I hope something like this still exists when I'm old enough to need it.

Thinking of people as they age and become lonely makes me sad. I'm so happy that Iris found a companion (Johanna), who I hope is a real friend.
One thing I appreciate about select other cultures is how much family means to them, resulting multi-generational environments. That's enriching for everyone. Sadly, in much of the UK and US (and the world over as the world becomes homogenized), this "cultural trait" may be lessening. Younger and older people (and those with challenges of some nature) deserve love and companionship. Sadly, outside of but related to this topic, I know there are many younger people who feel isolated and alone, too. It's all so sad.
Related question: Have you ever been to a "nursing home", "independent living facility" or the like? I've yet to visit one that isn't awful. Even the nice ones - which only the affluent can afford. This solution seems nice. I hope it works out and comparable programs come into being. I worry about my future and that of others.
