Actually the compass error can be calculated by spherical casine law, aka haversine. If you have the spherical casine law built in your calculator, things can be speed up to get the Az and thereafter the gyro error and so on. ABC tables base on 4 parts formula which is derived from casine law. They are basically the same. It is simply because the celestial sphere is just another perfect sphere like the Earth. (from the perspective of math)

Substitute the following figures into haversine formula: Lat A = Ship GPS latitude Long A = Ship GPS longitude Lat B = celestial body apparent declination Long B = - GHA of the celestial body * (minus GHA because GHA counts from west) 4. By the haversine formula, you can get the T.Brg & Zenith Distance of the celestial body * (Assuming the GPS position is accurate) 5. Compare the T.Brg & Gyro Brg to get the gyro error. For the correction of declation it is only applied when you going to calculate LOP sun. For the compass error it doesn't matter. Beside for the correction of the declination its only 0.1 or 0.0 so its small to carried out.

About the heading. I said from the video the heading is only example where you can get. Its not exactly the heading :) kindly watch again that part :) about the 180. 180 came from quadrant. 0 / 90 / 180 / 270 :)

Actually i would like to do that planet and moom buts its just the same calculation. The only difference is the gha of the planet you can get that on the left side of the nautical almanac together with star. Then the moon on the right side of the nautical almanac. Just the same as sun gha. All are same computation expect the star with additional SHA.
