Just getting into farming. Bought a d14 at an estate sale. Let me tell you the power director is friggin awesome. I tell the wife she married an Allis Chalmers man.
My dad and uncle bought a new D17 in the late 50’s to replace the AC HD 5,was a good tractor in the hill due to low center of gravity and adjustable wheel stance, three point hitch attachments also made it safe on steep hills.
I don’t recall any issues they had with the tractor, the power director was also handy in the hills, this tractor was well advanced over the competition.
I am confused. How could a wheeled tractor have any advantage over a crawler. That 2-71 Detroit is a legend. The only real problem with crawlers is wear on the undercarriage. Nothing can compare to the traction of a crawler.
Good day> Nice video. Boy when he was plowing sound of exhaust was same as WD-45. Our neighbor had WD, on 125 acres . That thing done everything, even had #60 com bine. Thanks for video.
Love these ol' AC videos, thanks for uploading! Got kinda fancy with the special effects there when they went from B/W to color...just like the movie Wizard of OZ. Of course the operator's controls were always "within easy reach" and they had a "comfortable" solid steel operator seat. And don't forget it's "just one easy step to the operator platform"....what they don't say is that step is about 24 inches! My dad bought a D17 (the D14's bigger brother) brand new in the early 1960's. That was a big tractor in those days.
doing a great job!! used allis chalmers all my life and my dad too my youngest son has 7045 and 8070 to wheel me and my oldest son collect we have 10 tractors c wc wd 4 wd45s d17 d d17 g and our newest family member 190 d snap coupler!!!!! also 17 snap coupler impls 90 combine 8 ac lawn mowers!!
Loved those old Allis-Chalmers! The farm I worked on as a kid had a D-17 that was rated at 63 hp. and it would run with a 4 or 5 bottom plow, and power any implement you hooked to it... hay baler, pull-behind combine, silage chopper, you-name-it!! I liked the shift-on-the-fly built-in 2 speed 'power-director', that was nice for pulling a loaded grain wagon on the road in 4th gear and not have to try to find the next (unsyncronized) gear in the main gearbox.😉 Kind of wish the WD series had those...
My uncle had 2 D-17's and the best they would do on a dyno was 53HP. We farmed heavy river gumbo soil that needed to be fall plowed to get it work down a nice seedbed in the spring. A 3 x 16" plow was the low side of second. The same tractor and same plow in spring in the hills was high side of third gear.
@@countrygent4 Hmm interesting... it may very well have been 53 hp. That was a LONG time ago... like 1967 or so. The tractor was a 1960 or '61 model, and we had a 4 bottom 16" plow that it would pretty much run with in 2nd gear in nice Pennsylvania topsoil. We also had a 5 bottom plow that we could use if the soil had been recently turned and didn't require full power to turn it. *EDIT* My mind does still work! Here's the specs, and they are rated at 63 hp. at the crank. With gearing losses, etc. they're only 52.7 at the belt pulley: www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/000/0/1/18-allis-chalmers-d17.html
Competition for the Fordson Major. This was a bit more sophisticated than the Fordson. No roll over protection, no cab, steel seat [did have good suspension system], obviously keeping cost down.
My granddad bought one new . Still all original , still gets used around the ranch from time to time . Just a great little tractor
Just picked up a D14 and this video helped me understand my new tractor, thanks again for uploading this video manual.
My favorite Allis is the D-21,it was way ahead of its time.
Just imagine if companies still had this philosophy in our throw away world!
Had a D 14 for years. Great tractor. Very easy on gas.
We have a WD45 1955, a model C 1949 and a model C 1945 . Thanks for the video.

We had a D14 for about a mouth when I was growing up nice tractor.
Happy New Year.
Scruffy 61 hello . Guess I'm fallowing you around tonite. Lol

Nice fleet of ACs you have..
I had a 1959D14 it was a good tractor I like the Allis Chalmers I'd buy one again good video thanks
Thanks for Sharing.
Another great vintage AC film... Happy New Year Buddy!!
Wish I had kept my D14. Great tractors
Ours is a fun little pasture mowing tractor with an 80r 7 ft. Sickle mower!
great video. Now I know how to adjust the front wheels. Use mine for rear snowblowing mainly. Wish I had a hydraulic loader for it.
The D14 was the first tractor I drove that had power steering. It was a neighbors tractor.
It's amazing how tractors have progressed in the last 60 years from the Allis Chalmbers D-4 to today's Case IH Quadtrac
.СССР 1957 году такой трактор и агрегаты не снились.
Great video thanks for uploading!

That is why my dad bought a Massey Ferguson diesel tractor that year.
On Amazon, those conversion 3 point hitches are over$1000

Where's the DEF tank? How often does it have to regen? 😅
Ha ha
Good tractor 🍾
I own a CA a smaller tractor, I'm very curious what did the D14 cost in 1957?
$2,900 (1960 )
I have one still runs good just need a little tlc
Espetáculo 👋👋👋👋 abraço forte
Nothing like reading from the teleprompter.
me and my dad own a 1939 aliis chalmers B model
Dont forget most important feature....its EMP proof...😃😃😃
I think an EMP could take out the ignition coil.
@@42lookc diesel...no coil....doubt it any ways...
@@mikemotor3103 they never made a diesel D-14...
The first D series I drove was a D17, so unfortunately the D14-15 was never impressive when the 17 set the standard
I drove a D 17 Gas once.. Nice driving tractor...
The fellow i drove the D 17 for was an AC man... He also had a 175 and 185...
My Grandfather was a MM dealer back in the day but he still had a WC and a WD 45 as well as a few MMs, Oliver's and Cockshutts...
@@RoadRunnergarage8570 interesting
@@RJ1999x the D-14 and D-17 were released at the same time in 1957.
