I'm ngl clive seems like a brawler version of noctis. He seems way more mixup heavy even if they play in the same range. Also, it would have been hilarious if they doubled down on the isekai situation, having clive wearing modern clothes and swinging like a pipe or bat but still having the magic and what not. But I guess thats what customization is for lol

This video seems to be asking the question: "Is a T8 character similar to a T7 character?" and so of course the answer is "no." It needs to ask, "Is Clive who Noctis would have been had he been in T8?" The answer to that question is a bit more complex, I think, than a flat "no."
A bit more complex but still also boils down to "no", especially after seeing how much effort the team put in to make Clive play like he does in his own game. Having played both final fantasy 16 and final fantasy 15, Clive and noctis played very differently in their games, and maybe the mid-range sword person might be an archetype that they share, put overall if the Dev team was still using the same philosophy they used for Clive this time around then it would be very different still

In a game where each character has 100+ moves there will be alot of similiarities anyway. You can take any 2 characters and they´re going to have some overlap, either in animation or properties, or both
Exactly, it always annoys me when they reveal a new character, has one move that is similar in animation to a move from an OG character that isn't added yet, and people be like "Does this mean *OG character* is not returning?" "Did they replace *OG character*?" "This character is clone of *OG character*" Tekken characters only have 4 limbs, there's only so many ways to make them move without looking weird, and similar archetypes will of course inevitably have similar animations.
My wish is just that Clive will bring more new players to Tekken 8. I love this game and I want as much people playing as possible. And btw Clive looks awesome imo
Here's hoping, I would be fine eother way for Clive or Tifa, Clive looks like a fun addition while I think Tifa would have trouble standing out amongst other female Tekken characters IMO. The constant T8 dooming and hate bandwagon is getting tiring at this point.

They wouldn't decide to announce a new playable character at the main TGA program if it wasn't profitable for them. Space at game awards is very expensive, and they announced a single dlc character. Not a huge expansion or entirely new game. Single character. Tekken must be still printing money imo.
From TT round 2 showcase: Clive's df1,2 isn't NC(hp dmg color disappeared after df1) and have ch guaranteed 3rd hit wall splat(hp color didn't disappeared between 2nd and 3rd hits) 2 from 3,2,Torgal is knd and NC, my guess is Torgal is gonna prevent you from doing wall combo(like Hei df3,1+2,1). Also, Clive orbital seems like Azu's u4. It's also faster/crushes lows for less frames than regular orbitals.
Noctis combos were what got me really watching tekken 7, they always looked cool and he looked great moving around and doing stuff in the game. Im feeling that clive's moves looks pretty good and cool as well and hoping he feels good to play too/
I'm a hardcore Final Fantasy fan who didn't enjoy FF16. But i'd be a mindless hater if i didn't aknowledge the CRAZY amount of work they put into Clive for T8. Really can't wait to try him in a fighting game context.

Many animations were changed from t7 to t8 on the same character. Many of Clive's moves looked to me at least inspired by those of Noctis', if not almost completely similar. Looking forward to try the guy out!

@Manley156 fundamentally, a lot of characters share similar moves, from animation to how it even works with the difference only being in frame data. All the Mishimas share similar moves, and that's because they all practice the same martial arts. Most final fantasy characters share similar moves because they come from a world where people largely use giant swords, elements(materia), and Eikons or Eidolons, depending on which you prefer. While he has similar moves, the disparoty between him Noctis is even more impressive than the difference between the Mishimas or at least just as good.

Secondly, the tekken cast share similarities across the board with the only difference between frame data and movement speed. Clive and Noctis while sharing similarities are clearly very different characters. In the tekken world the Mishimas are completely fine despite having same moveset. Clive and Noctis come from a world where people use giant swords and magic, of course there would be similarities.
It would make sense from a developer perspective to give noctis players a home with clive while also making him a unique character, though that seems fairly challenging. Time will tell!
yo Phi, i was going over the trailers myself and i was trying to pay attention to all the launchers, CH or otherwise. What I was looking for in particular was if any of them had the red spark that you would see from CH launchers and i did find some

Clive doesnt have something exactly like the facestab, but we did see in the gameplay trailer towards the end, he swings a spear that looks like a mid that was a counterhit launcher.
Tekken 8 really is just Tekken 7 with the budget it should've had. I'm no longer surprised, I just hope they start dealing with problems a bit quicker.
You mentioned it with the throw, but a bunch of Clive's moves look like they leave the opponent _way_ farther away than Noctis's moves did, so I do think his overall gameplan is gonna be a bit different

I can go either way, I generally don't go for the weapon characters but I don't think it's that far fetch when you have devil people and chainsaw Robots. I don't buy in that Tekken was always this hyper realistic serious fighter. I think it helps with character variety, though I agree I don't want too many weapon based fighters. I at least respect you more than the ones constantly dooming on the game acting like it's the death of Tekken.

Very likely to get a Capcom rep later on in Tekken 8's lifespan. The two companies are well tied and have long promoted one another. At the end of the day guest characters are largely there to bolster interest in current game offerings

@UtlawBroineI never played Noctis but I’m happy to see another character like this. I hate parries and weapon characters are really fun. I consider myself a Victor specialist recently despite not playing Tekken everyday. It was fun understanding his entire move set and slowly making counter plays using the utilities on hand. Also are Heat Smashes non-parry or is it just Victor’s punch parry not working on them? I haven’t kept up on the updates.
Remove counter hit launchers...I don't think that's right...I mean victor has a 1+2 and can CH launch. Kings B1 is a CH launch. Juns DF4 is a CH launch. Among other characters having that ability to do it. I don't mean this comment to sound rude at all, and I hope it doesn't (the context of online comments seem to come off that way). I think there's alot of CH launching normals in T8 where you can convert off quite a lot. Clive looks to be interesting, gonna be a match up nightmare in the beginning with a ton of labbing I'll have to do.

why i compare him with noctis is that both have swords and super powers. and that they dont really fit into the the Tekken universe. In Tekken theres demonic/holy powers and advanced tech but not that advanced… spoiler: Tekken 9 will have FF17 protagonist. i see a pattern here
No not really. Noctis was very unique in Tekken 7. Clive looks like a regular tekken character who uses a sword. Flashy magical FX doesn't change how vanilla Clive is.

@UtlawBroineI never played Noctis but I’m happy to see another character like this. I hate parries and weapon characters are really fun.
I consider myself a Victor specialist recently despite not playing Tekken everyday. It was fun understanding his entire move set and slowly making counter plays using the utilities on hand.
Also are Heat Smashes non-parry or is it just Victor’s punch parry not working on them? I haven’t kept up on the updates.

Remove counter hit launchers...I don't think that's right...I mean victor has a 1+2 and can CH launch. Kings B1 is a CH launch. Juns DF4 is a CH launch. Among other characters having that ability to do it.
I don't mean this comment to sound rude at all, and I hope it doesn't (the context of online comments seem to come off that way). I think there's alot of CH launching normals in T8 where you can convert off quite a lot.

I think a large degree of criticisms levied against him are stemming more from people not wanting more sword characters in the game which gets conflated with hating on Noctis by extension.

why i compare him with noctis is that both have swords and super powers. and that they dont really fit into the the Tekken universe. In Tekken theres demonic/holy powers and advanced tech but not that advanced… spoiler: Tekken 9 will have FF17 protagonist. i see a pattern here
No not really. Noctis was very unique in Tekken 7. Clive looks like a regular tekken character who uses a sword. Flashy magical FX doesn't change how vanilla Clive is.
