As a black man I've got to hand it to Dynasty. Rarely have I seen a black couple portrayed as being so classy, eloquent, refined, wealthy and successful as Dominique and Nick are in this scene and this was over 30 years ago.
I must agree with you. But it's a sign of the times more than "Dynasty" alone. At one time that "brand" engendered resentment among the demographic movies/tv were directed at. Today, the demographic is younger and more flexible in a moderate sense that days before when black people were only to be exhibited in "their places." I will cite this as a clarification of the words "moderate sense." The scene avoids the possibility that so classy a woman as Carroll might just attract the attention of a white guy of her status. In that sense, I felt that most of Carroll's presence was awkward, with that implied "restriction" built into her movement in that rarefied social world, a white one at that. So, yes, we've come along way. But not really. Haven't you noticed that that same world is even bolder with LGBT concerns?
Just goes to show that Aaron Spelling wasn't deterred by the colour of a person's skin. These black actors did an excellent job and he worked with them, not seeing colour.
This deserved its own spinoff!! Black Power at it’s best!!! Notice he wasn’t trying to get her into bed but asking for long term commitment! How did we get to modern day ratchetedness
What happened to our people from the 50s we was very classy. The 50s and the 60s we was very black. The 70s we was black and proud. In the 80s we was cool 90s we became ratchet!! lol🤔
Have you ever scene anyone this naturally flawless in demeanor, class, and beauty, and I do mean both of them. A well written scene for two classic top actors.
Aaron Spelling always showed diversity in his shows. That's why I supported them, even as a young girl, I recognized it from Charlie's Angels to 90210, he tried to bring people of color. Most importantly the content was good.
July 17th: Happy birthday Actress-Singer Dahann Carroll; Tony Award winner, NAACP Image Award; "Julia" "Dynasty" "Claudine" "Porgy & Bess" "Carmen Jones." Thank you and God bless. Thanks for the upload. Blessings
I am 60 and I grew up with this show and the idea of Black romance. I grew up watching the most handsome Black men on TV including Mr. Lawson, Sidney Poitier, Calvin Lockhart, Don Marshall, Greg Morris, Billy Dee, Fred Williamson, all of the J5, and lots of the boys in my school!! I don't see any romance for my young nieces - so sad.
My now husband took me to an animal shelter and proposed to me there not with a ring but by telling me to pick up any animal i wanted because he wanted us to raise it together after i graduated from vet school a few years after he did. We left engaged and with 17 cats and 11 dogs , and 10 years later we now run 4 animal shelters. Try to beat that proposal ! No money in the world can buy kindness and nothing screams of kindness and commitment more than looking after animals.

To those on here that say we (meaning black people) went from the class you see here to the ratchedness you see on TV nowadays-you’re absolutely right. The minstrel show never died, it just moved to “reality” television.
I loved Dominique! I just wish the show had done the character justice. Her storylines seemed detached from everything else going on. So much wasted potential there, but they sure paired her with some exciting romantic partners!

The restaurant is not a set - its a former department store turned restaurant in L.A - AND its the same restaurant location used in Pretty Woman if I´m not mistaken :-)
She has a very sophisticated walk down through the years I have a mimicked it as a man and I walk like a man but her walk tells you business and business only there is no pleasure if you will

Jay there was actually an episode where Dex expressed interest in Dominique. She felt the same way but didn't want to pursue it for some reason.

The furs, the private jet, the champagne, the rented out restaurant - so much 80's excess in just ONE scene!
It's more like 80s glamour.
Yes I too wore furs. But that was before i became vegetarian. Like fake furs and faux suéde.
Have you ever scene anyone this naturally flawless in demeanor, class, and beauty, and I do mean both of them. A well written scene for two classic top actors.
Lol. Dominique's nose was contoured for filth here. She was beat years before it was popular. Push through, contoured blush cheek.
