Imagine dropping that you hang out with Onision like that’s some kind of flex.
“Yeah I saw this movie like 7 times with my buddy Jeffery Dahmer, it’s so peak.”
It's such an odd way to bring it up, too. 'Well, I saw it because I was planning to see it with Onision. Then I saw it with Onision.' Was he disappointed that the first namedrop didn't get a reaction or something?

How did it feel to have a serial killer on the podcast?
Billy the Fridge is the latest in a long line of Spergtubers I've been introduced to via EFAP Highlights against my will.

"They'll explain why Nick Fury didn't call Captain Marvel in the future."
>It's been almost 6 years since her first film, and we still don't have an actual answer
Dude has to be like that one meme where some kid is waiting to prank his dad when he comes home.
That's why saying you have future movies to explain away any problems with the previous' plot is a bad take as you're going to get to the point where there's so much going on that it's very difficult to address that. It's why phase 4 and 5 are just fusterclucks as the writing was nowhere near as tight as it should be.
Just casually dropping Onision.
I did like, 8 double takes.

4. "Fury is omniscient because he is a super spy"
5. "Your standards are too high"
6. "Fury was too proud to call her"
7. "Post hoc rationalizations are good actually"
8. "The movie must be good because we're still talking about it"

Rags repeating "Thats bad" multiple times throughout, as though he was talking with a 5year old was far more amusing than it had anyright to be.
From a certain aspect, the dude wasnt wrong. He was justifying any blemishes with the old nerd view of, at least it got made. The problem is, i dont think he could even conceptually understand rags main problem. You dont have to write garbage. Its just as easy to spen 200 million making a comicbook movie that is decent versus that is written by idiots. They didnt need to be shit.
The guest was cracking me up. The way he goes "okay" when he gets called out for his dumb takes is endearing.
"Okay, I've let you speak, but didn't listen. Okay, okay, okay! Okay! Now let me rattle off some nonsense about the MCU's greater divine plan for how this all actually makes sense, okay? Okay."
You misspelled, "enraging."
"The beauty of storytelling is that you don't need to explain anything"
I see we read very different stories.
Sounds more like a description of propaganda than stories. Can't question, won't get answers.
Seeing some of the early comments, i tried to stay positive about the guest in hopes that maybe some people were just jumping down this dudes throat for no reason.
There was a reason.
7:50 It's weirdly fitting that someone who tried to namedrop Onision _twice_ went on to fail at reading the room so hard that he thought paraphrasing Peter Parker's dying words with the tone of a stereotypical schoolyard bully would help his defense of Captain Marvel.
7:33 "He doesn't want to rely on some space woman!" He knows she's human. He named his initiative after her callsign. But I guess instead of relying on a _human_ who happens to live in space, he preferred banking on powerhouses like a radioactive rage monster and a hard-drinking extradimensional demigod?
He makes it sound like Fury had some rivalry with Captain Marvel where he wanted to prove he didn't need her. None of this is in the story lol
I completely forgot Billy was once a guest on EFAP. You can trace a direct line from sixteen year old me watching The Amazing Atheist shit on feminists to me watching Jay shit on Dr. Who today. Internet friendships are weird man
Oh god, I forgot banana boy existed
Be less predictable then? I dunno what to tell you kid.
I hate the "conflict can't exist with good writing" argument, it makes it sound like no compelling story has ever had good writing.
Just because you personally are too stupid to come up with a compelling conflict that makes sense doesn't mean that it's literally impossible. That assumption is loaded with so much arrogance.
How is that even an argument to begin with? With some exceptions, every story has a conflict. I don't know about US schools, but back in high school in my country, we were even taught the types of conflict in literature, in English class. If we're going to look into LOTR, for example, there are a lot of conflicts, both internal and external, and it's one of the greatest pieces of literature in modern history.
@@lmahu6627
It implies that whoever said the quote believes one of two things, really:
Either that they believe that 'good writing' means that everyone has omniscience and is perfectly logical, meaning every possible conflict is solved before it starts
Or that they believe, more charitably, that 'good writing' means that every character is _reasonable_. As in, no character can be evil or insane, as both of those are deficiencies of reason.
I find it funny that wolf was so quiet during this convo
He probably muted and just started screaming in pain in between his quiet comments lol
22:55 - did he really just say he loves a little boy?
Wow, makes sense he's friends with Onision
I hate that the existence of Secret Invasion creates a non 0% chance that Nick Fury has been eaten by a shark
Video they're watching: "Avengers: Endgame will probably address Captain Marvel's whereabouts in the time between her solo film and the end of Infinity War."
Me, years later looking back: "Well yes but actually no."
*ONISION*
[Robin Williams voice] What year is it?
Captain Marvel was so bad it did to Onision what that vat of chemicals did to the Joker.
For the Colsin retcon thing - he returned in the Agents of SHIELD show originally and he played off his death as "Nah, I didn't actually die, I was just badly injured and got to go on holiday." and it's referenced often. But then over the course of the show, they have Colsin acting strange. His memories of his recovery vacation are falling apart. Turns out he did actually die - Fury had him brought back to life like Commander Shepard at the start of ME2. So it's not quite a retcon when he returned to the later movies.
Fury can resurrect the dead? This is better writing?
@@samuellund1377
I saw a few seasons of Agents of Shield:
It was better writing, certainly. The resurrection thing was implied/shown to be so horrific and grotesque that the only way to properly cope with it was to totally dissociate and try to wipe it from memory - which failed eventually, causing Coulson great trauma and distress. It was also, though I'm less sure on this, incredibly expensive treatment, which means it's not something you can just 'do'.
That said, I remember the writing falling a bit off at the later seasons.
@@samuellund1377 well I'm not arguing for writing quality, just clarifying it wasn't a retcon. The process as it was shown was horrific and the ethics of it were discussed in the show. iirc when it was finally revealed it showed that Colsin's memories were tampered with so what he thought was a vacation on a beach was instead him waking up in an operating room with a surgery robot jabbing hundreds of needles into his open head, trying to revive him.
@samuellund1377 we resuscitate lots of people daily. It's not absurd to think Fury would have access to better tech to do so since aliens have been invading the planet for centuries. On top of that, if we can buy that we can code and upload a conscience on a server (Zola) I think that biological resuscitation via alien blood isn't that far fetched either.
The goalpost-moving excuses is exactly why I cant have actual critical discussions about movies outside a friend group. Just say you like trash movies and don't expect quality as long as there are pretty, flashy colors on the screen and I'll just hand you some crayons to chew on instead of engaging in the discussion.
I'm not joking when I say that when I heard the guy say "It wasn't that bad yet" as to why Nick Fury didn't call CM in AoU, I was about to shout "IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD", but for the sake of keeping mostly quiet, I just broke into song and said "It's the end of the world as we know it"
Billy the Massive.
the captain Marvel thing could have been so easy. when they ask "why didnt you ever show up before ?" they could have let her say "i did !" and then Show some flashbacks were she got there after the fact and had a talk with fury every time. done. Problem solved.
No offense that's awful. That's a retcon that adds nothing. There is no fixing the pager thing.
@pascalsimioli6777 im not defending it. im just trying to explain it away. Im saying that she was always to late to save anyone. imagine the world would have been destroyed, she arrived late.....and fury punches her, asking her why she is always to late. it could have been a thing for her character.....but instead, we got the dumb Pager with nothing of substance. captain plank stays captain plank.
Wait Captain Marvel had fans?
Jesus Christ, the cope. There's literally no way Fury could have been aware of the scope of the problem to say it was a greater crisis than any prior where he didn't call her. He wasn't in-contact with the heroes in the current crisis to know what Thanos was doing.
it's really interesting that at a certain point the only defense some people will have for something that is bad is it's just a stupid comic book movie stop saying its bad.
Wait, doomer has a brother who smokes?
"...Ya know, Nick Fury had a hunch..."
Holy Christ, who is this guy and how much stock does he own in Disney? Toxic copium.

"even kevin feige isn't immune to criticism"
that aged magnificently
The amount of copium that comes from that massive is hilarious
I don't understand. Is this guy, whoever he is, a critic? Because once you start saying things like "It's bad but that's ok because it's a movie/comic book movie," then you really should be shown the door. There's no conversation to be had at that point. He's admitted that it's bad, but it might get good later. He's essentially turned media into a cult. It doesn't matter what they do, what they say, or how little sense it makes. It all must be for something.
Knowing how the media landscape would devolve after these movies, seeing this kind of person is like watching ground zero happening on video. These kinds of complacent, standardless people taking control and driving everything into the dirt.
He used to be a meme back in the wild west days of TH-cam. I forgot he existed to be honest.
If only I had found EFAP back when I decided I hated Watch Mojo and unsubscribed from them.
Billy the Fridge!
the lore behind why dude saw it 4 times is worth a like, just extra content
"Nick formed the Avengers so he wouldn't need to call Danvers." - Billy (paraphrased)
But why would he need to do that? Danvers is his friend. Even when she's still helping the Skrulls with finding their new home, she also has a responsibility to Earth because it's her home planet, and her movie showed that she has powers that surpasses Thor's (because the studio made it that way for some reason) that she can handle space travel, so why does Nick even need to form the Avengers?
That's not even touching on the fact that the first lineup for the Avengers were people who were recruited because their combined abilities might save the world from large threats, but there's still a possibility for failure. Why would you take that risk when you have a living, multitasking nuke as a friend and ally all this time?
Its always weird to see someone say "well it worked out, so its all fine." Because if it didn't luckily work out, that character would have seemed like a giant idiot. If a worldwide threat isn't enough, what is? Because Marvel coming in didn't help anyone when people are being dusted. It was WAY too late at that point.
What if she had been one of the ones snapped?
"What'd you do yesterday?"
"Ah, went to the theatre and watched Captain Marvel with Onision."
".....What is your life, and why do you keep living it?"
Add this to the list of reasons why the MCU should have ended with Infinity War
"Oh but Endgame-"
"Shaddap!"

I like how you can easily identify a person's nervous tics or other such habits when they're being countered by the EFAP crew and they don't have a response, case in point, this guy saying "Okay" in a confused tone of voice multiple times before getting back on track and talking like normal.
I remember this one, the guy was reaching so hard he probably dislocated his shoulder 😅😅😅

Wow. This is literally Major Lee. SLICE AND DICE!
Captain Marvel 4 times in the theater. Who is this guy?
7:00 cot marvel isn't some space woman, she's human as well...
Does he not realize that audience and characters have different information?
I think the easiest fix would’ve been to have a line that he did try before. The problem is that in the Marvels they’ve now made it cannon that captain marvel hadn’t been on earth since the first movie. 🙄
I'm surprised they didnt go harder on the whole "its just a comic book/popcorn movie" argument. It's such a cop out argument that doesnt stack up.
Fringey would have had an aneurysm
Woah, wait, ONISION?
The guy who monetized/livestreamed his GF's *actual* breakdown?
And that's not even in the top 10 most gross things he's done
Wonder Woman wasn't great, but it was way better than Captain Marvel.
Ignoring the fact that a pager sends a signal out into space - we can pretend it uses earth technology, just routed through an antenna array - any signal shot into space will take days, weeks, or years, because of the limitation of light speed.
It takes minutes if not hours to get a signal, traveling a light speed to reach the outer planets of the solar system .
Holy shit you can just hear the lack of any argument from this guest when he tries to make any to defend Marvel. Like his beginning position is that Marvel is in the right, he doesn't even first assess the information, excuses first, consideration later.
Edit: Oh god it keeps getting worse, this guy genuinely is inexperienced in thinking critically. It's an insult to story telling every time he appeals to it, not knowing jack shit what he's talking about.
Damn, I forgot about Billy the Fridge. Is he still alive? If Boogie is, he must be.
People covered by EFAP prove that anybody can become a successful film critic.
Billy proves that anybody can become a guest on EFAP.
22:17 if-if-if-if-if
God I love Billy. He's peak consoomer mentality.
What he wants to say is "I don't actually care about the quality of this film because I regard this genre as low-cinema, and therefore it only needs to meet or exceed the standards I've set for movies I don't invest deeply into, that is my stance regardless of the quality of the film or how much you hold it to a higher standard, the film served its purpose as something to keep me, personally, entertained, and that is all I expected it to do." and then he'd be fine. From there he might even play a proper devil's advocate and be like "Does the failure of something to meet your standards for film mean it cant be entertaining?" and "Is not the ultimate goal of these movies to entertain, regardless of it it's what we'd call 'good film'?" and "We have examples of incredibly stupid shit in all the marvel films, how is the beeper any more damaging than Mandarin being an actor, the miraculous revival of Loki and positioning him as the leader of Asgard which goes nowhere?" there's a *leginimate* conversation to be had about these films, and what standards we set and hold going into them, and if those are things we should temper given the nature of the genre -- would you go into an Adam Sandler comedy expecting Shakespearian prose? If you did, would your disapointment be fair criticism? There's a *lot* to talk about in that regard.
But, that's what someone who cares about the discussion and quality of film does. Not what a consoomer does. A consoomer goes "ah yeah i saw it like four times lol i wanted to go see it with a friend once and they bailed so we had to reschedule and then had a couple movie dates who wanted to see it so i saw it two more times with them lol yeah it was ok lol i liked the part where there was a shiny and a kaboom lol i dont know why you care so much its just popcorn movie lol I saw product and now im excited to see next product".
As far as I'm concerned, MCU Captain Marvel's #1 fan, Onision's friend, is up there as probably one of the Top 5 most insufferable guests in EFAP history
17:24 Nick Fury could not have been certain of success in New York or Sokovia

Why does he sound like a deflating balloon
Regarding the topic I think the real problem is this: Captain Marvel is too powerful and now you have a little device to call said hero in case of dire emergency. She is literally a deus ex machina.
How CAN any movie have stakes when you have her on speed dial? Not to mention if she consistently is unable to come when there’s a crisis that also would be frustrating.
Either make it so she can’t go through space that fast or get rid of the device.
Didn’t it take her 3-4 weeks to get to Earth after the snap. Wouldn’t Fury know how far away she is from a magic offscreen conversation sure but…I don’t think Fury had a 3 week lead on those other crises
Wolf in the middle.
Stop saying "okay", that's not an argument to anything.
Am I missing the obvious, or is asking “why didn’t fury use the pager sooner?“ very silly; because it was not written into the story, yet.
It’s essentially asking them to come up with an excuse that works backwards, story wise.
It’s not elaborating on preplanned overarching story, something that was going on in the background, and/or something that was cut from one of the films .
Well, the whole point is that adding it in later the way they did has consequences. You can't just decide to add something into the past of the story and expect people to take it seriously or believe in the stakes.
They wouldnt need to justify something that wasnt there if they didnt say there was something that wasnt there.
TLDR: Its silly it was added into the story in the first place, making the question very valid
Do not take Billy seriously. He is the living embodiment of kayfabe.
I do not know who the title is referring to and that may be intentional.
