I’m 26 and don’t have plans to foster or even have children, but I watch your channel because you have such a pleasant, calm demeanour and seem really lovely and compassionate. I’m glad that there are people like you out there looking after vulnerable children in crisis :)
I don’t know why the heck it brought me almost to tears when you said you specifically pick out canned fruit because it’s a consistent taste every time, you are so extremely thoughtful. You are a saint in my eyes.
“Safe” foods are such a good idea! I never would have thought of that. But for a child who had just been uprooted from everything they know, having familiar food has to provide a little bit of comfort! Even if they don’t consciously realize it. Things like familiar snacks, favorite tv shoes, etc might help them to feel a little more grounded. God bless you and the work you’re doing!
@@foster.parenting i felt so responsible that i bought a fire extinguisher for my home but i totally didnt know it has to be charged! Yikes lol gonna look into that to see how thank you!
I was thinking that too - how much is required of foster parents. It makes sense. You’re essentially having to make up for a lot of the gaps the kid experiences and guarantee safety and preparedness. You’re an angel Laura. Truly inspiring how kind and empathetic you are. Your content is so informative.
It was initially as I was arranging my home, but now it is easy to maintain. I am actually glad everything is safe for kids - I never have to worry when new kids come in or even have friends' kids over. Everything is child proof.
Aside from being safer for the foster children, I can imagine that it also takes away a lot of the visual clutter that might overwhelm someone coming from a stressful situation.
@@foster.parenting Laura for children who are old enough to understand and follow directions completely do you show them how to use the fire extinguisher in case you like ran out of the house for a second or ran to the bathroom really quickly they would know what to do?
Is it ok to have pets? I have 2 dogs and 2 bunnies. Is it ok for foster child’s bedroom to be downstairs if my room and bio kid’s room are upstairs? Or do we all have to have bedrooms on the same floor? Your videos are awesome! ❤
I believe it's the foster parent's job to honor their religion, make space for it in their home, arrange to attend services, and honor dietary restrictions.
Sounds like honoring the child's religion, if any, is a no-brainer, but if the child comes from an atheist or just non religious family, and you practice a religion in your family, obviously you wouldn't be trying to convert the kid or anything, but there are some biological parents who might kind of have a fit about their kid being exposed to religion in any form, even though you aren't involving the kid in practicing your faith. And, if your family attends services, obviously you can't just leave the kid alone, so do you have to have a Sunday morning sitter on call gor those times?
No, emergency water is for when there's... an emergency. Like if there's a hurricane or something so the tap water is either unavailable or not safe to drink for a while, that way they have plenty of drinking water (which is important for babies who are drinking formula especially). You also need to have some water on-hand in case a natural disaster stops the plumbing so you can still flush the toilet (if the plumbing isn't working, the toilet tank won't fill up, and there's literally no way to flush the toilet). I don't know where she lives so I don't know what natural disasters they'd specifically be in danger of, but basically every natural disaster brings the potential to keep people being without food or water for some time, so having all that bottled water on hand is a good idea.
It's kind of insane that a foster parent who might only have a kid with them for a week has to have all this stuff, but nobody checks on the home of bio parents when you go home with your new baby!

Our first sibling group was from Africa! All the "safe foods" I had for them, they didn't like! Quickly had to learn some new recipes.🤓
I don't recognize any of those foods she showed. I grew up in Africa and 2.my mom was kind of crunchy

Ty for reminding me to check my fire extinguisher! It's something I overlook. I think I need to get myself a sign so I think of it more often!
Perhaps it could be part of your annual smoke alarm check routine?
Yeah they definitely need to be replaced or recharged every few years!

I feel like I could never achieve this level of order and organization. Something to srive for. I'd love to foster some day.
Everyone's homes are set up differently! The most important thing is safety. Organization systems can be different :)

Would love to hear about your experience as a foster carer during Covid lockdown
Just found your channel today and SO happy I did. I've been thinking about fostering myself and this is so helpful and informative. Thank you! 💜
Hmm. Love what you do. But that's a pretty intimidating one. Gives the impression of having to be 110% perfect.
I was intimidated at first. Now it is second nature - plus I like having the piece of mind that everything is safe.
@@foster.parenting 👍
I feel like it's very practical - she def didn't make it the Pinterest level aesthetic that all the vloggers do when doing house tours. 😂
Is it overwhelming having to do all this to foster?

I have a question, if you have a religion and the kid you foster doesn't, what would you do

Why do they require water? Is it for burns?

I’m 13, when I grow up, I want to foster in my 30s-50s and I’ve wanted to do it for years now, I’ve considered adoption since I was 8
