I just saw them this past Sunday in Lexington, Kentucky at the Manchester Music Hall. They played this ! It was amazing ! They were phenomenal as usual !!!! CHEERS FROM LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY !!!!
Yeah and Hadid you read my post about them not being part of the whole "everyone write a hit song about 9/11 and make quick buck"??? These guys are so sensitive about the whole matter. If you never heard of 9/11, you'd wonder forever what they're singing about.
Vern-- 6:10 - 6:38 puts to music EXACTLY what it felt like being in Manhattan on 9/11. My friend SK (I photographed you in her loft 4 blocks north of the north tower) photographed the birds flying down to the ground when the towers were burning. It wasn't until after she got the film developed the next day that she realized they weren't birds. 😢 Those images she took on her fire escape have haunted me for years; Flying is the only song I've heard that speaks to my emotions re: 9/11 itself and the what I saw when volunteering at Ground Zero and photographing it for archival purposes. It's really no wonder this is the song that is helping me with my emotions now. I love you, my friend. Thank you Corey, Will, Doug, and V for this beautiful, powerful tribute to those we lost, and to everything we all lost that day. ❤
What a stunning performace by all band and Corney first. it could not describe better the sense of tragedy, desperation and sadness happening. Musically they are also on another planet
I do think th-cam.com/video/uvfyvWTBVAE/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=MrKafaley is a better version. The solo is less repetitive and stops exactly when it should, and the ending is really haunting with Vernon's backwards loop. I always feel disappointed in the studio version not carrying on.
I saw them play this tonight, it really was something else on the 20th anniversary of that day, almost cried. Such an amazing band, they out on an incredible show as always. ❤️
Thanks for posting this video ! So many years ago I became a dedicated fan as I watched you guys perform on SNL and have enjoyed your amazing intensity since then. This is the life is one of my personal favorites and Flying is right up there with it.
This song have lived in my head rent free for years. I heared it a lot when I was in high school, then suddenly I couldn't find it anywhere.....but I couldn't forget. Everytime I was singling this in my head I felt something was missing. Today at age of 36 it came back to me with sweet memories of youth & promise of the future, eventhough we all know what this song is about. It feels so good.
Mannyr 2424 you can shake your head all you want - I know they’ve had other successful songs - but in 30+ years I’ve personally only EVER heard cult of personality on the radio. It’s a reflection of radio sucking, not anything bad about them.
Thanks for posting this performance, Vernon. This composition is so good it deserves an 8 minute version! It's inspired. So much unresolvable pain. Incredible performance from an incredible band of artists.
Well SAID, Don Resigno. I just am in AWE of this performance. Living Colour taught me how to play drums, guitar, bass and sing at a very early age. and they are STILL ROCKING like they were in 1986
Just heard this for the first time when I woke this morning. Make that two songs by Living Colour that bring me to tears (Open Letter to a Landlord, being the first).
As tragic and sad as this song is, it also captures a strange sense of morbid and radical acceptance of one’s fate. I might even argue that it celebrates the jumper and his coworker for taking their inevitable death into their own hands in a proactive way rather than staying to burn in the tower.
A million famous artists jumped on the "lets cash in on 9/11" songwriting (Alan Jackson) . Insulting. THESE GUYS have done the most sensitively beautiful tribute,. To the point where you wouldnt even know what its about unless you knew first.
The most haunting song ever. 911 was bad enough but the thought of the 'flying' people is more than I can bare. Also, the fact that this government planned and carried out the events on that day. They are truly capable of anything.
I keep going back and forth on who to blame... I keep remembering that bit about Bush telling that intel guy that he "covered his ass" when he talked about Bin Laden... I don't believe the Alex Jones types anymore... I just nickname the whole thing "The Unthinkable"... and if any American did know anything... I hope they get what they deserve in this life and the next...
What a powerful song. What a tragic subject. Delivered beautifully by these treasures of the music world. These guys never disappoint.
The saddest song I have ever heard. Tears for those who jumped that day

CHEERS FROM LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY !!!!
Amazing tribute to the brave souls taken on 9/11

One of the best bands EVER.
Criminally underrated band
Absolutely ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Lol very statistically debatable

Living Colour have always been excellent. For this song alone, they deserve a prize.
Holy shit... that solo 🤯

Incredible band. Every time I get the pleasure of seeing them in England is one of the best rock/music moments of my life

today is 9-11, and this is the ONLY song I care to listen to, simply because it's the best!
Put it in my calendar to remember to listen to it every year
I also always pair it with Tori Amos - I Can't See New York.
I have been a fan of Living Colour since Vivid and I have only just found out what this song is about. Now I'm kind of overwhelmed by emotion.
Living Colour, making you feel it.

Perfectly stated. Thank you.
gorgeous....tragically gorgeous.
So much emotion in this version compared to the studio recording. You can feel the weight of the tragedy that this song is about here.
A CRIME this ain't getting played as often as "Cult..." On any rock formatted radio is it not????
Cult of personality is the only song by them I’ve EVER heard on the radio.
@@amostlyreasonableguy smh, they have several radio hits. Type, open letter to a landlord, Elvis is dead, leave it alone, glamour boys

@@Parrish_Muhoberac Same here. Their impact on music, musicians, social issues, etc. is undeniable.

Wow his voice kind of reminds me of "Seal" powerful😍
This was the song that made me love with this band!
Vernon= Beast 👏🏾🔥🤘🏾✊🏾
I jumped out of the window to get to the parking lot.
I'm writing this little song on my way down.
Wonderful and... very very sad
I don't know how to feel it
But musically speaking ... Great song
I love this song
Saw these guys at Trenton State College in January 1988. They opened for Fishbone. Criminally underrated band. Both of them.
I love it.
Love it! :-) :-) :-)
Yes, gorgeous
sooo good!
Only just found this track ❤️🙏🏻 new fave band ❤️🙏🏻💋

Baloney. Your "fact" is fiction.
