I love the climactic "This is the life" slowdown near the end. Corey is still an awesome singer, and Vernon, Doug and Will are still awesome musicians, as always.
When some people say that Living Colour were ahead of their time, they must if been talking about this song. So freaking dope. I can listen to it over and over 💥💥💥
I was working in a music store when Time’s Up and I played it over & over. Then came home and played it over & over. This is my favorite song off an album of awesome songs. Could never ever play his leads but learned the intro and verse/chorus on guitar.
During that time, big Jim Kelly, dimebag, Kim thyall, morello and Vernon had the biggest impact on my playing, but same way, could only ever barely scratch the surface with Reids playing...
One of my favorite bands all time. I was 14/15 years old when it came out and this album blew my mind(still does). This song really reminds me that we each have that inner power to change our own worlds for the better.
Even though the audio quality is not the greatest, and neither is the camerawork, THIS has not only been one of my favourite songs EVER, and this PERFORMANCE is the GREATEST one of all. Thank you, Living Colour, for being an inspiration for me since I was in grade school.
This is one of my favorite, if not THE favorite song by them. I saw them play at a City Whinery in 216 but they didn't play this ne. I missed out. Still a great show, and they were super nice to hang out later and chill.
Beautiful. Monstrous. Astounding, and yes, one of the best LC songs of all time. I'm gonna defend the crowd here; this looks like the kind of venue where everyone has to sit down at a bunch of very crowded and closely-spaced tables. Tell me how the hell are you gonna mosh and go nuts in a place like that? I think that audience FULLY appreciated what they were seeing; why else would they be there in the first place?
This Song makes me,even to this Day, Nostalgic, theres something embedded in it so deeply that Only those that are on a Quest to Find inner Enlightenment can truly identify with it upon first contact.
I saw them LAST NIGHT at the City Winery in Nashville!!! My first time seeing them after being a fan for 30 years!!!! But they didn't play this!! Oh well... It was still awesome and I got Will Calhoun's autograph!!!
I'm here again and again.. All time favourite band, song, performance. When Corey doesn't believe Vernon guitar playing after so many years.. :) I wish they going to come Europe again.
"This Is The Life" In another life You might have been a genius In another life You might have been a star In another life Your face might have been perfect In another life You'd drive a better car In another life All your jokes are funny In another life Your heart is free from fear In another life You make a lot of money In this other life Everything is clear In another life You're always the hero In another life You always win the game In another life No one ever cheats you In another life You never have to change In another life Your friends never desert you In another life You never have to cry In another life No one ever hurts you In this other life Your loved-ones never die But this is the life you have This is the life you have This is the life you have This is the life In another life You're always the victim In another life You're always the thief In another life You are always lonely In this other life There is no relief In your real life Treat it like it's special In your real life Try to be more kind In your real life Think of those that love you In this real life Try to be less blind
I've always thought the lyrics to this song were great. Is there any way someone could post them onto this? It's a very creative and touching song that a lot of people somehow missed. I played this song for my friends (studio CD) & since I didn't tell them, none could even guess the name of the band. This band deserves a lot more attention, in my opinion.
Oh the wind whistles down The cold dark street tonight And the people they were dancing To the music vibe And the boys chase the girls, with curls in their hair While the shocked too many sit way over there And the songs get louder each one better than before And you singing the song thinking this is the life And you wake up in the morning and your head feels twice the size Where you gonna go, where you gonna go, where you gonna sleep tonight? And you singing the song thinking this is the life And you wake up in the morning and your head feels twice the size Where you gonna go, where you gonna go, where you gonna sleep tonight? Where you gonna sleep tonight So you're heading down the road in your taxi for 4 And you're waiting outside jimmy's front door But nobody's in and nobody's home till 4 So you're sitting there with nothing to do Talking about Robert Ragger and his 1 leg crew And where you gonna go, where you gonna sleep tonight? And you singing the song thinking this is the life And you wake up in the morning and your head feels twice the size Where you gonna go, where you gonna go, where you gonna sleep tonight? And you singing the song thinking this is the life And you wake up in the morning and your head feels twice the size Where you gonna go, where you gonna go, where you gonna sleep tonight? I saw them at the City Winery in Nashville but they didn’t play this. It’s kind of weird actually. Right in the middle of their set, Vernon, Corey, and Doug all huddled up in the middle of the stage and called an audible, to use a football term, and that’s when Will Calhoun started his drum solo! I ended up with a copy of the set list and they skipped a few songs. I think they had some extra songs on the list or something. They would’ve never had enough time to play everything on there. I got to meet all four of them after the show but I didn’t ask any of them what the deal was. I purchased one of Will’s cds called Celebrating Elvin Jones and I had him sign it. To this day I still have no idea what it says! lol... It’s a great cd though and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting one of my favorite bands and favorite drummers.
Read the lyrics to this song a few times a year, you will regain your appreciation for life and what you have and the fact that this is an amazing song by a great band! Also how is Vernon Reid not in the top of great guitarist polls??????????
Después de los conflictos raciales este 2020, está canción es mil veces más relevante ahora que cuando fue creada ! La prueba de una banda y unos músicos que trascienden su época y su cultura, para ser universales !
This is one of my favorite songs of the ‘80s. I love this band at a deep emotional level. This performance of this song just sucks. Corey rake your ducking hands out of your pockets. The the fuck is wrong with you. Sad to see this performance.
Although there are many; this is the greatest,....GREATEST Living Colour song ever!
yup...itis
would put Ology / Fight The Fight, right next to it!!
I could not have said it better! This is THE jam! Thanks for the post!
I COULD NOT agree more!!! And What a performance,.... im stunned
U know WHAT????!!!!
I don't think I can disagree with you!
I love the climactic "This is the life" slowdown near the end. Corey is still an awesome singer, and Vernon, Doug and Will are still awesome musicians, as always.
Best LC song of all time. It distilled all that was great about them.

Yeah, no one could play his leads, LOL.

Damn. If I could give this 10 million likes I would. Thanks for uploading.
Missed this but 45 minutes..on my way home from work...dam...
The live version adds so much more than the recorded.

My face melted listening to Vernon’s solo.

The best track off of Times Up..the mood, the tempo, the message. Excellence.
I saw them LAST NIGHT at the City Winery in Nashville!!! My first time seeing them after being a fan for 30 years!!!! But they didn't play this!! Oh well... It was still awesome and I got Will Calhoun's autograph!!!
Vernon is one of the best and greatest guitarists
Willem Kraaij Totally agree !!
yup. Fret Burnin Vernon
Yes he is!
Greatest and most unique guitar player on earth. I learned everything from this guy.
Hell Yeah NO DOUBT 👍
I'm here again and again.. All time favourite band, song, performance. When Corey doesn't believe Vernon guitar playing after so many years.. :) I wish they going to come Europe again.

Love you, Living Colour !!
P.S. Vernon, your solo is simply AWESOME !!

Well , always is good to travel in the sound of Living Colour.
Wow they sound so good on this!
Just love it
It's funny how a song from 1990 can be a guiding point for situations in 2020. The lyrics say everything!! Now the rest is up to us!!

Absolutely awesome always! Fantastic live performance-what's old is new again! :)
Meraviglioso 💥💥💥💥💥
Great performance. Corey what is with the farmer gear?
Bluesman in older age.
Epic!
Pure MAGIC!
So great!
I straight up mark out when those heavy toms come in @ 7:48.
Sonic Boom Welds Majestic.... He is second only to Bonham
6:30 so much
The bedt
Ahmad Arbury, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, This is the Life.
These guys were great showman, and players: What happened to your energy, Fellows?
I love this song, but the noodling at the beginning seems ironic to me. Treat it like it's special, indeed.
I dont know why the band didn't start moving like they can until the last.
6:46-6:49 - A little "Machine Gun" influence.
solo over groove.....
what a f. song, what a f. solo, meaningful lyrics. What a f. band!
lamest crowd ever.....#cityyuppies
It is a winery!

This composition needs more attention from all YT music channels now. WTf edit: I know @tinydesk
