In the last 4 years I've bought 2 new bikes and the biggest disappointment each time was the appalling standard of the servicing undertaken. Needless to say I didn't have any choice for warranty purposes other than to let them complete the first service each time. Whenever I see a bike advertised with a FSH, I simply dismiss it as irrelevant. Never trust a dealer to do anything properly. Always do it yourself and that way, you can be sure it's been done correctly.

I knew an honest used car dealer back in the day. When my father bought a car from him, he told my dad to come back if there was anything wrong with it. A few weeks later the abs system failed, and the dealer changed two calipers and some modules. He also changed all the fluids, filters and made sure everything was working before selling the cars. It took him about a week to prepare a car for a new customer. It’s not like that any longer…
When it comes to bikes, I just buy old ones cheap and fix them myself.

Totally agree mate, I've carried out all the work on my bikes since first owning one over 40 years ago, bike dealers are like most buiseneses these days, they just want to make loads of money from people and do as little as possible for it, the only spanners in the workshop are the staff most of the time, I wouldn't trust em with a mechano set, Do it your self, it's easy these days with youtube

Great video mate and thanks for the tips 👍 I’ve had motorcycles for 40 years and one thing I’ve learned is that you can never really trust a motorbike mechanic to do a thorough job, after all they’re not the ones who are going to ride it and will cut time and costs as best they can, Far and few between good ones. I do 99% of repairs and servicing to my bikes as I am the one who will be riding it and it’s my safety on the line. There’s nothing like the peace of mind whilst riding at speed knowing that those bolts you’ve tightened to spec are spot on because you did it yourself. Happy and safe travels mate. 👍👍

I notice your cam chain tensioner has been quick-fixed. Surprised that it needed that after only 8000 miles or so. Same with my 2003, got the superseding/upgraded part waiting to be fitted.

It was already done when I got the bike, I’m presuming by a previous owner.

Is the upgrade longer or stronger spring?

I just did the fork seals on my TDM. The retaining ring is a pain on the older bikes. I think they changed the design on the 900s. I like your taste in bikes btw 🤙 th-cam.com/video/Lg6XW1ktMrU/w-d-xo.html

The dealers are no better than any other garage anymore, I took my zx9 to marriott motorcycles in Birkenhead years ago now, forks went in with 13 clicks of rebound adjustment, cut a long story short the bike came out with 9 clicks on one and 16 on the other, after going to another garage because I wasn't happy they'd also had the air gap well off making the forks feel overly soft, twats.

I saw a news story about Marriott service department being set on fire, Maybe the customers we’re trying to tell them something! 😀
