Nice bike mate. Have you heard of the airbox modification for these? It basically stops the harshness of the throttle when under 3000rpm. There are a few ways to do it, but the most effective way, i've found, is to disconnect the number 8 wire from the ECU. Details of how to do it can be found on the Carpe-tdm website. When I bought mine, I asked the seller if he had done the mod and he insisted that he'd done it. On the test ride it was jumping like a kangaroo and I wasn't happy with it. I put it down to me having come off a very smooth four cylinder bike and I would probably get used to it. The next day, I took off the said wire and the difference was night and day. Totally different bike. Hope you get the problem sorted.
The bike is good mate, one of the best crossover..comfortable, reliable, comfortable in single and also for two, good quality and timeless.. You need a windscreen protection. For the problem about 2000rpm, you'll get used to it .. it's not that annoying.
I've just bought one, and test rode it, 2003 900. Yet to ride a distance. I had a kawasaki gpz500s. I know its a snaller engine but being a parnell twin, that never liked running below 3000rpm too. Also I used open pipes and that didn't run well. I think both bikes need back pressure to run. Must be a twin thing.
Bike shouldn't stall due to open non baffled exhaust. Try cleaning the throttle bodies... mine idled better after a clean and the cold start mechanism was seized so i sorted that while there.

Yes your right great bike mate , but sadly I’ve sold now and bought the Tracer 900 gt and I’m not going to modify it .
