Needs testing when it's hot. That's when the insulation starts to fail and gives you problems.

You're probably right there mate. I should have left it running longer with hindsight.

Oh well Nat thats the state of the stator,i couldnt help but notice your chain needs some oil but im sure you know that anyway(as if you didnt have enough to do) 👍🤔👍

That's the sort of fault I've always hated - there's definitely something wrong, but all the tests are ok. Is it possible there was a bad connection between the two halves of the 3-pin connector plug where you did your stator tests?

Quite possibly mate. We will soon see when the replacement goes in!

Can a burnt stator burn out a rectifier ?

I will have to see when the new stator arrives.

Stators can fail when they get hot. If engine is not at normal operating temp this could explain erratic readings. There are places you can send them to for testing

Had it happen to mine too.
Not too difficult to replace and off you are again :)

When you're using a multi-meter, a set of leads with crocodile clips is a useful accessory, because they let you use it hands free. I've also made up leads with different pins to fit in various connector plugs.

    Technical term is F.U.B.A.R 😅
It's only because I'm lazy I said last time "whip the cover off" ...
I'd rather spend £5 on a gasket and know its 2 minutes, what 50 minutes with a multi meter may or may not tell me .

You're totally right but wanted to learn how to test it. I am still not sure that I know how to though!

That’s Electrosport stator fitted in there ! It delivers poor 12V at idle and a good 40V at 4000 rpm. Your battery won’t be charging at idle and in city traffic

This one delivers very little at any rev range! Thanks mate.

That's well on it's way to being a properly burnt out stator, tests fine in the garage when cold but has intermittent output fails with one or more of the coils shorting to ground as it warms up out on the road.

@@NatsNackersYard We saw you test resistance between each stator wire and earth (to check for short to earth), and ac voltage output on each pair at 5k rpm, but we didn't see you test resistance between each ac pair (to check for break in windings). Did you do that off camera?
I would suggest having a closer look at both connector plugs (3-pin yellow and 2-pin red/green) to the regulator/rectifier, checking for signs of any arcing, or loose pin to pin connections. A loose connection on either the ac or dc side would account for the intermittent on/off charging output.
