    I agree 100% From a game play and pure fun standpoint the game is a solid 8, and one of my top three dungeon crawl games from 2023. But... the legacy elements are handled weirdly with the stickers and the narrative story is super short. I really like it though so hopefully it gets an expansion in the future that can give more story chapters and a better method of handling the legacy elements of the campaign. Fingers crossed.

    I very much enjoy the game and your biggest critique was mine as well. I actually spent hours turning the whole set of stickers, camp cards, scenario conclusions, etc into laminated cards with sorting labels to help organize them back into the scenarios they are introduced in. It was a real chore. That said, I do love the game and with the sticker to card conversion, it’s now very replay-able. I put a guide on BGG on how I did that, for anyone interested. But yes, I shouldn’t have needed to do it. Poor design decision for sure.

    I think the bigger point than the destructible nature, is that it's a once and done, other than the randomness pass/fail of dice rolling which isn't even changing the story. This game needs a TON of expansions to make it worth it to purchase. Thank you!

    Good video with some great points! I painted all the minis and my wife and I are playing through Arkeis right now. We both really enjoy it, and we decided to not remove the stickers but instead write down which ones we got. Fantastic, fun game with awesome minis and theme, but the stickers were just a bad idea.

    Along with Camillia's statement where you sometimes feel you have fruitless turns, I also noticed in this game that you will, maybe just slightly too frequently, have those turns where you do one action and then have to waste the second action on doing nothing or you risk making the next turn harder. For example, you'll get the turns where you open a door as your first action, and that spawns enemies on the other side of the door, but then you don't want to move into the room as your final turn action, because you can't attack immediately, and since all enemies have the "at the start of your turn" effects, you don't want to start your next turn in the same zone as the enemies, so you're stuck just going, "ok, I guess I'll just wait here and do nothing for my second action. Then on my next turn, my two actions can be move into the room, and then attack." Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the game immensely, and I'm glad my friend got it, and happy to be going through all of it, but that simplicity in game design does definitely lead to some of those turns that feel sub-optimal in that way.
    The only other thing I wish it had was some indication of what the icon tokens were going to be, to be able to tell which ones you do or do not want to interact with. We find that we pretty much always end up just going through and activating every single token in each scenario, because although a couple might be bad, a) there's literally no way to know which might be good or bad, or what any of them might even be at all, and b) you wind up needing enough of them that you kind of can't risk NOT activating every token in every scenario. So, in one scenario you might interact with the dead body that's on the orange ankh icon and get a quest item, but in another scenario, you might interact with the dead body on that same token, and it just spawns a bunch of scarabs. On one hand, with no actual decisions to make with regards to which tokens you want to interact with, you do end up getting to see pretty much everything the designers created for the whole scenario which is cool in a way. But on the other hand, if you have to pretty much just interact with every token anyway, then the scenarios are a bit "on rails" and there are no meaningful decisions to make. Doesn't make it not fun, just maybe too simplistic.
    So, I fully agree with you both. This is such a good, fun game, that I'm really enjoying, and that does so many things really well, and really simply, but cleverly. Then, it just has those few, weird little things about it that would keep it from being really amazing and elevated. So, I'm happy to be playing it, but I'm also kind of glad that my friend bought it and not me.

    I was ready to buy this till I heard the negatives. I can get around the legacy part by photo copying the book or whatever I need to do but the mystery of the game can't be repeated twice cause you know where everything is. That is what will make me not buy this unless I find it for cheap. I love the theme and look of this game so bad! It's disappointing that there are some negatives that push me away. Let's hope they reprint this game as a full campaign and fix all the nonsense. THEN IM IN!

    • @kumanight
      @kumanight 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I'll say this (I'm 5 plays in right now), there are so many things to explore/search that you're going to forget where the mysteries are as you play later scenarios. I can't remember where the secret thing is in episode 2 now for example.

    I always want to like these style of games; Mansions of Madness etc. Cool that this one seems very much more simplified, but I know for sure I still wouldn't like it. Good review though, my group will definitely force me to play this one so at least I know what I'm getting into.

    Man, and hear I thought traditional "legacy" mechanisms were dead and gone. The game is interesting, and I like that it is a lighter game, but I would definitely laminate or use some type of system to be able to salvage components for another run through. I despise "disposable" games.

  • @szendroib
    @szendroib 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It was a huge disappointment for me, a Kickstarter Cautionary tale if you wish :D. The minis and art look great, but the good stops there. The 2 actions are way too few to do anything meaningful, Not to mention the actions are not too interesting. You do 2 actions in 10 seconds, you read a card. Basically this is the gameplay loop. It is an escape room game that has a not too functional dungeon crawler attached to it. It is also legacy for no reason at all, you can remember player choices without a notebook that should be destroyed, like a card binder or something. I was excited for the game, but it didn't offer anything fun for me unfortunately.

      @@jodymitchell1678- Wasn't too salty. 😊 My wife and I are similar: we love our LGS and would rather buy three $50 games that have long term replayability than a single $150 investment (especially if it's too simplified/repetitive).
      This game doesn't seem too bad or anything; it just doesn't seem to meet the balance for how my groups play.
