Gibson Memphis ES-Les Paul Overview

- The solidbody Les Paul Standard and semi-acoustic ES-335 are the two most influential electric guitars ever to hit their respective genres. Now Gibson brings them together in the ES-Les Paul, a stunning "meeting of minds" that blends the most important aspects of form and function from two immensely popular designs. Far more than merely a "chambered Les Paul" or an ES-335 "shaped like a single-cut", this entirely new guitar is the result of painstaking assessment of what makes each of these legendary models great, and a careful marriage of features by the skilled luthiers at Gibson Memphis.

Having a bad back, this is one of my favorite Les Pauls!
Greg's demos are so entertaining and with so much great music that I don't think his videos of playing with a band can compete. They're good, and Greg's playing is always amazing, but I like his solo stream-of-consciousness meanderings better.
Properly the best demo player in the world, nice one Greg your so cool.
I will purchase one of these amazingly light Les Pauls, if they promise to ship a set of the possessed-madman's maniacal fingers with it. Surely then, I too can play like this crazed and fiendish half-guitar/half-man.
I've seen opinions that the ES-Les Pauls are ugly or that they don't sound good. Let this video put that fallacy to rest. What an amazing tone and gorgeous looks! And kudos to the guitar player. Wow!! I love my ES-Les Paul in Pelham blue. And unlike opinions -- which as we know, everybody has one -- not everybody gets to own and love one of these amazing beauties!
It is amazing how there are famous players out there that don't have a quarter of the musical knowledge and fretboard memory that this man has. I never heard of him until heard of wildwind guitars.
That is a great sounding player and guitar !
There really isn't anything wrong with a Les Paul that breathes...
I actually like this ES Les Paul & as always a great guitar review by wildwood. Rock on :)
Put out recordings already. Greg, (auto-correct says Grew - but I'm willing to upgrade to Swell or, possibly even Grewest!) You are the ultimate rodeo-clown guitarist, and you come equipped with a set of the finest golden ears I've ever clapped eyes on. Plus you pick all that crazy stuff wildly in tune. Hat's fully off.
Came here for the guitar. Staying for the player, damn!!! 🔥
that's a guit ar I could grow old with x
I'd pay 10X that price if it came with a "skills pack" that would allow me to play 10% as well. Greg is an incredible guitar player.
link to the product site does not work
Sounds great and I think Greg could sell stale Red Hots in Hell.
Pretty NON mediocre playing LOL. You are one of the 10% that doesn't start off with a quick WOOOO up the E string. You must be primarily a Telecaster guy. Amazing demo and playing. Thanks
Your blending of rock and roll and country on "Johnny B. Goode" sounds like George Harrison if George Harrison had found a way to jump across the space-time continuum and become prodigious student of Stevie Ray.
He wouldnt need to time jump at all. Stevie didnt come to prominence till the 80's while Harrison is from the 60's.
George had already learned to play by the late 50s. He'd have to jump time to re-learn from SRV lol.
Mercy!
What happened to the Canon Ball Rag?
Wow dude can sure play.
Whats the diffrent
This and the nos es Memphis standard?
Greg Koch is such an inspiration to listen to! Definitely gotta get me one of those guitars...
I'm looking for a guitar gibson and I see this guitar. I like the design but as I am interested in rock music (style guns roses, 30 seconds to mars, ...), this guitar is perhaps not recommended.. What do you think?
spykmax nope
yeah but it didn't sound like that when i played it
Yo nothin' but a bigg show off! Great! Love it!
Size fretwire?
I've just purchased one. It was reduced by £1200.
where from?
nice tele sounding Gibson,!!!, now i have to sell my house my car and my propierties to get one of this.
Well, They are 10x harder to make, and it takes 10x longer. Fenders were made to be easy to mass produce, Gibsons were not.
I'll put my 2000 Epiphone Les Paul ES up against this any day. This sounds more like an ES than a Paul. (Not a knock against the player - he did a fantastic job of showing me why this is not a Les Paul).
It has existed prior to "now". Epiphone has made them for years up until recently. Unfortunately when Gibson got upset that Epis LP-ES' were cutting into sales of the Florentine (basically the same thing as this), Epi moved production to China - where the quality dropped so far that they were forced to stop making them. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epiphone_Les_Paul#Les_Paul_ES
But some nice playing there.
You got a lot of replies from yourself.
An Epiphony? Made in Asia? With the heavy plastic finish and the inferior electronics? Get real...
It sounds dark, muddy, don't like it.... Only thing I like is Greg's magic.
Yeah sounds a little muffled. I need to try one out in person to see for sure.
Josh Neilson I agree. I have an Epi Les Paul ES that sounds a LOT better. Brighter with more midrange "honk" and clearer low end. It does not sound like my Pauls until I hit insane volumes, but neither does it sound like a ES-335 plyed under a pillow.
I think I would have to agree. It will work for a light overdrive at best before it turns to mud.
I just got the Epiphone version as well and, I agree with your assessment of both guitars.
