We dont tend to have products that you use on your side of world so for those that dont have the root powder either: when propagating cuttings in water, once roots are established. I just start adding a little soil each day over about a week to the water. I find this helps to acclimate from full water to soil.
Thank you!
This is what I’ve been looking for. Found a few roots growing out of a store bought fruit.
When u buy a drgaon fruit and take the ccatus piece off do u just plant it since it like alreay dry from bottom
I usually graft it to get a better chance. But also had success planting the dry part and getting it to root.
Richard, I picked the best one from my grocery and twisted the stem off. How do I show it to you and have you tell me if it is good for rooting?
I lived in Ecuador for 8 years and since moving back to the states, have always missed the Pitajaya! Going to try to grow this and bring some of that flavor into my own garden! Thank you! Lovely video!!
Depending on where in the States you live, the climate may not be suitable for dragon fruit, so keep that in mind. Even if the temperature is great, the humidity might not be enough. Take care, and consider a greenhouse.
@@hauntedshadowslegacy2826 i live in wi and can find them, you just gotta check the Hispanic food stores
I’ve been searching for one just like this and never could until my wife came home today with literally a small arm on it😮I just root dip it and placed it in some soil. So let’s see what happens. It says golden dragon
@@darksidedsoonnelson2522anything yet?
@@darksidedsoonnelson2522 did it work?
Thank you Richard! I picked up a yellow dragon with a same size green momma attached today at Publix. I'm trying this method of rooting to see what will happen. Already growing bunch of yellows I started from a seed. They are still too young to bare fruit. My red dragons are producing this year. Thank you for introducing me to growing this wonderful fruit and an entire community of growers who share the same passion!!!❤
Thank you for all of your videos; they're very informative and you are very well spoken. Not even gonna front, this is my favorite gardening channel. Thanks to you, my indoor Pittsburgh dragon fruit jungle is fluorishing! Hollaaaaaa
I have had no problem growing red and white flesh dragon fruit from seed, but I have not had a single germination of yellow seeds. Irregardless of the method I try. The only difference being the gel encapsulated seeds typical of the yellow dragon fruit. I found a yellow with a good stem and am attempting to root it as in this video.
Thank you for the tips. Hope it works.
Thank you
Chuck
Ok so I live in the north east in Connecticut and I just put the seeds in some dirt or I put it in a papers towel and mist it until I see a tiny bit of green then I put the paper towel in the dirt in a small pot and they sprouted for me also I would recommend putting a plastic bag over the pot
Hi Richard,It's Jimmy Maylands Here keep up the good work you are going,Love all your videos.
Really great how-to video, Richard! Super easy to do with all the stems that come on the dragon fruit at the stores!
Thanks! like this video a lot! I am wondering if it is possible to get many plants from a single 10” cutting by chopping it into pieces and following your procedure. Have you tried doing so?
You’re very welcome and yes that’s possible! I would try to keep the cuts to a minimum of 2-3 inches each to get the best results for rooting. I do this when I have cuttings that are 3-4 feet long and I’ll chop them into 4-5 sections/pieces so I can use them as cuttings to create more of that variety.
That’s exactly what I am aiming to do. Do you cut and let the cuts dry or place them directly into water.
Let them dry and callus first before trying to root
You can add a small amount of the hydrogen peroxide right in the shot cup of water. The oxygen will help them root and you won't have to switch the water out as often too.
Awesome videos!! I have loved watching and learning your techniques. I graft many types of cactus and wanted to try grafting yellow types, however i could only find a piece just big enough to try and root, thanks to seeing this video, i now have a rooted section! Cant wait to cross breed these with something els!
Found u thru Kevin, (Eric/Epic). Love your videos! sometimes it's hard to find an expert who also understands what makes a video not only watchable, but legit entertaining. Great job! My son and I want to grow ANY dragon fruit so that we can taste a ripe one. We've tried 2 of the most common ones, and a small red one that was as disgusting as it was beautiful, a juxtaposition SO strong I couldn't believe my own senses! So, thanks again for the info!
Thanks for the tips. Very informative. Now I am going to ask my friends to maybe donate a small piece of their dragon fruit plant, so I can try growing. Wish me luck.
Awesome tip, now I can start looking for my favorite strain and clone them.
I threw that chunk threw it away! Genius, never knew u could clone from the left over stem.
A awesome Job I enjoyed the watching this video thank you for sharing
Supercool! I started 30 plants from seed from that variety. I didn’t know you could do that. Thx🙌🏽
I like to try that method, thanks for sharing my friend 👍👍👍
Smart idea! Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge! More power to you & to your channel! Aloha & God bless!!!
Wait... I can grow a dragon fruit plant like that?
im starting from seeds like a cave man!
Thank you Richard! I'd tried the clone grafting but not successful, I'll definitely try this. Thank you Dragon Fruits King!!!
I have some seedlings going and today I found a perfectly ripe fruit with 2 nodes on it. Mother nature slipped me an amazing bday present today with that one.
I always watch your youtube channel and thanks a lot ,im successful to graft palora ..godbless richard ..thanks for sharing your knowledge on grating 😊😊😊
I just tried this hopefully I’ll get some roots 👍🏽
Any luck??
I like all your videos. Thank you. I will do mine
Wow, I tried it that way also but I put a little too much water that it touched the part where it fruited and end up spoiled and never tried it again 🙁. Glad to hear yours rooted.😃 Now I’ll try it again. Thanx🙏
This is a brilliant idea!!🎊🎈🎉🎈🎈🎊🎉🤗
I'm not successful with grafting at this time, I'm going to try this technique.
Can't waite to see the outcome.🤗🎊🎊🎈🎉🎉🎉
Thank you for sharing.😊🎈
I am a viewer from Melbourne Australia and I just love your channel. So Much great stuff and makes me want to start growing dragon fruits!
concise and richin info, thanks
I had literally just done my first graft with store bought fruit using your other video and this video just pops up. I wasn’t confident of grafting so would have tried this rooting method instead. Now i gotta go see if i can find another fruit with stem to try rooting. But, but why not just root in soil like normal cutting? Why in water? Thanks for sharing.
I'm about to head to the store to try this haha. Thank you!
Great idea! Thanks.😊
Good information 👍️💚👏
Definitely interested in an update!
Update is now up!
Hey richard, good one.... nice to see you back
Thank you 🤙🏼
😄
Great video I'm going to copy this and try it on the dates I started from seeds
Wow, Great Video
Exelant research work..Thanks
I wish I had seen this video a few weeks ago. 😢 i bought some fruits that had thick, healthy stems connected to them. I didn't know that I could have grown them.
I have 15 red dragon fruit plants growing, started from seed. The yellow never took sprout 😞
At least now i know for the next time I buy yellow with stems... I can regrow them. 😀
👍 Thank-You
Next time!
@@GraftingDragonFruit Definitely 😀 now my mission when buying dragon fruits, is to find the ones with stems. 😉
Growing from seeds, does take quite some time. I began growing my plants nearly 2 yrs ago, without a greenhouse. Just growing them indoors. They are about 10-20 inches long. Lots of white soft spikes, and quite a few black hard spikes. Can I ask, what do I do about the side growths?
Out of Nowhere, a few of them grew side sprouts (overnight), and are about 1-3inches long.
Which end goes in the water ? The part that was in the fruit or the outside cut end ?
Richard, awesome, I can do that, one things how do you know which end to go in the water the bottom and which end is the top???
I like it am try it thank you for sharing all your video.
Exelente idea ✨
Para obtener una planta wooow muy interesante👏 gracias 👍🏼
Thank you! 100% helpful
Thank you so much for this information 😅
How do you actually find stem like that though? The ones here, ngl, walmart stems are cut around, not through, and this other store cuts em really short and puts wave over the stubs, I can't seem to find a nice meaty one
This is pretty cool, well done. Should/could you use regular rooting hormone to assist this process?
Thank you for all your advice I always buy dragon fruit try to take them off and put it in water but it always gets rotten now I know what to do I will give it a try
Thank You!
Awesome!! Just found a stem one. Fruit today at Kroger. Will give it a try !!
Thank you for sharing your skill and brilliant thoughts
I hope we have that variety here in the Philippines
Do you also sell the yellow dragon fruit cuttings? Interested in the Ecuador Palora. Heard it's the Sweetest variety.
Nice! Thanks for this. I hope I can get other varieties from the market with stem-like that.
Hi Richard… you inspire me to grow dragon fruit… Your videos are very helpful and makes one want to watch your other videos as well… I do want to know though if the end of the stem submerge in water was also cut before putting it in water?
Yes, cut the end of stem before submerging in water to let it root.
That’s a great idea! I hope I’ll find such stems
I love yellow dragon fruit
OMG, I did a similar thing, but I applied rooting hormone to them, hopefully, they root! I can't wait for your website to launch!
I hope it works and roots for you!
@@GraftingDragonFruit thanks!
Did it root Super Nessa?
Very brilliant 👍👍
What a great tip! Thanks for sharing.
Hi Richard I hope you see my comment 😩 should I put the stem I’m trying to root in shade or under a grow light?
Thank you! This is exactly what I wanted to know!
Thanks Richard.
Have a good day ...
Thanks for sharing, Richard, it’s amazing!
We're you able to get a fruit producing plant to grow? Maybe not enough time yet.
Is 55 degrees fine for a dragon fruit for the winter months 🤔
55F is fine but anything in the frost temps will start to do damage like 38-34F
I live in North CA. Temp starts to drop to 40-45 F at night. Is it still safe to keep the young DF outside or I need to cover them with the frost protection blanket. I have been covering them for this week just in case. Thanks Richard.
@Tropical Bay Area : I put them at the most sunny location. They get sun all morning and most afternoon but haven’t noticed any growth. I potted them in September I think, should I fertilize them a little bit since they are babies, about 5 -7 months old.
Trying this! Do you cut the end before putting it in water or leave it callused? Thanks!
Hi Richard, Im assuming that you can only do this method if the stem is calloused?
Thanks.Very helpful.
How long will this method take to start reproducing fruit?
That looks similar size and all to one I got the other day , it was the first dragon fruit I have ever tried and I really liked it but I don't think any of them had any stem material on them at all but I will try to remember that just in case because I would love to be able to grow some. Thanks I did start the seeds from the one I got.
Awesome 👍
Where in SoCal can we buy this yellow dragon fruit? Is it a super sweet variety?
How do you know which end of the stem to put in the water vs up in the air?
How do you know which one is top or bottom? Thanks
Great video Richard. Do you need to make a fresh cut for root to grow in the shot glass?
Hello friend, I do not speak English, would you tell me if you used a rooting agent in the water for root growth?
Do I need it to dry first?
Love the video! You look great.
Thank you Kristina! ❤️
Wow could you give us updates on how this project is going later on in the furture
Will do!
How is it going ?
Is there an update video how this cutting did? I just found some of these variety at Costco! Excited to try to root it. What kind of soil did you use? Also i have regular rooting plant powder hormone- would that work if I dipped it into the powder first? Thanks for your helpful vids
Thank you! That’s brilliant!👍❤️
So if it has thorns do I just submerge that part in water or do they need to be clipped?
Can you do it if it's been refrigerated
Richard where I can buy yellow DF cuttings? Thank you
Such good information. Thank you!
Thanks for this I was thinking the same thing when I saw a cutting piece on dragon fruit at the store but never thought of rooting in water first just stuck it in dirt
Will it take more time to fruit like growing plant from seed?
Thank you Richard.
if you get a cutting like this from the store will the plants selfpolinate or do you need to do it manually
Have you tried just putting it directly in the ground without rooting it??
Question: the cut part on the top (not the bottom where you want roots) and where the fruit was attached... does it need to be sealed? If it does, what do you use to seal it? Or, will it "scab over" and be okay.
should i let the cutting dry out first? before putting it in water?
شئ جميل انت صبور يا ريتشارد
Where do you get dragon fruits?
hi Richard. Im a newbie. Well I just watched the clip and wonder how to know which is the upper tip and which will be the rooting tip ? I'm might going to submerge the wrong tip. thx
Great video
Can you root this kind of cuttings in sphagnum moss? I had very good results with Epiphyllums
@@Admirable_Tomorrow i tried but it was an unhealthy cutting from tje butt of a fruit and it roted in hours. I will try again.
Do you really need that much soil for a cactus? Or is that just a choice you made? I have limited space
Can I plant dragon fruit in Chicago area?
