    As Michigan's Superfan, Fro Dough, here, I would like to mention that not much was said of the quality of Indiana's players and COACHING. They are FAR vetoer a team than they have been in years. We will know how good of a team we beat at the end of the year. They deserve a LOT of credit. Michigan should be praised for a very tough battle won.

    Did the Michigan vs. Indiana football game air on ESPN and ABC on October 2, 2010, yes?

  • @McSomething15
    @McSomething15 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @TheGloveMI We did better defensively in the second half than in the first. We rushed more than 3 for the most part in the first, and typically only 3 in the second. They scored only 2 TDs in the second half.

    i think this year's UM vs OSU game is going to be like the one in '06, a straight shoot out.

    I agree she ruins the video, but if you mute it you can still hear the sonic boom on Denards first run of the game.

  • @McSomething15
    @McSomething15 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @VCavman24 What I mean is, we don't have the experience yet at D-back to rush extra guys on many plays. They just aren't ready yet to play man coverage one-on-one. We have to drop enough guys into coverage so the other team has to try and sustain long drives that eat up a lot of clock. Drives that run the risk of making mistakes just by the law of averages. Now, as soon as we're more experienced on the back end, and have more depth on the line, you'll see more blitzing. Just not this year.

  • @McSomething15
    @McSomething15 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @skoolboy810 Too bad it was when we rushed more than three that we struggled, and that only rushing three was when we did our best defensively yesterday. In the first half, they were rushing 4 of 5 guys, and we struggled. In the second half, we typically only rushed 3. And we stopped all but two of their drives.

  • @enialis02
    @enialis02 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    I appreciate the stops that the D did manage to get in the second half. We won't face another passing offense as potent as Indiana until we see ohio state. Martin is a beast and I'm not sure teams can run on us.

    Robinson was a great Michigan QB , Just ask ND who lost twice in the final seconds. Go look at the videos. I just love watching this great Michigan Player....PLAY !!!!

  • @McSomething15
    @McSomething15 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    If we're gonna continue to run this 3-front for the rest of the year, we really need to start sending an extra defender (or two) on the blitz. I mean, I know we're incredibly young/inexpeirenced on the back-end, but the strength of the 3-front D is disguising where your blitzes are coming from. If you're not gonna blitz, then you're just running a prevent defense all day. It's why teams are able to sit back and pick us apart all day.

    @drfanfare
    I agree. It difficult to control the game clock when your offense scores so quickly. Everyone knows that our defense needs some work, but I thought that they did a good job considering how inexperienced we are in the secondary and I was also encouraged that our front line was finally able to get some pressure on Chappell. If we can continue to get pressure on the QB, that will help our secondary and get us a win or 2.
    So for now, let’s just enjoy our 5th win.
    Go Blue!!!

    @TheZooCrew I'm not asking him to do more work, I'm just saying that it would be probably fairly easy to find someone who has an HD recording and edit using that as a source.
    Of course I'd be willing to help. Heck, I would have lent him the official dvd's of the '81 Rose Bowl and Fiesta Bowl if I knew he was going to redo those in 2 parts. But I'd need to know more about his capture equipment and editing software as well as how to utilize what I've got.

    @VCavman24 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @McSomething15 What do you mean? We obviously need four men rushing, if we are 120th in the nation in pass defense, the three man rush is not working. The teams we face have all the time we need, and we know the four man rush is what we need. If we use the four man rush we play a lot better.

    I also never said Kovacs wasn't a good player. But he's the type of player you want as a backup because it means someone is better than him. He's very limited physically even if he tackles well.

    We all know that Michigan's Offense is incredible....The Defense, no so..... What really discouraged me was the 3rd and 16 and the 3rd and 10's that IU converted..... Greg Robinson should not have the soft coverage in those situations... He needs to start showing the young secondary that he is starting to trust them. Also, did anyone notice how much pressure Michigan had on Chappel when we rushed 4?

    @justrobin1 "or is all hopes lost for this season?"
    Pretty much all hope is lost. The defensive secondary is the issue. Whenever a defense is forced into running schemes that compensate for an apparent weakens, it is going to hurt every aspect of that defense (pass and rush). Our secondary will greatly improve throughout the season however every team's wide recievers and quarterbacks that we play against will also improve. The difference is, our guys will be back next season.

    Normally I would have called out Indiana's defense on their sluggishness when they got burned by Roundtree on the second TD, but Mitchell Evans #5 isn't a slow guy. I don't think Roundtree gets enough credit for his ability to do things after the catch.

  • @McSomething15
    @McSomething15 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @justrobin1 With 9 freshman, and a lack of depth, don't expect the defense to magically get any better this season. It's gonna be a long haul the rest of the way, but we knew that going in.

  • @TheZooCrew
    @TheZooCrew 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @jazzbryce07
    Kovacs is actually one of the best tacklers on the team, despite being undersized. He got WOOPED by a dude bigger and more athletic than him on that last TD because he took the wrong angle.
    The 4th and 5 play wasn't Mouton's fault...read mgoblog. Mouton took care of his assignment. Talbott essentially played man coverage when he was responsible for the short zone on that side, leaving Willis wide open.

  • @clio06lotr
    @clio06lotr 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    3-3-5 defense isn't suppose to look that bad. When you drop 7 or 8 guys into coverage and the receivers are wide open, that falls on Greg Robinson and his coaching. When Michigan had 4 down linemen and sent a rush towards the end of the game they started to get good pressure and force punts.

  • @WolverineHistorian

    @thegenius5 The guy isn't horrible. He's had success (as a d-coordinator) everywhere he's been. He's in year 2 of a (minimum) 3 year rebuilding. We have no experience or depth on defense. Give him time.

    Brandon Graham is a better counterexample. He became what he was last year from working with Barwis and coach Bruce Tall.
    Mouton looks night and day different from last year now that Hopson's gone and GERG handles the linebackers.
    Stevie Brown last year was useful for the first time in his career...and GERG was his position coach as well.

    @TheZooCrew I AGREE,Michigan moved the ball all day.It was redzone mistakes by the qb,but they were in the Redzone....lol ur rite,real fans dont jump ship after a single game r u kidding me??I know fans r anxious for a quality win,but lets not forget denard was only in his 6th start on sat. he's gonna make mistakes.he has alot of pressure on him.pretty much has to score on every posession bein that our defense is still pretty bad.....GOOD point!!

  • @MrAlex_Raven
    @MrAlex_Raven 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Our situation reminds me a bit of when the Oakland Raiders played the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Super Bowl. Raiders had the best offense in the country, the Bucs had the best defense in the country. Someone during that year told me that it doesn't matter how much you can score on someone, if you can't stop anybody, you will not win.
    So we must tread lightly and how Greg Robinson pulls it together.

  • @TheZooCrew
    @TheZooCrew 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    You're so wrong it's not even funny.
    Scott Shafer was the D coordinator in 2008.
    Jay Hopson was LB coach in 2008 and 2009.
    We do not have enough great athletes on both sides of the ball, otherwise we wouldn't have a shitload of walk-ons in the two-deep and Kovacs wouldn't see the field ever.

    Rogers is actually decent at every aspect of being a cornerback except changing direction, which is unfortunately the most important aspect. Even so, he doesn't cause as much DOOM as anticipated. If you want to see a bad corner, look at Indiana's Ernest, who gets burned by Roundtree on his TD and then put in the ground by Hemingway on his 70-yard score.

    It's not our fault if defenses are so bad that they cave from basic running plays. I mean, when Vincent Smith takes a handoff and only has to break one tackle to outrun an entire defense, you are NOT good.

    @clio06lotr It doesn't fall on coaching. There's no scheme or coach that could get any more out of our defense than we're already getting. We have zero depth, and minimal experience. It's gonna take time.

  • @thegenius5
    @thegenius5 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @ThoseWhoStayUofM Don't think he is rooting for us to lose at all, he is just frustrated that when we win another game it makes us bowl bound and more likely for the horrible def coordinator to stay on. Sorry, all you people saying he is like RR are wrong. Our defense may be young, but when you lose a bunch of recruits for various reasons and cant get more than what we have so far out of these kids, that is coaching. That 3rd and 16 conversion was complete coaching failure.

  • @McSomething15
    @McSomething15 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @EricGoBlue That's no different than all of those people that said RichRod simply should've tried to make his system fit the players he had available to him. It's not always as easy as it sounds. If you have no depth or experience, you have no depth or experience. System be damned at that point.

    Hopefully our defense won't be on the field for over 40 minutes like they were here. Our D might not be good, but Indiana looked like a high school team on that side of the ball. 42 points in under 20 minutes of possession is just sad.

    People that are saying Greg Robinson needs to be fired are just as dumb (yes dumb) as those saying Rich Rod should've been fired each of the last two years. The defense is currently in year 2 of a (minimum) 3 year project of rebuilding under Robinson. And it doesn't help that all of our d-backs are freshman. Hell, one of them was a receiver last year. He was redshirted, but still.

    "he clearly doesn't know how to work from the ground up. That's the point."

  • @wolverinefangowings

    exactly. Our defense was putrid under them. Hoke comes in and turns things around. Watching this just reminds me how far our defense has come...

  • @McSomething15
    @McSomething15 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @EricGoBlue There isn't a defensive coach, nor scheme, that could get any more out of our defense than Robinson is getting. Not one. With our lack of depth and experience we either play up tight the way a lot of people think we should using a 4 man front; thus being more susceptible to the big(ger) plays. Or we stick with the 3 man front and play off and let the teams try to dink and dunk all day. Hoping we can make a play or two before they can score. Pick your poison. I'll take the latter.

    Indiana ran 98 plays in this game. Michigan ran only 45. I don't think that I have ever seen that level of discrepancy before. I wish that I could have seen what this offense would do with just a mediocre defense playing opposite them who could force a punt now and then.

    I think everyone's giving Greg Robinson too much slack. WHY is the secondary so young? When he arrived, there must have been good recruits wanting to be Charles Woodson. He's been coaching them for 2 years now, and none of the people he's been coaching are better than the incoming freshmen? We need someone who can take a Michigan recruiting class and turn them into a Michigan defense.

    You couldn't be more wrong. MGoBlog has beaten this subject to death. This defense was never going to be good regardless of coaches. 2007 was a mask, they had just enough good players in key spots to cover up their weaknesses. They were all seniors.

    Punctuation, bro...you know how to use it? Try it sometime.
    The MSU game was basically the offense's version of the UMass game for defense...poor execution made them look worse than they were. The defense probably would have performed better without the turnovers. This defense was never going to be good; the offense will have to execute if we're going to win games. Just relax.

    Simmons, Moundros, Leach, to name three who get playing time at least.

    @EricGoBlue With our lack of depth and experience on defense, there's absolutely no coach that could come in with any scheme and do better than we already are defensively. You really are showing your ignorance of the situation with comments like these. Do you not realize that the defense actually got the stop on 8 possessions today? Probably not. If not for a bad turnover at the 1, or for a few stalled drives in the second half, we roll.

    I'm seeing the lack of experience and youth in the D...which is something you can't fix with coaching. But when I see a 12 yard cushion on 3rd and 4, and they easily convert a first down with a pitch and catch out route...that is a break down in scheme and poor coaching. I keep hearing about this guy's track record at Texas and in the NFL but he is failing our young defense. On a brighter, those are errors that can be fixed so let's hope Greg Robinson gets his head out of his ass. Go blue

    @EricGoBlue "quit crying already and just come up with better arguments."
    HAHAHA! That's funny because you haven't even refuted anything. You corrected a spelling mistake and said Michigan is embarassing. What does that refute? Nothing.
    My argument is that people hate our coaches so much that they don't want us to win games. Is that incorrect?
    "he is just frustrated that when we win another game it makes us bowl bound "
    How is that NOT rooting for us to lose!? Seriously!?
