@17ll3 x214 Not 'entirely' true. As long as there are interceptors and air superiority fighters flying top cover, then the A-10 is, for the most part, free to make it's runs as it pleases due to the high durability and cheap cost. By comparison, due to the high costs of the F-35, they will not be able to operate until the air is fully in allied hands, thus making close ground support options nearly out of the question for our tankers and infantry. The A-10 is cheap enough and sturdy enough to fly into a kill zone (with top cover support that is), hit it's targets while taking fire, and get home while the top cover engages the enemy. The A-10 does NOT need there to be full allied control of the airspace.
ThunderChief666 the only threats to an aircraft aren’t always in the air. For instance, Air Defenses, like SAMS, MANPADS, or just AAA from a competent enemy may be enough to warrant CAS from a different platform, even with SEAD, and Air Superiority.

That gun would be good for stopping home invaders, even on the next block over!
I honestly dont know why I tear up every time I hear an a-10 and its gun sound. Absolutely beautiful
Because if a pair swooped in a saved your ass, those tears be justified 😉👍
Because it's the sound of Freedom, and freedom is a tearjerker.
@@SPFLDAngler Dang, I was going to post the exact same thing! 👍
I would tear up if I were a ground soldier knowing that sound probably saved my life
A10: the last thing you never heard.
Nice.
Wrong, if you're the target you would be long dead before you'd hear the sound. You'd just be filled with holes thinking "What in the fuck just happened?" if you were still alive after being hit by it.
@@PiousSlayer Bruh. The last thing you *never* heard. OP made a witty tag line for the GAU 8 and you missed it. Also, if even one 30mm explosive incendiary from that cannon hits a man ...well, that ammunition blows people into slop meat.
@@andrewrobertson3894
Shit, I misread it on my phone. Oh well.
I know if you get hit by its shells it's very unlikely you'd survive, if anything is even left of you. In the rare case that you do survive for a moment before dying that'd most likely be your final thought.
The GAU 8 Avenger is a beautiful, beautiful piece of machinery that will always be useful to some capacity. I really hope they don't wind up retiring the air craft and find ways to upgrade it so it can continue its amazing service. It's such a huge morale booster for soldiers on the ground and it has an iconic sound from the rounds impacting the ground and then the BRRRRT that follows.

love watching combat footage hearing our US soldiers laughing & hollering amidst the fire fight, almost brings tear to your eye that they're able to laugh like that during all the chaos
This is the most American thing I’ve ever seen.

I think you mean it's the most patriotic thing. To be American these days, you need to be morbidly obese, have purple hair, and no functional reproductive organs.

AFTER the 1st downing of the first close air support F-35: "Effective immediately the A-10's will be resuming their previously successful close air support role".
I sincerely hope that the A-10s will continue service by the time I can join the Air Force.
@@notblake8617 Good news! The A10 is a platform now and will be getting upgrades to ensure future service!
@@DorkAndFriends its still accepted that the F-35 will eventually replace the A-10 but for now its getting modernized
I was fortunate top hear the A-10 rip the sky apart back some 35 years ago. It is something that you never forget.
@Kathleen Shaw Amazing stuff. Thanks for sharing that.
All I want to do in life is say to an A-10 pilot “you’re cleared hot”
all i want is to hear that from a JTAC...
It’s so wild how you see and hear the rounds before you hear the sound of the gun.
I would so love to buy that guy hollering a couple of drinks. I just love how he sounds when those rounds hit. 😂😂😂
Thank you guys for keeping us safe and being the professionals you are.
That loud fart sound is the A10 firing that 30MM cannon. USAF🇺🇸

Thanks for your service Brit much love to y'all from overseas 👊
Thank you for your service from a brother in 🇺🇸.
tbh any f-16, f-18, f-22 or f-35 could do this, most likeyl even better
They can't, or they would have already been doing it. The A-10 is unique in its loiter capability, slow speed maneuvering, and load capacity. It was built to do this and there is literally no other plane like it. The only thing that comes close is the Super Tucano, and the AF doesn't like it because it's not sexy enough and not expensive enough.
@@tudorg22 you obviously have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, the a10 survivability is second to none, it can carry more weapons on more pylons than any other aircraft. The fact you tried to put the f22 raptor which is an air superiority fighter in the same category as an A10 close air ground support aircraft just shows you've no clue.
See some folks used to think an Uzi was something. Nope.
A-10 best value yet for taxpayers money. Well F-18 Hornet.

"Those are palm trees, you can make oil out of it"
"Did you say *oil?"*

There's no oil in Afghanistan, also it's not worth it to steal oil from half way across the planet, bring it to the USA, refine it and use/sell it. It costs more to do that than you would get from it.
