    You did an amazing job on the decal!!! Wow. I am so excited to do this on my Squier Mustang Mustang. Thank you!

    I really appreciate this tutorial; it brings back memories of water-transfer decals on plastic models. It also illustrates why I won’t buy a used “Fender” online, as with a “Gibson” that may very well be a Chibson.

    tint gloss finish even better i think , big 70s or mustang headstock with tint gloss finish is the best looking fender headstock.

      Agreed! Would have loved to go amber on this, but it would have required a full neck worth of work. I'm being lazy this week. Lol

  • @ramsilva

    Loved this. That glass finish is pro level. Idk what you charge to do this kind of work but whatever it is, double it!
    I also appreciate that none of these mods are functional, they’re purely aesthetic; function for the soul.
    Another great one, B!

    I just noticed something watching this video again. The replacement decal says "Offset Contour Body", but the Sonic doesn't have a contour body, it's flat on both sides. The Bullet Mustang had a contour body, but the Sonic does not.

    Kudos to you for not putting a Fender decal on a Squier guitar.

    • @breilly66
      @breilly66  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yea I can't do that. People gotta know what they're getting. Besides... at this point Squier isn't the swear word it once was.
      I remember the HS snobbery from 25 years ago. These days.... way I see it... if J Mascis plays one, they're just fine.

    • @dnields
      @dnields ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@breilly66 Exactly. Squiers are nothing to turn your nose up at or try to hide. I have seen a few other videos where part of the "upgrade" to a Squier is changing the headstock logo to a Fender one. Look, just because FMIC makes them, doesn't mean your Squier is a Fender... they are two distinct and different brands under one parent company. Be happy and proud of what you have, there's no need to put a logo on it saying it's something it just isn't.

    • @breilly66
      @breilly66  ปีที่แล้ว

      @dnields Damn straight. Plus... in 30 years when the sealant has worn off the neck and they're all broken in... everyone will want the Squier headstock. Sounds crazy. But only as crazy as us chasing old Mustangs.

    I have the red one and I also put a white pearl pickguard on mine along with red metal knobs, locking tuners and roller trees. Now I'm thinking I might upgrade the logo with waterslide decals. Awesome guitar, I'm very happy with it. I'm a fan of short scale guitars (though I am still more of a Strat guy.)

      Both were on Ebay! These units are popular as heck. And these mods as well. Plenty are selling for the Sonic Mustang if you type that in . :)

  • @jfiery
    @jfiery ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great video, as always. I think it turned out great and looks much better. I've got an American Performer Tele that has a satin finish all over the neck and headstock and I've been trying to work up the nerve to hit the face of the headstock with something so I can buff it up to a gloss but obviously don't want to mess it up. Can you rattlecan nitro over the poly?

    • @breilly66
      @breilly66  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can indeed rattle nitro over poly! The thing is, alot like fullerplast, the poly stabilizes checking. However.... if you just want the gloss you can spray over after a pass with 1500 wet.
      Or.... you could wetsant the satin finish with 2k and then 3k. After that, you can actually polish the satin into a gloss. :)

      @@breilly66 thanks B. I'll definitely give you a shout if I work up the nerve to try it. Even if it turns out terrible.

  • @timetostartup3451
    @timetostartup3451 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The decal and the Pickguard transform the guitar, one defiantly doing this to my red sonic mustang, I’d love to darken the neck a little bit to give it more of a premium look, any tips on the kind of nitro and other sprays I should buy?

    • @breilly66
      @breilly66  ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. Stew Mac makes a dark tint spray nitro. Simply strip the lam, tint it to your hearts content, lay lam over the cured headstock and shoot clear nitro over the top so the lam isn't tinted too and job done!

    Very nice work. I got one of these Sonic Mustangs and have had to do quite a bit of work on mine, mainly the neck and fretboard. I had a CV that came with a tortoise shell that I replaced with a blue 4ply and decided ro give the tortoise from that a new home. The CV has a vibrato and the Sonic does not, but I don't mind the cut out. Had ro drill a hole for the switch. Anyway, thinking of staining the, basically raw, maple neck/board a nice bright red to match the Torino of the body. Would be my weirdest guitar in the bunch but I've always wanted to take a crack at colorizing maple necks/boards. Oddly, my Sonic is the only one I've seen without a skunk stripe. Anyway, how finished was your neck/board? I'd almost swear that mine is raw. Any concerns you can think of?

    Where did you find another pickguard for the Sonic Stang?

    • @breilly66
      @breilly66  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ebay is loaded with one's specific for this iteration. Should come right up. Just look for the switch hole.

    • @flppr1
      @flppr1 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I checked eBay and Amzn. All I found were Fender mustangs, not squier sonic. Switch hole is located slightly different, and there's a screw hole in the middle of the fenders that's not on the sonics. Thx for your vids btw. I love my sonic stang.

      @@breilly66thx for trying, but my sonic stang pickguard has 9 circumference screws. The link you sent has 11 and one in the middle. I bought one of those on eBay. The pup and switch openings are off alignment enough that it won't look good to modify. I hope the aftermarket starts making ones specifically for the sonic. I'm returning the one I got on eBay. Thx again!

    I replaced the squier decal on my sonic strat that I upgraded with a decal that says:
    (for legal reasons this this guitar is not a)
    *Fender* Stratocaster
    But the parentheses part is extremely small as a meme.
