Great video. This video is making me want to go to Wekweeti even more. Thank you from England!

Thank you for the kind words! Oddly enough, we didn't make it to Wekweeti, since the road was closed. That road is apparently tricky, since one of the streams it crosses has a strong current and needs good ice. We did make it to Whati and Gameti and it was a lot of fun.

This is impressive ! Are there any limitations on what vehicles can be used over the winter roads?

No, there are no rules I am aware of. And on the public roads there are no checkpoints to see who goes in. The flip side is that you are far from help and need to exercise at least some caution. Sure, there's traffic, but things can quickly go sideways at 30 or 40 below....

On ice road s there's normally a speed limit to try and keep the road intact..looks like you may be way above the limit

What's the speed limit on this road? I understand that vehicle weight makes the ice flex, and that driving too fast can damage the road.

I believe semis are limited to 15km/h on water ice, or maybe even 10km/h. On the diamond mine road, they go in convoys of three or four, widely spaced. We drove a Tacoma, which is positively weightless compared to a loaded semi, so the real limit is keeping control on ice - there are stretches on lakes where there is no snow on the ice and you could put your skates on and skate away if wanted to do so! Off the water ice, the road is pretty rough, hills can be steep, curves can be tight and your brakes are more-or-less useless. I don't remember what is the speed limit, but the conditions will dictate pretty slow progress!

Thanks. Seems to me that you kept your speeds sensible. It definitely looks like you'd want to protect your tires as much as possible. One hell of a road trip. Salute!

Speed limit for loaded trucks is 25kmh, 35 kmh when you're north of Lockhart (1/2 way point). The big lakes have an express lane. Southbound empty trucks can do 60 kmh on it. All trucks do 10 kmh onto and off lakes.
