  • This impromptu is renowned as one of the most lyrical pieces in the piano repertoire. In a masterclass at the RCM Sir András Schiff compares the accompaniment in sixlets to a "brook" that flows continually. "When the water flows, it is in different light. Each modulation puts the brook in a different light, but not in a different speed." So when interpreting this beautiful piece, you have to "change the light and the shadow with the tone color." I found this very inspiring.
