now THAT is REALITY TV!!! Finally someone shows how we feel when we have to go through cities and you have no clue when to switch lanes, how tight the routes can be, etc. Stressful , for sure! You guys did great and amazingly no cussing ( city driving brings out the worst in me)!
I am a lifelong NYer, and I laughed so hard at this video. Especially when Bob ran the redlight. Everyone runs lights here. Lights are merely suggestions on how to proceed. I found it hilarious when you were driving through the Bronx. Y'all were just a few blocks from my house. lol
I laughed along with you, as I just completed my own Class B (Storyteller) trip across/through New York City. Though I grew up within sight of the NYC skyline on Long Island, I never spent any time driving there. My recent trip was to the Intrepid Museum, the Seinfeld restaurant (Tom's) plus NY pizza and a sidewalk hotdog. Like you, I had to make several loops due to missed turns, had near scrapes with other cars, traffic jams, narrow lanes, construction, tunnels, cops yelling at me and more. The night before I stayed in a free park in NJ, the night after I stayed in a marina parking lot out on Long Island. All in all, I enjoyed your video as it captured the frustration of non-New Yorkers driving in NYC! A month after I got home to Texas, a ticket arrived in the mail - a traffic cam caught me in a Bus Lane.
I really enjoy your videos, however im glad you made it through NYC unscathed.I had to challenge rude Drivers in NYC for nearly 30 years when i was a FDNY EMT attempting to make it to a 911 emergency.Safe travels always!!
Yes, and people barely pull over for emergency vehicles trying to get through. They act like it’s such an inconvenience. It’s amazing. I drove in and out of New York City for many many years. That was pretty courageous of you to. I’ve never been there and decided to drive in With a big vehicle.
At 6:45 in the video, Show New York! I know what y’all look like…😉 Great driving job Bob! Hillary, great passenger nerves! I proud of both of y’all! 👍😃
Welcome to my hell!! I live on Long Island and have to travel through the City for any trip we take. Your quote of "patient but aggressive" driving is exactly how you have to handle it. If you don't push yourself in you will never merge!!! Believe me, you definitely get used to it. I only have a B van and could not imagine doing some of the crazy streets of the city in anything bigger. Shame you didn't have a chance to explore Long Island - beautiful place - especially out east. Safe travels!
Good job getting there! I was there once at night alone and no GPS, that was no fun at all to navigate! I'm glad that you enjoyed it and that nighttime view of the city lights was pretty awesome! Safe travels!
Good for you guys for dealing with the stress of driving around New York with patience and humor! Usually tourist videos make me cringe but you guys showed actual joy seeing sights that are very familiar to me. Yep. Driving in NYC is challenging. Driving is slow. Lots of delays because of construction, street closures and other obstacles. Drivers are aggressive and a little scary. But you guys did it! Glad you enjoyed your trip!
That was fun to watch! Even though we've been RVing for 35 years, we haven't had an RV in NYC. We did take our cruising boat through there, and spent a week at Liberty Landing, across the Hudson River, in New Jersey (they had an RV park there, as well). We took a water taxi each day to Manhattan, took in a Broadway show, ate a bunch of New York pizza, toured around Times Square, walked through Central Park, went to Rockefeller Plaza and watched them doing the Today Show, Took a tour of the NBC facilities, ate in delis, took the subway to get around, caught a taxi a few times, and walked a LOT. Toured the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. From there, it was up the Hudson River and on to the Erie Canal. We had a spectacular view of the NYC skyline (photo from our boat) each night. We were from south Texas at the time, so it was quite a bit of culture shock experiencing life in "the big city." Watching your video brought all that back. (Big Smiles). Thanks! (Captain Jim & the Blonde)
@@Vancaskeys I thoroughly enjoyed your video. Although I did feel my hind-end pucker up a time or two with that driving in the big city stuff! We live in the Phoenix area, too, and this is more than enough traffic for me. Have fun!
We love NYC, we love the pizza, can't wait to see more of your adventures ! ... "Welcome to New York, it's been waitin' for you Welcome to New York, welcome to New York" ...
Glad to see you made to NYC! As I said in your previous video if you can drive that van here you can drive anywhere! Using the truck route was a smart move for being here for the first time. I'm glad you made it through the stress you adapted very well. Also there is a different RV park that is closer to the water that you should look into if your are thinking of ever visiting again. Great video thanks for sharing!
: ) WOW and KUDOS for doing this and sharing! OMG as it reminds me of driving a Rental Car to NYC to find an Italian Restaurant way back in the day with NO GPS or Phone, just old Paper Maps! Same as you discovered, patience and Agressive at the same time to navigate. Came in from Long Island where I was at a class for over a month, and it WAS an Adventure for sure! All the BEST and WELL DONE indeed ! Cheers : )
Wow....Just reinforces the utility of Class B's. Last year we drove through NYC like you two. We so loved being able to parallel park in l Brooklyn. You guys are the best.
I’ve driven in Manhattan a handful of times. Every day is “make your own lane day.” A local told me that lanes were mostly just a suggestion. Once I adopted that mindset, some of the stress of driving in NYC went away. (Not all, just some.)
Love your videos. It's CRAZY CRAZY driving in NYC - you did extremely well! I was born and raised in NYC. Lived there through my 20's. Have not been back there since. For the last 50 years I have lived in NH where life is sane. Can't imagine even visiting NYC. Kudos to you for extreme bravery while driving!
Great job traveling in NYC. I live 1 hour east of NYC on Long Island and worked 4 out of the 5 boroughs of NYC. I can totally understand how stressful it is and was for you guys navigating through NYC. I drive my Winnebago Revel through NYC almost every weekend for camping, but I know the roads and the restrictions of a class B RV. Great video as always. Travel on dudes!
This video made me laugh so much! It's your Welcome To The Real New York moment. Bob, you handled it like a Pro! I feel your pain driving while trying to follow a GPS that really has no idea which way to go. I've had the "pleasure" of driving a tractor trailer on those streets for 6 years. When you couldn't turn where you wanted because of construction it reminded me of a similar situation I had in Brooklyn. The GPS wouldn't adjust and basically said You Can't Get There From Here! All you can do is chuckle and pray. And then drive like a New Yorker.
We will be in NYC in 2 weeks. Not driving an RV though. Bob, I'm impressed. You are such a calm driver. Or you did a lot of editing. Haha, I love you guys. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Fantastic! I’m in Nova Scotia and planning a big trip down to eastern seaboard in a year or so and was wondering about visiting New York. This is so helpful, thank you so much!
Im in NY too. Out on the Island and lived in Brooklyn. This video had me cracking up!!! I actually paused it, grabbed my ice cream. a drink, and started it over!!! This is a classic comedy! Lol! You guys are hysterical. Safe travels and you have a new subscriber now!! ❤
@Vancaskeys I watched it 3x and still cracks me up!!!! Thanks for the laughs. You both Rock. Next time you have to come out on the Island to Montauk Point and backbto NYC. 😊😊😊😊 Stay safe ❤
Subscribed..loved your energy as a couple. She's really super expressive and he's like ..that chill guy haha Also he's complaining about all the stuff I complain about and I've been here all my life. You can't even tell which lane you're in, people being allowed to just pull over on the fringe of traffic at a random location and stop traffic, rude drivers cutting people off on off ramps...ty for confirming that I'm actually not insane and all these other people are..
Really fun video. Yes, New York traffic is rough. I enjoyed this trip. You two have such good attitudes. The rv park is a parking lot. But it is safe and convenient.
I am a retired bus/otr truck driver. Fortunate enough to never driven truck in NYC, but did, twice, spend a week driving a bus full of hjgh school kids around NYC. First trip I was a driver in bus 2 of 3. Bus 1 was driven by the most senior drivers on the trip who got us lost every day. And in true management fashion, bus 3 was the one with built in Garmin dezl GPS. You put in how tall, wide, and long your vehicle is and it finds the best route. Second trip I had purchased a Garmin deezl for my semi and brought it with. I never intend on going to NYC again, but if I do, I still have my Garmin. Best investment a professional or rv driver can make.
It's my first time seeing your channel. We have never been to NYC either, but we are looking forward to exploring it too. We drive a Class A, so Liberty Harbor rv in New Jersy is where we plan to stay, then take the ferry across to the city. Safe travels you guys and thanks for such an exciting video.
@Vancaskeys Well, we had plans to go this Thanksgiving, but we were scared off by the reports of immigrants causing issues. Also, the weather turned out to be pretty bad. We will try again next year. I want to see the Macy's Day parade.
You guys never cease to entertain and amaze! 👍🏼❤️ You reminded me of so many times taking friends into the city who had never been. An experience so familiar to me was reimagined through their expressions, similar to yours. There's no other place on earth quite like NYC, especially the Manhattan Borough. Running a red light is a rite of passage, Bob. You may regret it, but you're one of us now. 😂😂😂 Keep chasing freedom you guys! We'll follow.
I took my clase into New York during Christmas. It was stressful, but it was fantastic. I stayed right in Staten Island and took a ferry over to Manhattan. Same kind of a parking space that you have just a piece of concrete and an electrical hook up but I only paid like $52. Glad you’re having a good time.
Our Tucsonian son got a full scholarship to Fordham University in the Bronx. Oh what an adventure that was😮 Somehow, he made it through college and still lives there. I don't really see the draw but he loves it for some unknown reason😊 The first semester was the hardest and he was horribly sick most of the time. We really enjoyed your speed trip across the country! Take care.
That was interesting. I would not want to try that, but it was fun watching you guys do it. 😅 I was surprised at how clean the city looked. You had nice weather, it looked like. Good luck getting out! Just kidding! Safe travels folks!❤❤
Ny is my home (you will notice i always have a NY yankee hat on) . you just have to cut into the spot. They would rather you slide in quick the wait for you. Glad you got to enjoy it. You may get a piece of mail if there are cameras. Totally normal to drive wherever. It’s pretty anxiety driven to drive in NYC. You did good. Doesnt look like your in the city. Looks more like the boroughs oh you said queens. i was born in queens.yeah totally fine to just go back through lanes haha . Ok now your going to manhattan I see. Wow tight space. Ny is like that. And that is why we live in charleston sc!
This is one of the best. The look on Bob's face when he ran that red light, soooo intense. I couldn't help but laugh. I have never been to NYC but I know exactly how he felt my couple of times going through downtown Atlanta. His commentary throughout was hilarious. 😂 That bridge was scary as hell! You did great the entire time, Bob Good job! 🏆
Just drove a 25' U-Haul, picked it up in the Bronx, drove to Queens, loaded it up and drove out of the city onto 95N. Yes, that is some harrowing driving on tight streets.
After watching, this seems like so much work and stress. Thinking it might be better to use my $100 grand and drive or fly and stay in decent hotels all over the world. Think i can enjoy and see a lot of new places for $100K. Safer and less stress and probably more fun. I understand the RV life but the more i see these Vids and compare the cost, traveling without an RV just seems safer, cleaner, just as fun and all around easier. Can probably see more places as well....like Europe or the Caribbean.
I can’t watch🫣. I went to college in NYC, and drove a yellow taxicab at night working my way through school. It was like Combat Conditions. I would never recommend Anyone take their RV there! I was mugged three times in a year. I will never go back!!! Actually, your video is a hoot! Glad you made it through !
Yeah ..not sure my husband will want to drive the van in NYC - yikes. Looks like a great day and navigated returning to the van after dark ... you two are courageous! Enjoyed the Video!!
@18:20 after all of the crazy sights along your NYC commuter experience, I was 100% sure I was looking at an adult *Black Panther* being walked about the neighborhood there..
we took our TT and almost took our aircondioner off the roof. missed a turn and we went in the bronx clearance was 10 foot 1 ins we are 10.7 we just made it ... :)
I live about three hours north west of NYC in the Catskills… so, I’ve had to drive to NYC more times than I care for … mostly to catch the flights out of JFK. The traffic is horrific and you represented it very well. The intensity on his face is what I’m usually doing as well . We’ve had to park our car in caged lots in some of the worst neighborhoods to avoid paying the fees for parking at JFK. It’s actually pretty safe but gosh it doesn’t feel that way when you get there. It’s very stressful and you guys pulled it off like NYC pros. Having a great navigator is always helpful… my daughter is mine and she knows when to leave me to it and when to lighten the mood a bit for me to let that pressure off a bit. I was worried the photos were not going to be accurate but was glad to see you just got out there and walked around!!! It really is the big apple!!
I am a Class A owner. I live 50 miles west of Times Square. I would not even think of taking my RV to NYC! You get an A for bravery. There is a campground on the NJ with views of the statute of liberty in Jersey City. I think it probably is easier to get to by RV. An RV park is located in my town right off of I 80 but it is 50 miles out so you would need a car rental. One truck GPS would be easier.
You guys were in my neck of the woods. Live in upstate NY near Albany. It is easy to drive up here just do the opposite of everything you were taught. Bob in some places red lights are just options lol.
In Oct in my first van trip to the NE, I was driving from CT to Pennsylvania and intended to drive “past” NYC; with a 18’ class B. I had to backtrack 5-6 times because Goggle kept directing me onto “passenger car” only routes & bridges in its attempt to avoid traffic. I ended up on Manhattan in search of a path off the Island. In the end, I just decided to follow semi-trucks as long as they were heading Westward. I will have to look up the truck route app for my next trip here, Thanks for sharing!
Welcome to NYC - LOL you guys did a great job for 1st timer. 1:17 correct follow truck route & never take parkway's / FDR Dr / West side Hwy etc only for commercial veh's w/ weight + height restrictions, since you have a van rv & no commercial plates you are allow to drive just like a passenger car. you could have took FDR south to the Koch aka Queensboro Br so 7:18 could have made any left & next right same as 3rd ave you just did. 10:24 wife was right 2nd ave on left side > see long bus merging in on left > that could've been you if you made the 2-3 left & right I just mention. 10:37 CUT them new Yorkers off yes you be fine! LOL 11:15 beige wall was decommission NYCT bus parking lot & after you make this corner right " not on video " on left is decommission bus depot I worked bus operator 94 - 2005. 11:31common accident spot for tractor trailer 1st time nyc due to cars cutting them off on their right at the bike lanes. I drove 2nd ave Bus for 26years before retiring. you guys can drive rest of 49 states w/ confidence now LOL after NYC.😜great sense of humor help! you drove defensive + excellent driver cheers🍺🍺🍺
We live about 2 hours from the city and have driven into the city a few times. It’s stressful but the city is amazing to walk around. Next time. Come around Christmas as 5th avenue is amazing at Christmas time.
Don’t worry about going through red lights..it’s NY..everyone does! You are very brave to drive in NYC..I preferred to take the train when I was living in NJ because traffic is a nightmare..even taking cabs or Ubers in NY scared me because of the crazy drivers! 🤣
I've made that turn onto the 3rd Ave Bridge countless times, and I've been bamboozled for the majority of those times. I live in NYC about a mile from this scene. Robert in NYC.
I used to live in Connecticut and while you can drive in New York, we would generally take the train to save time and money on parking. I also have lived in Chicago and Seattle and they both have fierce traffic and luckily my commute has always been out of the main gridlock times. I took my truck and trailer into a neighborhood gas station in a city with some close confines once, which is why I have a class c that is 20 feet long.
Lmao I’ve been giggling for twenty minutes. Sorry, native NYr here, born and raised and watching people’s reactions as they first enter “the city” is always fun. Driving here can be such a shit show lol. A few things… you were technically in NYC the minute you entered Staten Island. It’s one of the 5 boroughs tho we don’t claim it much lol. 2) we don’t call manhattan downtown. It’s just “the city”. Even though NYC is Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, Staten Island and Manhattan, when you say the city, everyone knows you meet manhattan. 3) that route was crazy! I get why you took it, but with your van it wasn’t necessary lol. That route took you all the way round jacks barn ( as my granny would say). You ended up in Queens ( my neck of the woods) when you probably could have taken the Manhattan bridge into Brooklyn, then to Atlantic Ave, then off to the RV park. Your van is still a van and you would have been fine anywhere a large SUV can travel. I will say you guys kept it classy the entire time! Traffic here is thee worst but you two are troopers. So many one ways! So many new traffic patterns! You had your National Lampoons Big Ben moment and I was rooting for you!! Next time visit Long Island! Way more open roads. More RV parks and you can take the Long Island Rail Road into the city and catch a show.
Was just in the big Apple. My home state and home town of Brooklyn. Love to visit. The convenience of Liberty Street RV Park is awesome and I think you should have stayed there as a first time visiter to NYC. It also has an amazing view of NYC because it's in Liberty state park, NJ across the water. I have never stayed at Skyline. FYI i just follow the NO Parkways methodology when in the RV around NYC. Stick to highways, expressways, turnpikes etc.
Come on now, Bob…NYC traffic is no different than Phoenix rush hour on the 10! 😂😵💫🫣 Those NY streets are very tight! No way am I driving there…ever! 😆😜 You and Hillary are two brave souls and I’m so proud of you! 👏👏👏
That kind of driving is normal there. Just need to add horn blowing and hand gestures! 🤣🤣🤣 Same applies to LA. and here in Chicago too. 🤣 Didn’t know you were actually staying the night in NY. Thanks. That was funny 🤣 I also didn’t know about that RV parking! Good to know! 👍
This video is the best; commentaries, humor, scenery...everything was great! Keep traveling!!
Thank you!!!!!😊

Did you park in Manhattan one night? Haven’t lived there for 15 years and wondering if all the free parking is gone?
Pro tip. Only use one form of navigation if you don't want to go off your rocker.
😂😂😂 good tip!
The excitement from seeing the skyline for the first time is so relatable!🙌🏻
😊 so cool right!!!

Impressive guys!
Thanks!😊
It's my first time seeing your channel. We have never been to NYC either, but we are looking forward to exploring it too. We drive a Class A, so Liberty Harbor rv in New Jersy is where we plan to stay, then take the ferry across to the city. Safe travels you guys and thanks for such an exciting video.
Oh I’m so excited for you! It was such a great experience. Have so much fun!!! We want to stay at that RV Park next time.
@Vancaskeys
Well, we had plans to go this Thanksgiving, but we were scared off by the reports of immigrants causing issues. Also, the weather turned out to be pretty bad. We will try again next year. I want to see the Macy's Day parade.
Years ago, I drove a semi into Brooklyn every Monday morning!
Oh wow! 😮
Heck Yeah you guys! Awesome!!!
Thanks!
Literally on the edge of my seat watching right now! This brings back memories of driving in Chicago 😊
I totally agree. It is a whole different mindset driving in big cities!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
In NY NY once. All I can say- wear most comfortable supportive shoes for miles of walking
Agree! Our feet hurt so bad after walking 10 miles in one day!
Keep chasing freedom you guys! We'll follow.
Thanks Joe!!!! It was one of our favorite places on the trip!
You guys are so funny! Good thing Bob took his patience pills! 😂😂
Hahaha! Right!!!😂
You guys driving on the east coast is comedy gold. BTW, It's called the The City.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Those driving in New York scenes were hilarious. That could be a whole series driving the van in downtown big cities 🤣
Bahahaha! True! 😂
Wow guys. We have been in this situation in cities. I think you guys do a lot better than us haha
Great deal!! Wow~
Take care.
So awesome!!!
That was interesting. I would not want to try that, but it was fun watching you guys do it. 😅 I was surprised at how clean the city looked. You had nice weather, it looked like. Good luck getting out! Just kidding! Safe travels folks!❤❤
Yeah it was amazing!
great video. you all are so good. thank you. have a blessed day.
We appreciate you! 😊
Bob,You are an excellent Driver,If you can drive in New York City, you can drive anywhere.
Thanks! I appreciate that.
LOL - Yeah, I got a "piece of mail" from NYC - one that had a nice picture of my van in a bus lane. :-(
This is one of the best.
Lets go!!!
👏👏👏🥳
I took my class A over the George Washington bridge once it took over an hour plus the toll was 75.00 bucks. Never again.
Omg this had me ROFL…I can’t drive into the city in my car because of anxiety, can’t imagine doing it in my class B! You guys are so brave!
It was a little crazy but fun! 😂
Thanks for great video. I just moved back from Manhattan and I had no idea this existed!! Strong work 👍🚙🌞🌇🌃
Glad you liked it! 👍
Good job 👏👍. I use to drive big trucks up there it’s fun once u know all the routes lol 😝
It really is! 🤣
You guys took the most insane route for no reason
I think you are right 😂
Yet again, watching you guys on my flight to Phoenix 😂
No way!!! That’s so cool!
Nice you made looking !!!! Had me nervous 😊
😂😂😂
NYC is one of my favorite places to go. But I did have a local driver so you did good Bob
Oh wow!!!!
Wow we are going to New York State next July and not sure about the city ? You did help a bit 😆 thanks
Awesome 💯
Do ya WANNA play chicken??!! 😂😂. You fit right in up here….
😂😂😂
We live about 2 hours from the city and have driven into the city a few times. It’s stressful but the city is amazing to walk around. Next time. Come around Christmas as 5th avenue is amazing at Christmas time.
Don’t worry about going through red lights..it’s NY..everyone does! You are very brave to drive in NYC..I preferred to take the train when I was living in NJ because traffic is a nightmare..even taking cabs or Ubers in NY scared me because of the crazy drivers! 🤣
😂😂😂 hadn’t thought of it that way!
I've made that turn onto the 3rd Ave Bridge countless times, and I've been bamboozled for the majority of those times. I live in NYC about a mile from this scene. Robert in NYC.
So cool you live here!
Welcome to New York! Be carefully you pass red light lol Lucky you there no cop ! You should drive to Astoria queens here!! Where i live
Thanks for all of this! Such great info!
Hahahaha! Thank you!
BTW for future reference Floyd Bennet field at Gateway Nat'l Park in Brooklyn allows RV overnight approx 30 miles from LIC where you were.
Glad it went well
Like your south haven, Michigan shirt
I’m up in Grand Rapids
Very cool! Bob is from Kalamazoo. We went to South Haven this summer! Loved it!
@ very cool
Crazy idea to go to New York city!! hahaha!!
😂😂😂
That kind of driving is normal there. Just need to add horn blowing and hand gestures! 🤣🤣🤣 Same applies to LA. and here in Chicago too. 🤣 Didn’t know you were actually staying the night in NY. Thanks. That was funny 🤣
I also didn’t know about that RV parking! Good to know! 👍
O no you got pop the wheelie drit bike o yea full experience of ny traffic i been during that driving 40 years still crazy
Really!? NY traffic is no joke!
Great video, as always! Dont know that i have the guts to drive in New York, tho!
