Thanks so much for the informative video. I'm a bit of a newbie archer, and I was about to give up because the string kept slapping my wrist and it was just hard to shoot in general. I checked my brace height, and it was only 5"!!! It is supposed to be 8.25" for this bow, so I went ahead and raised it... now it shoots like a dream, love it!
Thanks for the video John, I just ordered a flemish twist FF string and was lost as to how I would find my brace height so I could nock it. Your video explained it perfectly!
Wow. Wow... Thank you so very much for this video, sir. The information was so clear and answered the question that's been bugging me. Thanks again and have a wonderful new year :)
John - Thanks for the informative video that you have put together. I just bought a Samick (Sage) @55 Lb and I'm planning to shoot off the plastic rest. Since the rest will be slightly above the shelf and once I have the rest squared with the string, how high should I mount the knock point above the arrow knock? Also, since shooting from the rest, this would not be the true center of the overall string length therefore what kind of effect would this have on the arrow flight? Thanks,
Usually about 1/2" above shelf or rest, whatever you are using. It does depend on your shooting style. That is the usual measurement. You will have to maybe play around with what works best. Your arrow should angle slightly downward to point. If arrow porpoises, you will have to adjust.
Thanks for this video. I've been shooting my recurve bow wrong. Only had it for a 2 days. I set my arrow above the knocking point when I was shooting. Oops. Maybe now I'll be more accurate lol. I was doing good for doing it wrong.
good info- TU. as you twist and shorten the string doesn't that nocking point change? it seems unless you can set the brace height to exact same height every time the nocking point becomes more of a nuisance.
I recently purchased a 45lb samick sage and draw between 28 3/4 to 29 inches. I use a fast flight string. What spine for 11/32 diameter POC arrows would you recommend? My arrows are usually cut to 29.5 with 125gr field points added and are spined 50-55. Reason I ask is some ppl say with fast flight strings you need to add up to 15lbs more spine than normal. While others say it is not necessary. I always welcome others thoughts on the subject.
That would be close, they may be slightly weak of spine. If they fly well for you then fine! Adding spine depends on the bow. Some bows (ex. Black Widow) needs more spine, other bows do not. You can always call us to discuss what would be best for you.
Get a bow square. I went 8 1/2" on the first string, now I'm at 8" but the samick sage is a 28" max draw and my draw length is 28". So I'm going to put Samick journey limbs on my sage riser and make for a more comfortable draw.

Thank you explaining brace heights and nocking points, very helpful video for beginners.
I need to watch these videos when I'm down at the range. So many things that need tuning!
Tuning a bow properly can make a huge difference in accuracy.
Thank you for posting this, I wasn't quite sure how to measure.
Thanks so much for the informative video.

Glad the information helped you out!
Thanks for the video John.
Thanks for this video!
Manufacturer recommended brace height: 7½" - 8½". Replacement string length of 58" recommended for Samick Sage.

So glad our video was helpful to you and answered your question!! Happy New Year to you as well.
Thank you for this vid - it really helped me out!
Just shows how important brace height is. Many archers do not know about brace height and it creates some problems, that are simply solved!!

it seems unless you can set the brace height to exact same height every time the nocking point becomes more of a nuisance.
It will change slightly, unless your brace height was way out of measure.

A person with a 28" draw can still shoot a Sage. The Journey being a 64" bow is better for people with 29" draw and above.
Does changing the brace height alter the nocking point at all?
depends on how much you adjust. If a few twists, you may not need to. If you are still getting good arrow flight, then you are ok.
What is Twig Archery phone number to order bows/parts.
