Thank you this was a really good well put together video. It shows intellect compare contrast abs covered the basis only thing I missed was weather and bugs lol. Blessings to you!
I've been to both cities and they're both great places. I was really surprised about how navigable Charlotte was. The population size seems intimidating but it's very clean and easy to drive in. It actually feels a lot smaller than it is, but with all the big city amenities.
Charlotte was pretty easy to get around. Living in Texas, I would definitely compare Raleigh/Charlotte to Austin/Dallas. Charlotte is like a much smaller Dallas as far as the feel goes. Raleigh is definitely comparable to Austin. Both are great, but pretty different dynamics.
I used to live in Charlotte and go there to visit from time to time. What I have found in Charlotte is that the middle class seem to be being squeezed out of existence. If I had a lot of money, Charlotte would be nice. If I had a middle class or below budget, I would look elsewhere.
I'm in Minnesota, you can't find a small apartment within 30 miles of the twin cities for less than $1,600 a month. The liberals want a 2 class system.
As someone from Raleigh (Cary/Apex) who has lived in the greater Charlotte are for the past 5 years, I MUCH prefer the overall feel of Raleigh. Charlotte definitely has its perks, like more public transportation, the bigger city feel, and being closer to the mountains, but the different neighborhoods and parts of the city feel VERY separated, whereas in Raleigh you flow from one neighborhood to the next with relative ease. Raleigh, in my opinion, has a lot more to do in its downtown (museums, shops, food) whereas in Charlotte, the downtown (uptown) is primarily banks and high-rise apartments. Raleigh also has a lot more universities than Charlotte does, which creates for a better public school system. Overall both cities are great in their own ways and different people like both cities for different reasons. Raleigh is very much home to me, so I am definitely a little biased.
Mecklenburg County residents have paid high property taxes for years so that Raleigh could have nice roads. I have no interest in living in any city, but I prefer the Piedmont with rolling hills and the country outside the CLT area. Since CLT became a Democrat run city, taxes and crime have just increased badly. But that’s what happens.
I'm in Atlanta and I've visited North Carolina and I kinda sorta wanna move! Atlanta is not the same as it used to be. It's worse. Charlotte is a good move I'd think. Thanks for your videos!
I lived in Atlanta for years and visited Charlotte often. Charlotte is clean, friendlier, and calmer. I love it there. Definitely moving there this year. Shhhhhh. don't tell the Atlanta residents about Charlotte though. lol
Im in Atlanta and I feel the exact same way 😩 I went to Raleigh for Dreamville fest and now I kinda sorta want to move too lol. I live in GA, but NC has been on my mind heavy
Recently had to move for work and had a few cities to choose from, I ended up choosing Raleigh after viewing a lot of your videos and I’m loving it so much. Thanks for the work you do, appreciate ya.
I've lived in both and I can say both are great places to live. When i live in Raleigh, the trails around Lake Wheeler were in my back yard which was great and the city as a whole was younger. As some one that's grown up in the Charlotte area the city used to be more affordable however if you have a great job there is no shortage of things to do or places to go. In the last several years our breweries vineyards and even cidery have exploded.
I’ve lived in both. My issue with Raleigh is that their downtown area and close surrounding areas are filthy and run-down. Also, their highways have a ton of trash alongside them. Charlotte, on the other hand, is a pristine city. I don’t know if there is a cleaner downtown, or “uptown” area in America.
I've lived here since '07 and I agree even some dirtier parts of NYC are cleaner than our dirty areas. This might also be because Charlotte is larger and more centralized so have more cleaners and taxes
Dude what alter reality are y’all living in Charlotte is a dump and there’s trash everywhere I’ve never been so where do dirty there’s trash everywhere on the side of the highways and they make you pay an extra 200 on your car registration when you move there which is supposed to hago toward cleaning up highways which the dirty politicians obviously pocket. Stop lying y’all
Thank you so much for this video! I live in Ohio, but am in North Carolina for the summer, and am looking at potential internships here in NC for the fall, especially in those cities. As a blind person, transportation is a must, so I'm honestly not quite sure which one I'll choose, probably Charlotte, but I don't know at this point. Thanks again for this awesome video!
@@rileyfarrell1966 I’m a college student IN North Carolina and tbh I feel like Oregon sounds way cooler in terms of the young scene. Depends on what you care about but there’s nothing really special about NC. I like it because the weather is great and it’s warm, but it’s really not all that great compared to some cool beachy area in Florida or something like that. Or Austin texas idk. Totally depends on what you value but the bigger cities in NC are just starting to really take off, so it’s a lot of suburban sprawl and there’s not nearly as much cool stuff to do compared to say, Portland or Seattle or something. The weather in NC is better but what are you actually looking for
And yet Raleigh is consistently ranked higher than Charlotte on the "best places to live in the U.S." lists for the past several years. I grew up in Salisbury near Charlotte, but have lived in the Raleigh area for the last 10 years. Both areas are great. Sure, maybe Charlotte is "ahead" in having a light rail system, which I actually view as a negative because I have zero interest in riding on public transportation. What "fields" are you referring to? For me, the better thing about the Raleigh area is the much better college sports scene and "college town vibe" (energy from young people, etc) from the 3 major colleges in the area.
I'm an agent in Charlotte and LOVE this video! Great content. I used to live in Raleigh back in the day. I do miss the closeness to the beach. Used to take day trips to Wrightsville to surf ;)
Ahh I can’t wait to move to Raleigh! But since love the sound of Charlotte too. It’ll definitely be on my list for weekend getaway locations once I move!
@@LivinginRaleighTV Hi😊 is it possible to do a video about moving to the outskirts of the big cities….Charlotte, Raleigh etc it would be very appreciated
I love the metropolitan area population estimates because people go for just the city’s population alone without considering the suburbs of an area. Still find it strange that they never combined Raleigh MSA and Durham MSA and love how this video does because it makes no sense to not put Raleigh and Durham in the same MSA. Great video!
It kills me how Raleigh tries desperately to convince the world that Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill should be viewed as one big city. I've lived in Raleigh and Durham, my brother attended UNC in Chapel Hill and they are NOT one big city. There is a very distinct separation in the drive/distance between each city/town. Hell Durham and Chapel Hill have their own downtown areas...not to mention city management and/or city counsel. lol
I completely agree with you that Raleigh and Durham are in the same metro. To not do so is to not understand how interconnected these areas are geographically, economically, and demographically.
@@stardust0813when did you live there though? These cities have never stopped growing. You can drive from Holly Springs to Apex to Cary to Morrisville to Durham or Raleigh without any significant gaps between cities.
Also overlooked Concord Mills in Concord (Charlotte metro), which is the largest shopping mall in the state, by far, and a huge tourist draw. Also Carolina Place Mall and Northlake Mall in Charlotte. It's not just Southpark for mall shopping. I didn't notice your screen name before but watching the video I thought this guy is definitely from Raleigh.
I would choose Charlotte over Raleigh/Durham, as a city and as a metro area. I have been ranking American metro areas, small towns, and retirement areas for 36 years. I am VERY familiar with both the Charlotte, NC (SC) metro area and the Raleigh/Durham metro areas. Both are excellent metro areas in which to live and rank in the top 25% of metro areas in my 2020 rankings. Raleigh/Durham is better in college availability (#1 in the nation when taking population into consideration) and, (though Charlotte does well in healthcare) RDU does better in the number of healthcare options. These are really the only clear advantages than Raleigh/Durham have. Both metro areas have great outdoor recreational assets, friendly residents, strong economies, great 4-season climates, Clean/green/flora, and have good Buying Power (cost of living vs. income). After that, Charlotte has the advantage. Though both metro areas are still affordable, Charlotte has a marked advantage. Charlotte's Buying Power is 12.41% better than the national average and Raleigh/Durham's is 1.36% worse than the national average. Raleigh'Durham's rate if increase is growing faster, so that's not good for them looking into the future. Charlotte's transportation is better overall. Raleigh/Durham has a better freeway network (not unusual for a state capital). But Charlotte's airport is far more superior and they have a light rail network and downtown trolley system that are impressive. Where Charlotte has a huge advantage is unique recreational assets (ie recreational assets that most metro areas do not have). Every metro area in the nation (240 of them) has parks, greenways, some form of lakes/rivers, museums. etc. to varying degrees. The only truly unique recreational assets that Raleigh/Durham has is an NHL Hockey team. Charlotte has NFL/NBA/MLS/NASCAR, a major theme park, two major water parks, and the U.S. National Whtewater Center (the only one of its kind and size in the World). Raleigh/Durham just can't come close to Charlotte in terms of unique recreational assets. Though I do like and respect both areas, my choice is clearly Charlotte. It just offers me more at a lower cost.
As far as "unique recreational assets" and the sports scene, I think both are great and actually about equal, considering that the college sports scene in the Raleigh area is so much better. I don't know the stats on this, but I bet that college sports are more followed than pro sorts in the United States. And for me personally, I care WAY more about college sports, and actually don't follow pro sports at all. As an NC State fan living in the Raleigh area, I can travel to dozens of college sporting events almost year round, with the bonus that many NC State games also take place in nearby Chapel Hill and at Duke. And I'm not just talking about football and basketball, but a wide range of sports (more than just "the big 4" or 5 pro sports) -- but the ability to see dozens of high level college matches in tennis, wrestling, volleyball, soccer, etc. And in any given year, you are likely to have the ACC Championships in several sports hosted at a site in the Raleigh Area. The ACC tennis championships have been and will be in Cary for the last few years, and the ACC wrestling championships were at NC State last year and will be at UNC this year, for example.
Id highly doubt buying power is greater in charlotte. That’s just cost of living without considering income. The cost of living index in charlotte-concord NC metro according to bestplaces is 98.8, Raleigh-cary metro is 101.2, But according to the St.Louis Federal Bank, the per capita income in charlotte is 62,056 as of 2021 while raleigh is 66,428 dollars as of 2021, so raleigh is only 2.4% more expensive but you earn 7% more money, so I’d say the buying power is 4.5% greater in the Raleigh-cary Metropolitan area. Raleigh is way better for families i’d say while charlotte is better for single adults, however I think most single adults in the south would be in atlanta.
Even when considering median household income, according to Data USA the median household income for the Charlotte-Concord metro is 69,559 USD as of 2021 while Raleigh-cary metro was 83,581 USD, Median household income is 20.1% more in raleigh metro while cost of living is only 2.4% more when including HOUSING. So for median household income buying power is 17.3% more in raleigh However if you’re concerned about buying power, the midwest is the best for that, Indianapolis, Chicago, Cincinnati, Omaha NE, Minneapolis I think have the highest buying power in the country.
Good video....I live in Raleigh and work in RTP so the traffic is insane. Lots of activities here and so many food places. I have never been to Charlotte though.
He throws 3 cities at Charlotte. It's only people in Raleigh that think they are comparable. To me Charlotte is waaaaay better you feel like your in a big city. Raleigh feels like a regular Ole town, had he compared Raleigh proper vs Charlotte proper it would be no comparison.
@@pdaddy879 Raleigh and the triangle is growing faster than Charlotte and has a higher per capita income than Charlotte. Quality over quantity all day. Otherwise it’s like saying Detroit is “waaaay” better than Charlotte because it’s bigger lol
Please create a video for retirees considering moving to NC. I'm interested in hearing about healthcare, taxes, and amenities for the aging in Raleigh, Charlotte or Ashville. Thanks!
Charlotte feels like a city if you like that avoid the west side do your research on crime there neighborhoods were there multiple shootings some weeks
@@ellapresley8634 Excellent medical care in Charlotte and surrounding suburb of Matthews. Many fine specialists. Raleigh has the Duke university center and has many world-class physicians. No problem in either place of doctors, dentists, urgent care, vets (kitty and doggie need meds too!) optomotrists, pharmacies, bloodwork etc. etc. etc. Your car will need 'health care' too and there are many highly rated garages. Traffic is insane in Charlotte 24 hours a day.
Thank you. We stopped putting in chapters because people skip through and miss valuable information and then tell us everything we "forgot" that was actually in the video lol.
I'm being recruited for a job in NC. I'm from Minnesota. I like that your cities aren't too large. Minneapolis saint Paul is basically Charlotte and Raleigh combined, and it's a mess.
You must be referring to the metro size because I saw just a few years ago where Raleigh city population surpassed Minneapolis city population. I am still perplexed as to why the Raleigh metro does not include Durham. All these other cities include 4 and 5 cities and Raleigh is just Raleigh and Cary? Durham is always included with Raleigh and is just down the road. Makes no sense to me.
Good video with lots of facts and not just throwing mud. Charlotte has a "Can Do" attitude, which the Triangle doesn't have, due to fractured nature of all the different cities and towns. Charlotte has the support of all the major national banks and other headquartered companies to make the city bigger and better with amenities. If Charlotte wants something, the city makes it happen. Light rail, downtown arena, sports teams (NFL, NBA, MLS in 2022, AAA Baseball downtown), museums, etc. The video mentions Carowinds, which is great to have near Charlotte. I believe that the Raleigh Metro area is one of the largest areas in the country that doesn't have an amusement park within 100 miles.
Hello! Hi I'm graduating college in May (Oregon College) and trying to figure out my next steps. This video really helped get some serious notes down and consider some things I hadn't thought about yet. You really covered a lot of bases I appreciated:) If you do any videos for college students/ graduating college students (anything like life advice and such) let me know! Thanks!
Hey Riley, you state an Oregon college graduation. Congrats !!!! I lived in Oregon for 26 years and will request you stay put. Multnomah county is gonna need some sharp people to square that place away. I was hoping today's portland youth will see the problems and correct it. Protests won't get it done. Getting into gov't and govern to make changes. Just some ideas . U of O has a great law school as you know. Good luck Riley. Above all enjoy life and have fun with everything you do.
I personally like Raleigh / Durham better because everything is 40 mins and you’re in another city. Raleigh 20 mins from Durham 45 mins from Greensboro , Greensboro 30 mins from Winston-Salem. Charlotte is an hour from Winston-Salem it’s so far out it’s a big city but I hate being limited , I’m also in a different city in this part of nc every weekend
Help please: people who live in either- we are outdoorsy, have young kids, homeschool, crunchy minded, like farmers markets and stuff, parks, walking trails so on.. Raleigh the better choice??
I'd lean more toward Raleigh then. We have a similar lifestyle in common, and moving to charlotte was a big mistake. Mecklenburg County School District is a mess also, so homeschooling would be ideal if you moved to charlotte. Visit!
I like both towns but to me Raleigh feels more like the ‘college town’ that’s kinda quiet if college sports or the NHL Hurricanes aren’t going on whereas Charlotte feels more like a ‘big-city’, reminds me of a cleaner, smaller Atlanta.
I'm trying to do some research, out of the two cities which has more hills for cycling? Both seem to be pretty flat, but are there surrounding areas that might have some steep elevations?
Lived in both Raleigh is better hands down. The universities lends itself to businesses catering to that base from resturants to stores. The mix of all the cities give each a unique feel and you can get from one to another in a quickie. also all the major players in RTP as those companies invest in the city to accomodate the work force. Charlotte suburbs dont connect tohe city like it should and too many bad areas in Charlotte. Ive been hanging out at South End and is growing fast but the energy from colleges is missing. Charlotte just seems to be missing something; coming from Atlanta and a former NY I just enjoyed Raleigh.
I have lived in Raleigh, Atlanta and now Charlotte. If you are a college student or around that age bracket, I agree, Raleigh hands down. I LOVED Raleigh when I was in college and through my mid 20s. But for the professional millennial and active middle ager (and slightly older), Raleigh leaves much to be desired. Charlotte is not Atlanta, BUT it has a 'big city' feel and offerings, including a dense/thriving down (up) town, the NoDa (art district), and Southend areas; each hosting endless restaurants, art, diverse culture and nightlife, on every block. There are three PROfessional league teams (NBA, NFL, FC), in center city. Charlotte has a more advance and growing transit system, including Light Rail, Streetcar, Bus, and Bus Rapid Transit. The Charlotte Douglas International airport is the sixth busiest airport in the United States, and a hub for American Airlines. When it comes to shopping, Charlotte's South Park Mall (one of three malls in the city) hosts luxury stores such as Burberry, Louis Vuitton, Hermès, David Yurman, Tiffany & Co, Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Saint Laurent, etc. And then there's Concord Mills Mall, which hosts COACH, MK, etc. is NC's largest single-site tourist attraction. For outdoor activity Charlotte offers the Carowinds amusement park (open year-round), US Whitewater Center (the world's largest and most complex recirculating artificial whitewater river), three TopGolf facilities, Quail Hollow (world ranked golf course) and endless public parks, nature trails, farmer's markets, etc., etc. Not to mention cultural, musical, performing/fine arts festivals year-round. And yes, minus Gastonia, ALL of Charlotte's suburbs connect to the city.
As an out of towner who has visited both, Raleigh has more charm and less generic of the 2. Raleigh is probably the nicest city in North Carolina. Although Raleigh can be on the generic side too
I have lived in both. Of course Charlotte is larger, there are more opportunities, prettier. There is also lots of crime, lots of traffic. Go north of Raleigh and there is real hilly land, very pretty. For good or bad, Durham is just next door. I didn't live as long in Raleigh as Charlotte so I'm not as familiar with it.
I'm thinking of moving there as well. Can you maybe share some good neighborhoods for families with schools? The real estate market has been absolutely crazy, so the prices are awful now if you buy.
Charlotte have 5 malls. SouthPark Mall Carolina Place Mall in Pineville Charlotte Premium Outlet Mall Concord Mills mall in Concord and Northlake Mall.
The Raleigh area has a few like Crabtree Valley Mall, Northgate Mall, Southpoint, etc. There’s also Cary Towne Center but it recently closed as Epic Games plans to redevelop it into their headquarters which could increase film in the area as we’ve already had scenes for Iron man 3, The mandalorian, Rogue One, The rise of skywalker filmed at epic games
@@mindfloodnc oh man I love Tanger Outlets!! And for some reason, every time I go there, I find myself in a cooking store even though I don’t ever cook 😂

I love your videos! They are very informational. Thank you! Anything on school districts? I'm an elementary teacher and am considering moving there next year.
I’m a Charlotte resident through and through. Although I now live outside the city limits (in Waxhaw - Union County), it’s still part of the suburban sprawl. I attended Davidson College on the north side of town, which is a very prestigious college in terms of academics ranked with Duke and Wake Forest it’s sporting prowess definitely isn’t as well known but that wasn’t important to me. Raleigh is a very nice area too and I feel parts of it probably have better value over Charlotte. Last few years I’ve noticed newcomers have really driven locals out of the market. Originally as a child I was born in Sydney, Australia where the median house price today is over $1.3 million so anywhere in NC seems like pocket change from that point of view 😂
You left out a lot of Charlotte's museums and parks. Not to mention theatres like Blumenthal and Ovens. Didn't mention the Hezekiah Alexander House. Daniel Stowe Botanical gardens. Lotta plantation park.
Yes, we did mention the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center. We didn't mention tons of things in both cities. Please go back and watch the part at the first of the video where we said we can't possibly fit everything into this video and that we're going to do another one in the future. Also, please send us the link to your video when it's posted. I'm sure it will be flawless.
would like to see the comparison on panhandlers.. Was recently on a weekend visit to uptown Charlotte.. Was a little surprised at the large panhandling presence.. Have not been to Raleigh yet
I lived in the Raleigh /Durham area all thru college....even worked in RTP after graduating then moved to Miami, Fl and now back to NC. But this time I am living in Charlotte. I grew up in NC and I always like living in big cities.......Charlotte for me, has it all. I really do not care about Raleigh being closer to the coast.....coming from Miami ( 15 yrs living in South FL) NC coast is just a sleepy little area....not interested at al......Charlotte is closer to the mountains, which I love, love love......I rented a cabin in Blowing Rock, NC and spent Xmas there with friends and family that visited me here from Miami.
You seem to be the only one on here who likes Charlotte more. I looked into Miami before, but can't afford to live there. Not sure if you could recommend me.some neighborhoods in Charlotte with good schools that are good value.
Nice and informative. BTW you don't have to make a decision for me. After watching your video I have been able to make a decision to move to Charlotte.
I just moved here from central NJ - greater Princeton area. Why? A one bedroom in Plainsboro is now $2000 per month. Hillsborough is 2500 in a new development. Visit before you come and stay a while. So far I really dislike Charlotte and not just for the gargantuan roaches who visit my kitchen. Guaranteed culture shock dear Jersey girl - be warned While Jersey roads are bad at least there are shoulders. Very few in NC, and they are only two lanes each way. Think Route 130 with no shoulders or a perpetual Rte 206. Charlotte and surrounding suburbs need a lot more traffic lights and getting out of your development is hairy-scary with the unending noisy traffic. Seven weeks to get a DMV license appointment and then you have to go elsewhere to get title, registration and plates (3 hour ordeal). The tax the property value of your car. You are used to private liquor stores but beware NC has ABC State stores that sell hard liquor only - no mixers. For wine you need to go to a distributor like a grocery store. With limited selections. Don't be shocked to see signs for 'gun raffle next week'. Dogs are routinely left outside and this is not thought to be abnormal. The population is clueless as to the noise pollution and too passive to complain. Leaf blowing 7 days a week at 95 decibels is common. I work from home and have 5 hours of noise a day. The state tax is only about 3% less than New Jersey so there will not be a big increase like if you moved to Florida. Corporate landlords (Progress Residential, American Homes for Rent) have outbid all the locals on the affordable, pretty homes in places like Mint Hill NC. So there is an excellent chance your landlord will be a Private Equity firm located somewhere else. Read up on the reviews for Progress Residential and others to see what you are in for and it's not pretty. Rents are going sky high, not as bad as NJ but the price of housing is unaffordable in safe areas. These private equity firms use the income from the rental homes to pay interest on the bonds. The cash from the bond sale is then used to buy more homes. Read up on Wall Street landlords who have a 1 billion dollar kitty to outbid you and increase their portofolio of 70,000 homes as an asset class. Hence, the doubling of prices. If you are looking for roadside farmers stands, greenhouses and places like Tony's Flower Farm they are not here. I finally realized why NJ was called the Garden State. The clay soil (as least in Mint Hill) seems to have stopped any attempt at gardening. I'm ready to move to Raleigh just for the Wegman's....Finding native Charlotte locals - they are MIA amidst all the 'transplants' (that's what they call us) from NY, NJ, Ohio, CT, Florida returnees. First day here someone was buying Matzoh in Harris Teeter for the Jewish High Holy Days.
Hello, I'm in my early 30s and work in the school system. I've been considering moving to NC. I do enjoy good food and a nice lounge to hangout and meet people. I currently live in Savannah Georgia. I'm not one for city life, but I do enjoy going to the downtown area here, or going to places outside of the downtown area to hangout and socialize. What's a good place to live for a young professional in NC? I want to live in a nice neighborhood, but I'm okay with not living in the city.
Dude, they define the "Charlotte Metro" as an additional EIGHT counties surrounding Mecklenburg County. The "Raleigh Metro" is "officially" only counted as basically Wake County and maybe two more counties surrounding Wake. If they took the 8 counties surrounding Wake County and called that the "Raleigh Metro", then the Raleigh Metro is bigger than the Charlotte Metro.
Good comparison - I travel between the two weekly. Raleigh is NOT good if you are a single man to find single women over 40. Not even in Cary (Concentrated Area of Relocated Yankees). Charlotte is much better from that perspective.
But Charlotte has the Carolina Panthers (NFL), Charlotte Hornets (NBA), and Charlotte FC; all professional teams. Not to mention minor league baseball and hockey teams. I guess it's all about preference.
@@stardust0813 the Panthers are garbage, NBA is the worst men's professional sport, and soccer is meh, although may be more fun in person. Just my opinions 😄
I know the history of the NHL Hurricanes however I just always found it odd that the Canes were based in Raleigh instead of Charlotte where you got the NFL and NBA based at. You would just think the minor league hockey team would be based in Raleigh rather than Charlotte.
I live in Raleigh and my parents stay in Charlotte Raleigh gives me a country feel and Charlotte makes me feel like I’m in a bigger city than I’m actually in🤣
I can't speak for Charlotte, but I lived in Raleigh for about 25 years, Greensboro for 6. I would take Greensboro over Raleigh any day of the week. Better people, better traffic. Raleigh is the last place on earth I would ever move back to. I'm 64 now and have lived in many states. Raleigh is for people that are "perfect" and never admit to a mistake. Meanwhile, the racism, spouses sleeping around, and being a back stabbing snipe are normal.
Well I lived in both (still reside in Charlotte), and your analogy is flipped. Let's see, A.) Raleigh = one professional sport (hockey), Charlotte = 3 pro teams (NFL, NBA, MLS) B.) Raleigh = 0 amusement park(s), Charlotte = Carowinds (open year round) C.) Raleigh = one transit system (bus), Charlotte = bus, bus rapid transit, street car, light rail D.) Charlotte International Airport = 6th busiest airport in the nation, and a hub E.) Charlotte = high-end fashion shopping: Louis Vuitton, COACH, MK, Hermès, David Yurman, Tiffany & Co, Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Saint Laurent, etc. (all in one mall, South Park). F.) Charlotte = US Whitewater Center (world's largest man-made recirculating whitewater activity river) G.) FYI: in 2022 Charlotte ranked 5th as cleanest of 50 large cities in the US (Raleigh, 15): www.insuremytrip.com/travel-advice/travel-inspiration/cleanest-us-cities/ H.) Raleigh = 0 international luxury hotels, Charlotte = The Westin, Ritz Carlton, Grand Bohemian, JW Marriott, etc., etc. I could go on and on, but will stop here.
Just a thought, is soccer popular at all in either city? Or the state for that matter lol? Was thinking about moving here from Scotland but it’s something important to me to think about.
It’s definitely gaining popularity. We have a pro team in Raleigh and one in Charlotte or it might be coming soon. Raleigh is trying to build a professional soccer stadium in Downtown South with a mixed-use area. If that happens popularity will definitely increase.
Both cities have pro soccer teams. Raleigh has North Carolina FC which competes in the USL League One (Tier 3). Charlotte has the Charlotte Independence which competes in the USL Championship (Tier 2) with the soon to come Charlotte FC (MLS).
Yes Charlotte has a Major League Soccer Team (Charlotte FC) that attracted 76,000 fans in their first game. They play Chelsea tonite in a friendly on ESPN at 7:30 Eastern if you are interested.

Maybe I’m wrong but Charlotte has more of a South Carolina “vibe” and Raleigh has more of a North Carolina “vibe”
I can tell you’re bias or just don’t know what you’re talking about
I'm in Atlanta and I've visited North Carolina and I kinda sorta wanna move! Atlanta is not the same as it used to be. It's worse. Charlotte is a good move I'd think. Thanks for your videos!
Thanks for watching!
I lived in Atlanta for years and visited Charlotte often. Charlotte is clean, friendlier, and calmer. I love it there. Definitely moving there this year. Shhhhhh. don't tell the Atlanta residents about Charlotte though. lol

I loved how you showed the city in the background while you spoke. Really enjoyed this video!
Thank you!!
Having spent a month in both in our RV, there is no contest. Raleigh hands down.
Thanks for sharing!
Both cities are great, they need each other.
We agree
Recently had to move for work and had a few cities to choose from, I ended up choosing Raleigh after viewing a lot of your videos and I’m loving it so much. Thanks for the work you do, appreciate ya.
That’s great to hear! So happy we were able to help!
Thanks for sharing!
There are lots of things to do in Charlotte everyday of the week!!! Many places are open to 2am.
I live in Ballantyne, I don’t even go into the city. It’s beautiful here
Good to know!
At least you don't have to live in Wilkes County this place has freaking old people in it all the time
@@AcknowledgeMe29 i feel you, I’m surrounded by young rich woman 🤣💯
Yes it is. My parents used to live in the area. I grew up about 2 miles from Southpark.
i’m moving to NC in 2 months, is Ballantyne is a decent sized city or a small town?
I’ve lived in both. My issue with Raleigh is that their downtown area and close surrounding areas are filthy and run-down. Also, their highways have a ton of trash alongside them.
Charlotte, on the other hand, is a pristine city. I don’t know if there is a cleaner downtown, or “uptown” area in America.
Yes, we talked about some of these issues in another video. Raleigh is still a great place for a lot of people, as is Charlotte.
Absolutely! Everywhere in Charlotte is very well kept. Hardly see trash on the ground that is not picked up with a short period. Very clean city.
yes southeast raleigh is bad, used to leave there unfortunately
Thanks for watching! Honestly, Charlotte has Raleigh beat for transportation. Raleigh is lacking in that department.
Hey fellow college student, what made you think about North Carolina? I go to school in Oregon and was just wondering what peaked your interest
The weather in NC is better but what are you actually looking for
I’d avoid the south if I was looking for transportation, You’re better off at the midwest or the northeast.
Raleigh is at least 10 years behind Charlotte in every field.
Please elaborate… what fields?
You forgot Concord mills...the biggest tourist attraction in north Carolina
As we said in the beginning... more to come! We can't fit everything in one video!
Yes definitely good to check both cities out. Both are great in their own way
@@LivinginRaleighTV Hi😊 is it possible to do a video about moving to the outskirts of the big cities….Charlotte, Raleigh etc it would be very appreciated
You’re incredible! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDEOS. You’re input is amazing 🤩 really incredible information and SO interesting! 💛
I love the metropolitan area population estimates because people go for just the city’s population alone without considering the suburbs of an area. Still find it strange that they never combined Raleigh MSA and Durham MSA and love how this video does because it makes no sense to not put Raleigh and Durham in the same MSA. Great video!
Yes agreed! Thank you
Charlotte MSA is 2,701,046 and Raleigh MSA is 1,448,441 with the 2022 census estimates
I'm sure it wasn't personal but you overlooked the baseball Charlotte Knights. Nice video by the way.
Yep, thank you! Hard to fit everything in.
We also “overlooked” plenty in Raleigh. Not everything can fit in one video. More coming in the future.
Thanks for sharing!
So for median household income buying power is 17.3% more in raleigh
However if you’re concerned about buying power, the midwest is the best for that, Indianapolis, Chicago, Cincinnati, Omaha NE, Minneapolis I think have the highest buying power in the country.
You answered all my questions! Thank you Chris!
You’re welcome!
I'll give you the fast direct anwer having lived in both places. Raleigh is filthy and Charlotte is clean and beautiful.

@@mykephitMinneapolis city borders are very small, Minneapolis urban area is clearly much larger than raleigh
Appreciate the comment, thanks for sharing. Interesting point about the amusement parks.

I like both towns but to me Raleigh feels more like the ‘college town’ that’s kinda quiet if college sports or the NHL Hurricanes aren’t going on whereas Charlotte feels more like a ‘big-city’, reminds me of a cleaner, smaller Atlanta.
Thank you!

Very nice, balanced perspective. Thanks.

Thanks for the comment! Very informative.

Hello Living in Raleigh TV
I love how he has to compare CLT to the entire Triangle. #Charlottesgotalot.
Great 👍🏽 info ty for sharing
Thank you!
Charlotte doesn't have the Carolina Hurricanes... I went to my first game last week and it was an awesome experience!
Nice! Glad you enjoyed
@@rwall3450 I guess they have to spread the love a little, lol
I miss Wegmans so much. There’s absolutely no store that comes close. 😩
Wegman's is great!
What’s the dating life like in raeligh
You should compare Asheville NC to Wilmington NC
Great idea!
CLT is adding another 640 million to the airport if i'm correct, it's a huge ass air port
Yep. And one of the busiest in the country/world. I believe it's now 6th busiest in the US.
I live in Raleigh and my parents stay in Charlotte Raleigh gives me a country feel and Charlotte makes me feel like I’m in a bigger city than I’m actually in🤣
Interesting, thanks for sharing!
Moving Mizoram India to Charlotte NC..amazing city
Great video. I'm a photographer and may visit Charlotte for a walking tour
Lived in Raleigh, spent lots of time in Charlotte, and an appropriate analogy makes Charlotte a Ford Explorer and Raleigh a Cadillac Escalade.
Well I lived in both (still reside in Charlotte), and your analogy is flipped. Let's see,
A.) Raleigh = one professional sport (hockey), Charlotte = 3 pro teams (NFL, NBA, MLS)
B.) Raleigh = 0 amusement park(s), Charlotte = Carowinds (open year round)
C.) Raleigh = one transit system (bus), Charlotte = bus, bus rapid transit, street car, light rail
D.) Charlotte International Airport = 6th busiest airport in the nation, and a hub
E.) Charlotte = high-end fashion shopping: Louis Vuitton, COACH, MK, Hermès, David Yurman, Tiffany & Co, Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Saint Laurent, etc. (all in one mall, South Park).
F.) Charlotte = US Whitewater Center (world's largest man-made recirculating whitewater activity river)
G.) FYI: in 2022 Charlotte ranked 5th as cleanest of 50 large cities in the US (Raleigh, 15): www.insuremytrip.com/travel-advice/travel-inspiration/cleanest-us-cities/
H.) Raleigh = 0 international luxury hotels, Charlotte = The Westin, Ritz Carlton, Grand Bohemian, JW Marriott, etc., etc.
I could go on and on, but will stop here.
Should add Museum of Life and Science in Durham. One of the best I’ve ever been to.
Nice!
Great video! Can you do a comparison of Raleigh with Greensboro, Winston Salem area?
We’ll add it to the list! Thanks for the suggestion!
Thank you for the information. Hoping to move to Garner.
You're welcome and thank you for watching! Happy to help
I’m finding myself looking closer and closer to moving my family to NC Leaning Raleigh..
I really like the intro beat... who’s the artist?
Raleigh is a good choice!
It's Damma Beatz - Under The Weather
Same. I am looking for good schools a college for my 17 and elementary for 7 year old
Ive lived in both and basically whats a Sir compared to a Queen? Exactly.
😅🤣😂
I love Charlotte.
Awesome
As of now we have FC Charlotte as well
Just a thought, is soccer popular at all in either city?
Charlotte now has an MLS team. and a triple A baseball team in uptown. Great environment.
Yes Charlotte has a Major League Soccer Team (Charlotte FC) that attracted 76,000 fans in their first game. They play Chelsea tonite in a friendly on ESPN at 7:30 Eastern if you are interested.
Charlotte actually beat Chelsea in a shootout - fantastic game ! The match was 1-1 and Charlotte won in a shootout.
Raleigh correction and you can check the Census numbers, Raleigh is actually more dense over all.
Nice
@@LivinginRaleighTV You do know folks think we don't have a nightlife here right ????? We have one of the most active high energy areas of nightlife in the Southeast with Glenwood South and you hardly see any promotion on youtube of this area smh, you look up Nashville nightlife and Austin two competing areas and watch sixth Street and Broadway pop up all day lol, its a selling point no young person wants to move to a boring city and Raleigh still gives that signal off, its time to reach the next level here
@@MrRalboi919 I've definitely heard that from some people. We'll eventually get around to showing off Glenwood South on here.
Which Raleigh area|'hood is best for urban, city living where driving is not always a necessity?
Basically the whole downtown area and North Hills and Hillsborough St area as well
Charlotte has Reid's grocery which is a high end grocery store
