  • The Engine Control Modules (ECMs) of some Audi and Volkswagen vehicles are frustratingly difficult to pull out of the car. Not only they are normally placed in hard-to-reach spots but they also come with metal brackets and security bolts that require some hard work and concentration to remove. In this video you will learn learn how to deal with those security bolts appropriately so that you can swap out your ECM.

    You can use a small chisel at a 45 degree angle to break the screw free. Replacement screws are M5x12mm

    I dressed the tops of the security bolts flat(ish) with a file and then drilled the heads off using a 2.5mm bit for a pilot hole followed by a 6mm bit which removed the head. Worked fine for me and less brutal than an angle grinder.
