The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Siepi is the bestest bass singer of basses, including opera aria, musical, and pop songs well. He is a Basso profondo, and Bel canto singer too. I really admire him in every way of him.

With all due respect buddy, I disagree with that way of classifying his voice. I think he sounds heavier than a basso cantante but not quite a basso profondo. I think he is a dramatic high bass (some people call it a Verdi bass).

@@bradycall1889 I agree, in italian classification hes voice is "Drammatico basso cantante", in some other classification (commonly used in former USSR countries, but шт афсе that is choir classification) it may be called "central bass".

Basso profondo is usually associated with a low bass that also struggles with high notes. Siepi doesn't struggle with high notes at all, on the contrary. He has a fantastic lower register, including the low C, but all in all, he is a basso cantante. Just as Pinza was a basso cantante. Pinza had a sort of self made technique. I'm not sure he had access to all the low notes he could have potentially had with the instrument he was given.

Conducted by the composer, Richard Rogers. From the 1945 musical, Carousel.

Siepi, a basso cantante (low bass) with a fantastic range in both directions (C2 to at least G4) sings this song beautifully, with impeccable English diction. He sings it in B-flat major, which is really a baritone key, but he handles the baritone tessitura very well, uncorking a fine, solid top F.
The very capable conductor is none other than the song's composer, Richard Rodgers.

From a Richard Rodgers tribute show taped at Carnegie Hall. I think Rodgers is conducting the orchestra. Please upload Jan Peerce and Sergio Franchi's powerful renditions of this great song on the Sullivan show!

Another Siepi surprise. We never watched the Sullivan show often back when I was a kid but now thanks to You Tube I am catching up.
Wonderful & thanks so much for the posting.

Excellent. And I really like the sound of the audio. Makes me think of classic Disney movies. Recordings just aren’t made the same these days, and they haven’t been for a good while.
