You sound very resourceful which I think is a benefit when dealing with recreational vehicles, especially older ones. Look forward to you documenting future adventures
Absolutely (not sure where your reply disappeared to)! In the UK it is mandatory that every vehicle passes a safety test to make sure it is roadworthy each year, including campers/RVs. They test to make sure tyres aren't worn and all switches, windscreen wipers, brakes, and lights work. To summarise, its not a test of the habitation side of the vehicle, only the mechanical side!
A very honest and comprehensive vlog. * I was 23 when I was trying to insure my first motorhome, it cost over £500 and that was years ago. So you've done well getting insured for under £1000. * Your Fiat is virtually the same van as the contemporary Citroen Relay and Peugeot Boxer (not the engine though). So if you're struggling for a particular part, try searching for the other brands. * Resealing is definitely good preventative maintenance. A lot of older motorhomes have suffered major damage or even been written off by the damage caused by failed sealing. * Your motorhome seems in very good condition overall. I think you've bought really well. I'm looking forward to seeing some of your travels.
Thank you! Wow, it's good to have a good comparison! Glad to hear I've bought well and I'll definitely take on board the advice about the similarities between my Fiat Ducato and Citroën Relay/Peuguot Boxer.
With rust.a stitch in time, is very much relevant 😊😊 Wire brush, rust nuteraliser, zinc enriched undercoat paint, £3 wire brush, £6 rust neutraliser, £12 undercoat paint could save your vehicle major surgery and cost. If that is all that is needed proceed with topcoat and a good quality underseal. If their are no holes you have at least nutralised the rust from going further !😊😊
Very sound advice, getting a motorhome is a huge learning curve that's for sure. Now you've sorted them problems you've got a great base to build on going forward and getting out there exploring 😊👍🏻
We've just bought a Fiat Ducato 2001. Interior is identical to yours. Great idea about sealant. Think we'll do the same. Our first trip is this weekend. Woo! Will be following you to see how your experience goes. Good luck and maybe see you on the road 😊
Brilliant detailed vlog 👍 i think you've got a bargain with your motorhome. I've seen some at double the price when I've watched The motorhome man who is also on TH-cam, they seem to hold the price well and if looked after like yours could be a good earner if you come to sell it on or upgrade. Looking forward to seeing some of your adventures, if the weather ever gets better ☀️
Definitely got a bargain. Motorhome prices are extortionate sometimes but definitely worth the wait to see options. It would be wonderful if the weather improved sometime soon! Many adventures to be had
Great video. Very informative. You got a great deal to be on the road with a years MOT for 11 and a bit grand. Fair play to you. thanks again for all the info.
Now there is a young, very attractive lady, bearing a most attractive smile, and with her head well screwed on. She knows what she wanted and went out and got it. Well done, m'Lady! (From one ginge to another ginge, but unfortunately I have many, many years on you, and a lot of my "ginge" has now fallen out.)
Check your corrosion as soon as possible. I bought old motorhome and spent £5200 in repairs shop to get rid of MOST (but not all) corrosion just to pass MOT. It’s very pricey and the situation only gonna get worse with time. Don’t let corrosion to spread!
Oh no, that sounds horrendous!! Thankfully my motorhome has passed its MOT now. I checked the MOT history (including any notes on corrosion) before buying it so thankfully it only has some around the wheel arch. I will be investing in a motorhome cover to try and keep rain and frost off it though!
Well done, you. We can recommend a site in the Lincolnshire Wolds called Glentham Grange. Adult only, peaceful, wildlife in abundance and within easy reach of loads of places worth visiting. Also, the hosts Dave and Debbie have made this site from scratch to amazingly high standard and are a fabulous couple.

This is a massive surprise as I couldn't find it anywhere!! Can you please let me know where you got the white Sikaflex 522 from?
