My grandpa was the best banjo player I’ve ever met. He had the finger picks and multiple high-quality banjos. It was so awesome to listen to him play when I was little.
Roscoe Holcomb, Grandpa Jones, Dave Macon, string bean, Pete Seeger, frank Proffitt and tons of others. Bluegrass is not the only music played on the banjo 🪕
There's actually a lot of pros, banjos and/or mandolins are used in a few Celtic punk bands, and a lot of Irish Trad or Irish folk bands. The Dubliners are The High Kings off the top of my head had banjos
As a self taught banjo player i can confirm this is 100% accurate, also try nylgut banjo strings they are wayyy easier on the fingers and sound classical
When I first started learning the banjo I was at a complete loss. I’m so glad I kept with it though because it is such a beautiful instrument. My family is from Tennessee so I love doing Appalachian folk music
Steve Martin is the only professional banjo player i've heard of. he learned it because he thought it was the funniest instrument, and he's world class at it
I did this same shit like 10 years ago lmao thought I was gonna be hot shit and do a banjo intro to a thrash metal song and I could NEVER play the sound that I had in my head. That banjo just kinda hangs on the wall to this day. Rarely played lol
Look up Bill Monroe Ricky scaggs and Lamb of God for all your west Virginia banjo needs but honestly banjo is actually a really versatile instrument I've used them in thrash songs I've written before and the Celtic sound goes hand in hand with that
To any string players, sometimes a little of super glue, the one that doesn't burn your skin, may help until you get callouses, so the string doesn't hurt as much the pads of your fingers, just make sure to don't glue your fingers to anything
That there is an open back banjo which is usually used in oldtime rather than bluegrass. You should learn a bit of clawhammer. I’d recommend little sadie since the tuning makes it really easy
My dad and his brothers have played banjo for almost their whole lives since they were in their teens to now, 50/s and 60s. I grew up hearing it all the time and it can be beautiful and annoying at times but always such an interesting instrument
She’s fantastic but clawhammer style kinda limits her ability in my opinion EDIT: brainfart, I somehow thought you were talking about Abigail Washburn. Was a long day haha
@@canadianguitarguru sorry I had a complete brainfart, I was recently watching a bunch of videos with him and Abigail Washburn and just got done playing for Playing for hours so I somehow my brain thought you were talking about her lol - your correct tho, he is absolutely the best in the world in my opinion, on the technical playing side of things - I have few others that I really just like their style tho but that personal preference
Steve Martin. He’s a famous banjo player. Granted, he’s more famous for his movies and comedy, but he plays bluegrass banjo for the Steep Canyon Rangers.

Damn this guy is getting a lot of instruments recently

Yep, we've all been there 😅
That Eli Gilbert intro hit close to my heart. That was my first video after I got my banjo

Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs both banjo professionals
Earl was the one who played for them
Don't forget bela fleck
Roscoe Holcomb, Grandpa Jones, Dave Macon, string bean, Pete Seeger, frank Proffitt and tons of others. Bluegrass is not the only music played on the banjo 🪕
Rhiannan Giddens, Roy Clark, mf uuuuh... idk the list goes on tho.
J.D Crowe. One of, if not the best five string banjo pickers to ever touch the instrument.

Are the notes the same as on guitar? Like on the low E string it goes F G A B C D E
When I first started learning the banjo I was at a complete loss. I’m so glad I kept with it though because it is such a beautiful instrument. My family is from Tennessee so I love doing Appalachian folk music

Well I was going to do the same or just play a banjo for fun, I think I know niw why there's never banjos at music stores
He is gonna be the first professional bhanjod 😂
should try a mandolin next. Also, "first pro banjo player"? Rhiannon Giddens and Bob Schmidt would like a word.
Glad to see every string instrument has its own form of marty schwartz 💀
Steve Martin is a pretty good banjo player.
That’s what I’m saying
As a banjo player I can relate to this
Holy shit they actually make picks like that you can shred a guitar with those
You should try bouzouki!!
That fall in the beginning is starting to become an icon of your videos 😂😂❤

Colton Crawford from the Dead South is one notable banjo player.
This truly is a banjo moment
Idk why but bro was so accurate w my reactions from getting my first one
"Why's it not tuning! 😡" 😂😂 so real
I like that when he watched the first video on banjo, you could still see a tiny bit of the bridge even though he hadn't installed it yet.
That’s a nice banjo!
Thank you Clifton Hicks, I love you.
The beginning is the best in my opinion
The expression watching music tutorials is so spot on
me as a banjo player thinks its so relatable him watching Eli Gilbert banjo but if you trying to learn banjo then Jim Pankey is the way to go
"I dunno the names of any professional banjo players"
Kermit the frog and banjo (from banjokazooie) would be very disappointed if they hear that.
TIMBRZEAL has some great space banjo stuff
ROY CLARK. Also one of the greatest gutar players.

as a banjo player, this is indeed the way to make a ham sandwich.
The finger thing with the strings is relatable as a guitar player 💀
I personally would never play but i just love the sound it makes
Yoo as a metal string guitar player I can feel those finger marks😂. Luckily you form callouses after a while.

That’s a cool maiden shirt 👌
You know I love country music and I like a little banjo in a song not too much but you know just enough
Did you know that the banjo is the national instrument of the United States ( I think)
Steve Martin is a banjo fiend. The finger indents are real! Badge of honor
My dad and his brothers have played banjo for almost their whole lives since they were in their teens to now, 50/s and 60s. I grew up hearing it all the time and it can be beautiful and annoying at times but always such an interesting instrument
Early Eagles music when Bernie Leadon was with them. They used banjo a lot back in the day.
No Wonderwall?
the seriousness on his face whenever he's watching a video got me dying lmfao!
Literally EXACTLY how the first 20 minutes of me owning a banjo went
The banjo is the instrument everybody knows about, but nobody talks about it

Steve Martin

"It looks like something I'd buy from hot topic" LOLL
Grandpa Jones, Roy Clark, earl Scruggs just to name a few iconic banjo players, it ironic watching these because I play both guitar and banjo
