I picked up the Banjo like two years ago. I wasl 60 years old. I was diagnosed with stage 4 Throat cancer.. and had to get throat surgery,I woke from a 22 hr surgery, and no voice box ,and couldn't breathe through my mouth and nose.. so I was through a no music dilemma. Then I smashed my right wrist. I am a lumberjack. Then just as I was make really good progress,I had to buy a left handed banjo...??? I can't move my thumb at all. So I started to play left handed... And for 16 weeks I practiced everything you taught. I just want to say thank you for caring, and loving your craft enough to post such great tutorials... I know this a lot of words but I can't tell you how much your banjo lessons and your knowledge saved me. So thank you for doing what u do.. ps an your getting so so much better with your picking. Sorry for this short story/ half a novel. But you saved me with your banjo lessons. An I am cancer free!! And no longer can talk no voice box Eli your are such a great teacher and I thank you my family thanks you . And keep on keeping on . Thank you Young Man...
Struggling through this, I really appreciate it. I hope to learn to play before my 60th birthday. This will be my first musical instrument. Thank you! Your an incredible good teacher!
Well as they say in the ole country "better late then never" or " you can not teach an ole dog new tricks" ... at 72 years old I am about to prove one of those proverbs correct and the other wrong. Waiting for the arrival of a new beginners 5 string banjo and like others, this will be my first musical instrument. Eli thank you so very much for taking the time to publish your "Absolute Beginner Banjo Course" and doing so for free. I cannot imagine the scores of banjo players who have benefitted from your kindness. I hope I too, become one of them soon. You have done Earl Scruggs proud.
They say it's never to late. Never played anything but a clarinet in school. (70's) and have always loved the sound of a banjo. Well now at 63, I want to try. Just bought a used Kay remo open back. Just l picked my first string watching this video. Put a smile on my face with just learning this. Thanks!
I impulse bought a Banjo today. I had no idea what I was doing, and because of you I'm making more progress in 1 day than I thought I would make in 1 year! I subscribed to Patreon, thanks mate this is just legendary.
You know, I've played guitar, bass, and some piano, but I just bought a banjo and holy shit this is the most fun instrument I've played hands down. I'm tryna get better so I can sit on my campus' quad and play banjo for the pedestrians, and these lessons are helping a lot in achieving my country ass goal. This comment was brought to you by the Banjo Gang.
I encourage anyone with is just starting out on the banjo to keep watching Eli’s videos and stick with it. I have minimal musical experience and within a month’s time I was able to play “boil that cabbage down” and “cripple creek” with my father (him playing the backup on guitar). Eli is a fantastic teacher.
I'm 64 years old, retired and tired of winter in PA. I've always loved classic country music and especially the sound of someone playing "Foggy Mountain Breakdown". A friend of mine plays three stringed instruments and recently surprised me with a nice used banjo, a case, picks, a tuner and a training book to read then said "Here you go, now start practicing" :). The next day, I did some reading then found your training videos and I'm using them to practice as often as possible. Your method of teaching is excellent and a few years of playing piano years ago helps me a lot with tempo. I'm beginning lesson three this evening and wanted to say Thank You !!! for sharing your knowledge.
My husband has been promising to buy me a banjo since we started dating 11 years ago. Today was the day that he delivered on that promise! He found your videos before gifting it to me and recommended I start here. You made this first lesson easy and I’m so excited to practice and watch the next one tomorrow!
My grandfather gave me a banjo when i was a little kid. Its been sitting in my room for near 20 years. These lessons really help break things down in a way i can understand. Im gonna learn, i just wish he was still here to see me not waste his gift.
Picked a banjo up for the first time just after my 70th birthday. Hoping these old fingers will learn to move fast enough. Looking forward to learning. 3 lessons in now and keeping up.
I recently inherited my late Grandpa’s banjo and this found me perfectly. I bawled my eyes out the whole time learning this but I’m excited to do this for the next 30 days
I'm sitting at home impatiently waiting for my first banjo to be delivered when I see this suggestion for your video pop out. This is the perfect lesson for me as I don't think I have much musical talent, only a burning desire to learn to play the banjo. I'm going to enjoy working through your course.
That's all you need my friend is desire patience and practice ,practice, practice. My very best wishes for your future beautiful banjo music. Lol I think the world would be a much better place if everyone had and played atleast one banjo🤗
You are a natural teacher. I am visually impaired but can follow you with audio alone. Thank you for the printed lessons as well, they are simple, clear and are very accessible enlarged. This is Day 1 and I am excited to get started.
When my grandpa had his stroke, he was just wasting away for a while and couldn't speak very coherently, but he remembered his instruments. I'd walk by his room and hear him play sometimes. He passed away about a year ago and despite not having a will, everyone decided I should inherit his instruments and he would've agreed since I was always borrowing his dad's acoustic from him. One of these instruments is a banjo, probably the highest quality instrument he owned. It's been sitting in pristine condition as he always cleaned it and kept it in a case when not in use. I'm a southern man from a small town so I'm no stranger to hearing banjo, but the sound was kind of annoying or just boring until I grew older, and now I have an appreciation for it. I'd love to learn at least one bluegrass song, so here I am. I primarily play guitar but by a stroke of luck I suppose I'm also familiar with pianos, ocarinas, drums, violins and harmonicas. Hoping to add banjo to that list.
Thank you for not talking to us like we are complete idiots, yet giving us the info we need to do this. This is a great balance and I am looking forward to this. Now if I could only figure out what banjo I should get that I can afford.
Thank you so much for this! Coming from playing saxophone for 7~ish years, and just getting my late Grandpa's banjo, I really want to live this fun common interest between me and him...just wish he was here to enjoy it with me.
I am nearing 60 years old and like many here, have never played anything with strings. Brass while in highschool many, many years ago. I have been drawn to the banjo since childhood. I watched Flatt and Scruggs on the Beverly Hillbilly show and the dreams took it from there. Now I have the time to practice and get more serious. The dream is still alive. I am on day 10 of this course and will be supporting you through your patreon (You earned it !) Im learning slow as the first 10 days has taken me over a month. I am still slow (Not near up to tempo but my play is consistant and clear. I wanted to thank you for this series as I am not sure I could have done this any other way. Your are talented not only on the Banjo but as a teacher as well. Keep up the great work
OK dude, I'm going to put my trust in you (not that it's a really big deal). I live in Ohio, it's a couple days from the end of April. Summer's coming on, Memorial Day is almost upon us. People are coming outside despite the COVID-19 pandemic, little league baseball is in full swing and their will be picnics galore in 33 days. I am going to diligently follow your lessons and plan on playing Boil That Cabbage Down at the Memorial Day picnic (no matter how bad I am), so let's get with it.
you are a saint, most video series assume you already have some experience with the instrument, ive played wind instruments all my life but this aint no trumpet. thank you for actually starting at step 0
Had one of my coustomers gift me a Banjo that the kids in his highschool Band class rebuilt. Thanks for the first day. I'm 60 no musical talent..but you give me faith. I've already learned more in one day than I thought was possible.. Thanks
Thank you for filming these video's! I am a 63 year old grandma, who bought a Deering banjo 25 years ago. Life got in the way of me learning how to play at the time. Well, now is the time, as I still want to learn, & show my granddaughter if I can learn, she can learn her violin! 😂
My grandpa gave me a banjo, passed down through our family for a long time and I had no idea how to even hold it much less play it or what the finger picks were for!! Thank you so much! 19 days till Christmas and I promised my grandpa that I’d play him a song on Christmas Day 😅 Thank you so much! Your truly an AMAZING teacher!❤
Was hanging out with a good friend last night. Decided I needed a banjo. Went out today and bought an old Lyle. Almost got cold feet. I've been smiling all day. Your video is 20 some minutes, I've probably spent an hour on it. Gonna practice til bed and probably gonna think about tomorrow's lesson all day til I get of work. Thank you bud. Hope I'm still as giddy as I am now a month down the road.
I took up the ukulele years ago. Learnt bits... soon got bored. Bought an Ozark 2 years ago whilst drunk. Got some lessons... got bored. Found various tutorials... didn't persevere. Then someone recommended your channel. I'm going to do my absolute best to stick with this. Your first lesson got me hooked!
I started playing on Feb 5 2021 and am having so mush fun playing banjo and I have started posting videos to document my progress. I just stumbled across this series and I really appreciate the quality you put into these lessons! they are PERFECT for a beginner! Thanks from Canada!
@@JD-pp3ml I got just a cheap one on amazon to start with. The company is Kmise, and its name on amazon is "Kmise Professional Banjo, 5 Strings 38'', 24 Brackets, Remo Drum Head, Removable Closed Sapele Back, with Banjo Beginner Starter Kit,Bag Tuner Strap Strings Pickup Picks Ruler Wrench Bridge" I'm Happy with it as a starter banjo, but the finger picks that come with a "value pack" like this are pretty cheap so I would recommend buying some nice picks (10 - 15$) along side the banjo if you do get one like mine.
I've just followed the last lesson of this series. I really recommend this course to everyone who wants to learn to play bluegrass banjo. No matter where you come from, you can follow these lessons at your own pace and practicing really takes you to a higher level. I'm glad I found these series because it really helped me to start.
This is the best online lessons i've found! I have never thought I was musical but I'm on day 8 and can play this song. Im slower than him but Im getting better everyday. And its so much fun! Thanks Eli!
I just found this lesson and I am SO EXCITED to learn from you! Extremely clear, patient, kind, and informative teaching style without being overwhelming to noobs like me. Thank you!
I have been taking violin lessons for about 1 year. I am also interested in banjo. I don't have one yet, but will get one. Your instructions are SO VERY CLEAR I know I'll have success playing the banjo. ONE thing I like is that you make each lesson DOABLE -- not too many notes to follow. Thank you!
Most of my immediate family knows how to play/pick an instrument and sing…except me!! At 32 I’m finally deciding to learn. Thanks so much for your clear and concise videos, they are extremely helpful and make me excited to dive in. I pray that I can play well enough to jam alongside my family ❤️
I have been a fingerstyle travis picker for over 20 years. I have always played without finger picks with only 3 fingers. Bought a banjo on a whim and after about 45 minutes of playing, felt very natural. I am 56 now and wish I would have explored the world of banjo much sooner. Look forward to exploring your course.
Hi 👋 , I’m Vikki , I live on the southeastern coast of Australia , & I’m so thrilled to find these free lessons . Thank you 🙏!! I bought an old second hand banjo several years ago . I had to do a little maintenance on it , but it’s fine . I did get a start just playing a few things , and falling back on a guitar style of playing . But unfortunately I’ve had about 6 years of debility due to back issues , and the banjo has sat unused . Finally I’m getting well , and I made it back to a local singing group yesterday , many whom recalled that I was playing the banjo , which seems quite exciting to people , it was to me too ! 😂❤… so with renewed enthusiasm & confidence to dedicate myself to regular practise , I TH-camd lessons last night and found yours Eli . It looks like a very well structured course to get me into playing . I’ve printed the book this morning and have had a practise as well . I’m 60 , i have struggled with physical issues since my youth , which has made being consistent with anything challenging . However , I’m keen to achieve my goal to complete this course , I’m very excited about it now ! Thank you so much !!! ❤😊
@@bz6001 it’s been going great! I actually performed for a talent show about 3 months ago! I performed the first two songs that you taught in the lesson.
Today I bought a Banjo off a sheer whim and was nervous that the world of Banjo would be too much all at once. I have no gift at music and I am not in any sense educated in reading music. This was incredibly helpful and now I don't feel like i'm in over my head. Thank you so much.
Thanks so much Eli! I love this 30 day course. It’s more like a 90 day course for me, because I’m trying to master each lesson before moving forward. I’m currently on day 12! All the lessons are very clear and concise- just the right amount of content to learn in one go. I so appreciate all the work you’ve put into making your excellent videos.
I bought me a banjo yesterday. Ships tomorrow. Glad this guy is here for me. I've played guitar forever. The roll is the hardest part for me. Practice!!!!
Hi Eli, I played claw hammer style many years ago, & the banjo has been in its case ever since. After watching lesson 1 of your 30 day course on blue grass style,I've got the banjo out and started lesson 1, & it feels great again. Thank you for a brilliant course, which I shall follow with pleasure. Paul Lucas.
I tried starting to learn banjo last year and COVID interrupted. Decided to try again this year and stumbled on this first lesson. It was brilliant and looking forward to following along for the whole 30 days.
I just want to say that your course has already helped me feel so confident with playing the banjo. I've made it to day 3, and already I'm getting the hang of things. I actually practice almost daily, and if I can't, I at least watch the next video to prepare for the next time that I can. You've broken things down in a way that truly does keep it simple, but not too simple that I zone out or skip around. Thank you for this series, it's absolutely wonderful so far and I look forward to seeing how far I get in 30 days!
I just can't express how grateful I am for your videos and lessons. You're easy to learn from and obviously put a lot of thought and effort into the lessons. Thank you. I'm so excited to learn the banjo.
Picked up the banjo 9 days ago. So happy to have found your video. You've made it so a complete newbie can learn this quickly. My friends who have played for years say I must be a natural but I give the credit to you! Thanks so much!!!
Coming to banjo from guitar. I must say that I am enjoying this a lot. I spent my first day just learning how the banjo works and what music the five string was best suited to. I had no idea you had to set the bridge yourself. With the guitar, it’s already done for you. It was definitely a learning experience. After that I was ready to play a song.
bought an epiphone 5 string 14 years ago--never learned how to play--now i am almost 70 years old and cannot play guitar anymore due to arthritis in my hands--just got new strings put on and this video lesson has made me try the banjo--great instructions--thank you Eli
This video was incredibly well-thought out and put together; it answered all the questions I had both before the video and as they popped up during it. Never have I seen this level of thought put into an instructional TH-cam video. Great work.
Duuuuuuuuude, i am so excited to start your lessons! For more than 3 years I wanted to start playing the banjo and following your channel since, without a banjo, because i was travelling and didnt want to carry it around. Now i ordered one and unpacked it today... so excited to start with your 30 day course! Love your calm and clear style of teaching!
I am so excited. I turned sixty and am having life reflections. I have always wanted to play the Banjo but alas life quickly passes us by. I have the summer off so it is the best most perfect time to try and do this. My son bought me a Banjo three years ago. He is so excited that I finally broke it out to learn. Praying that in thirty days I can play Boil That Cabbage Down!
Been trying to learn the banjo for a year now. This is the BEST beginners instruction course I've come across so far!!! Thanks for taking the time to explain every nuance, from reading tabs to technique.
My husband bought his fender Banjo brand new 13 years ago and we just found your videos. He is learning for the first time. he is 60. He does play a little bit of guitar though. I am going to try and learn along with him :-)
I really appreciate you offering a song in the beginning. as a learner you want to hear what you are working for, not just theory about where to put your fingers.
Eli, i like your teaching style, like so many others i've played guitar for 40 years and have had a banjo sitting in its case for most of that time, i didn't try and play it because i was shocked at how heavy it is, hopefully with your straight no rubbish teaching style i will now put the guitar down and learn the banjo. thank you
My Washburn is heavy too. I bought a Lakota non cradle strap for mine. Hoping it helps even in the sitting position being that I'm in a wheelchair now🤗 best wishes. It's my firm belief everyone should make music and banjos are great🤗
LOVE this!! Eli breaks everything down into pieces that you can digest and assimliate. LOVING his lessons- thanks so very much for making this available :) Really making me LOVE the banjo! I had started lessons from a book with a CD and I was getting a little frustrated and discouraged but these lessons make it so much easier and do-able! Thanks much!! 😀
This lesson was just fantastic. I bought a banjo at the start of lockdown (a long time dream to play bluegrass) but have failed to progress. I felt uncomfortable - it felt cumbersome. The advice about getting situated and letting your hand relax was golden! You have reinspired me to keep nurturing that dream. Blessings from Wales 🙏
Hello Eli Gilbert, I only discovered your lessons today, I was immediately charmed by the approach of the lessons in 30 days. That seems like something for me. I already played clarinet and since a few years the guitar but I am stuck it does not give me satisfaction. Because of the movie Deliverance I came across your channel. Internet is still something fantastic I live thousands of miles from you and yet it seems close by. Greetings from Belgium (Europe)
I just turned 29. Getting into banjo kind of late but it's one of my favorite instruments. It doesn't sound like any other instrument and i can't wait to learn it. I left piano to learn the Banjo.
Eli, I have been trying to teach myself to play the banjo, I am so grateful for your video lessons and you are an amazing banjo player as well as a fantastic teacher
I heard that.🤗 I'm just trying to learn guitar now too. It's been much harder than banjo because of my short stubby fingers🤗you have the concept already down, no doubt you'll be good at it. Power on dude🤗
First of all, I wish to thank you for these great lessons on the 5 string. My resources are what lessons I get on the computer. I’ve checked out several teachers on the computer, but none of them measured up to what I need to learn. I get that from your lessons. So you have a new student. Let’s scrub A few off.
Just started this today, very happy with how you go about things. Have picked up and put down trying to learn over the past year after getting a banjo as a gift. Most tutorials seem to take a bit of knowledge for granted but you really break it down for scrubs like me. Looking forward to the next month
Eli - Thank you for this! I have had a banjo for several years but never the right lessons to get past day1! I love the fact that this is a 30 day program and look forward to reporting back at the end of a month!
Starting my journey today, I grew up playing guitar. My great uncle lived 4 states away and was a southwest picker. He's recently got dementia he was a child hood hero of mine and I now have the honor of receiving the his banjo I hope one day the fiddle to. Really looking forward to it.
I'm 61 years old will be 62 in a couple months. I've never had any music lessons .I'm drawn to the banjo because even when it's playing a sad song it still sounds so cheerful. There is something about its sound that draws me to it.
Elementary music teacher here...I am learning Banjo to prove to my students anyone can learn a new instrument....he explains this so well and simply I hope to use this same style with some kiddos who want to learn Banjo as well...
So, watching Band Perry, Gentle on My Mind, I said I want to learn banjo..in passing. Now I'm holding a banjo and learning to play thanks to my thoughtful wife! Thanks for your simple instructions. It's fun!
I got a banjo as a surprise for Christmas today. I love playing any instrument I can get my hands on and my mom said she wanted to hear more banjo around the house, so I spent most of the day getting everything set up to learn how to play for her. Now that I’m at the end of this lesson, I’m already in love with this instrument! It’s so pretty and I’m having so much fun with it, and I already have big dreams for songs I wanna play when my skill level gets there (mainly Rainbow Connection and Staring at the Stars since they’re my mom and I’s favorites) This has already been such a major help and I can’t wait to keep learning this amazing instrument with this series :)
Thank you for this series, I have always enjoyed the sound of bluegrass banjo, and my family gave me a five string for Christmas. This is my first string instrument to learn, previous instruments were percussion. I hope to be playing on a novice level by my 55th birthday in March
Amazingly played my brother I pray I can learn it as well as you played it I ain't played a banjo since I was 16 I'm 36 now and I'm hoping to get back into it I got a new one yet my dad ordered one for me it's supposed to be here Friday I bribed my nephew to find out what the surprise was I am excited and you make the best videos I've seen yet to help refresh or teach someone you amazing brother thank you
I just finished Eli's 30 days of banjo and I HIGHLY recommend it. Here's why.: I'd tried a couple banjo courses on TruFire and taken a few in person lessons over the years. Both were great but progress was slow and I would come and go from playing over the years. This course is EXCELLENT because it's designed in a way to keep motivated by your own progress. AND it goes into more detail (and in a more logical way) than some other courses I've tried. If you've never played banjo before, you're not going to get through this in 30 days. Learning the rolls will take at least 2 weeks on its own. But if you stick with it... put in 10-30 minutes or more a day you will see progress. Even if it takes you 90 days or more :) Also, Eli is an excellent teacher. He breaks things down in a way makes sense but his demeanour, his style, his energy is soooo perfect for teaching. Now, he may not be the right guy for you of course but I can GUARANTEE this course is worth a try. At least give it a few days. I can't believe this course is free. I would happily have paid $50 or more and been satisfied. 5 STARS!! ⭐️⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Thank you so much for this series! I've been having trouble finding lessons to start out with since November and this is already so clear and helpful!! What a great way to go into the new year!!
I've had this banjo for over 30 years. My brother-in-law won it in a card game and gave it to me since I play guitar. Always meant to try to play. So here I am starting now! Hoping to be able to accomplish this in 30 days!
If I'd started a few years later I'd have had a much easier time, with lessons like this. I also understand it's a matter of demand, but it'd be great to have "talking" courses like this for intermediate-advanced players rather that mostly tabs that you find online.
Just ordered my banjo today. Never played anything In my life. I ordered a Washburn B-10. I have no idea if it’s a good beginner Instrument but I’m eager to learn and practice while following your videos 👍🏻
Thank you Eli!! I've been playing the guitar & piano for over a decade now, but I need to come back to the basics for banjo. I appreciate you taking time to explain everything
Thank you. That's my biggest problem is getting my finger picks comfortable. I've started lessons a couple times in the past but my fingers started hurting around the cuticles of my nails and fingers and would stop playing for a few days and have to start all over again lol. But I love the banjo and have two now. I have a 5 string Harley Benton banjo and a Washburn B-17 Americana. I have new Snuffy Smith pegged head bridges and a new wooden arm rest I need to install on the Washburn along with new Elixir medium strings for both. I know more about the banjo itself than how to play it. But me myself, I think the banjo is one of the most beautiful sounds in life. Thank you have subscribed and will be following every lesson.
My Banjo arrives next week but i thought i`d watch the videos just to know what i`m letting myself in for, i play Guitar so i cant wait to get started on this really carefully thought out course,, Bravo!
So chill and so well explained! I was just able to afford my first banjo after years of wanting to learn how to play music. I'm very thankful for this resource!
I just bought a banjo and am so happy to have found these lessons! I learned guitar back in high school but I can already feel that this instrument might turn out to be my true love. 💗 Thanks for making these available! Off to practice! 🪕
Thanks so much for taking the time to walk us through banjo lessons. I can't imagine how much work you put into this so teaching it for free really amazes me. It's much appreciated.
ATTENTION! Don't forget to download the free tablature e-book! eligilbertbanjo.com/absolute-beginner-banjo-lessons/

I'm so GRATEFUL to hear all of this, brother-man!
So glad to hear you’re c-free love! I’m so impressed by this story! Thanks for the beautiful wholesomeness 💕

Awesome story man❤❤❤
Struggling through this, I really appreciate it. I hope to learn to play before my 60th birthday. This will be my first musical instrument. Thank you! Your an incredible good teacher!
I'm 60 now and starting over again on banjo and first time guitar. Patience and practice my friend. Best wishes to you!!!
Me too :-) Lets do this
I will be 50 in a month, this is one of my birthday presents. Just think, we both have plenty of time to get our 10,000 hours on banjo in!
I'm 26 and just happy to be along for the ride lol
Hi folk , 62 and just starting ! Hope I haven’t left it too late …..

Did you give up?
Mate just got to play your desk like a banjo, put strings on that sucker! (Still going btw)

It is refreshing to hear someone speak clearly, intelligently, and with a good audio level. Thank you for this video and for sharing your talent.
I encourage anyone with is just starting out on the banjo to keep watching Eli’s videos and stick with it.
I'm going to enjoy working through your course.
i am with you on that mine just got here pick it up tomorrow
@@joshuasmithey1679 I got it two days ago! I've been practicing this video and Jim Pankey's lesson #1. I'm excited for you man!
That's all you need my friend is desire patience and practice ,practice, practice. My very best wishes for your future beautiful banjo music. Lol I think the world would be a much better place if everyone had and played atleast one banjo🤗
Yoooooo! Same!
Can u play now?
You are a natural teacher. I am visually impaired but can follow you with audio alone. Thank you for the printed lessons as well, they are simple, clear and are very accessible enlarged. This is Day 1 and I am excited to get started.
Saw this and bought a banjo, such a pain in the ass driving home with it on my motorcycle 😂
😂😂😂❤
Now if I could only figure out what banjo I should get that I can afford.
hi john, did you end up getting one? I am looking at these and not sure which brand to invest in. was looking at these CELTIC 5-STRING BANJO from luna
Thank you so much for this! Coming from playing saxophone for 7~ish years, and just getting my late Grandpa's banjo, I really want to live this fun common interest between me and him...just wish he was here to enjoy it with me.
Same story here except I do not play saxophone haha
I’m also learning to play my grandfather’s banjo!!
Go and get em! 👍
How’d you make out?
That was the first tune I learned on the Dulcimer 👍🏻
Well? How did it go?
so, how did you do?
you are a saint, most video series assume you already have some experience with the instrument, ive played wind instruments all my life but this aint no trumpet.
thank you for actually starting at step 0
What banjo (make/model) did you end up buying? Looking into getting one myself
@@JD-pp3ml I got just a cheap one on amazon to start with. The company is Kmise, and its name on amazon is "Kmise Professional Banjo, 5 Strings 38'', 24 Brackets, Remo Drum Head, Removable Closed Sapele Back, with Banjo Beginner Starter Kit,Bag Tuner Strap Strings Pickup Picks Ruler Wrench Bridge"
I'm Happy with it as a starter banjo, but the finger picks that come with a "value pack" like this are pretty cheap so I would recommend buying some nice picks (10 - 15$) along side the banjo if you do get one like mine.
That's great I'm going to follow you as well I'm a third time beginner myself once banjo gets in your bones it seems to never leave🤗
Got my banjo yesterday. Started my first lesson today with you. Thanks so much for providing this information!
Have fun!
Best wishes to you Rin.
How’s it going??
@@bz6001 it’s been going great! I actually performed for a talent show about 3 months ago! I performed the first two songs that you taught in the lesson.
@@rinsworld that's so cool!! great job
Today I bought a Banjo off a sheer whim and was nervous that the world of Banjo would be too much all at once.
I have no gift at music and I am not in any sense educated in reading music.
This was incredibly helpful and now I don't feel like i'm in over my head.
Thank you so much.
I'm a lifelong musician (but not banjo!) and this is as well presented as anything I've ever seen. Bravo!!
Thanks Eli I’m just 12 but I am already getting good 😀
I got my very first old German Banjo one mounth ago! And The Day after boom! I've found your awesome tutorial. Blessings from Poland.
@Idk Idk He didn't say it was the first banjo ever made... I'm sure they're manufactured in Germany too.
My first banjo is on the way. I can't wait to get started!
Paul Lucas.
Glad to hear it Paul!
I tried starting to learn banjo last year and COVID interrupted. Decided to try again this year and stumbled on this first lesson. It was brilliant and looking forward to following along for the whole 30 days.
similar situation, my brother is really good at the banjo and he has a banjo but he doesnt use it so i borrowed it and started learning
I've started and stopped a couple times now. Never give up. Best of wishes and playing to you🤗
You are the most concise, clear spoken teacher ever. Thank you soooo much for doing what you do! I finally found the right teacher on here!
Received my 1st banjo today after 30yrs of guitar playing and I already know I'm gonna love it. Such a great sound.
for my 26th birthday my gf gave me a banjo, and I'm really excited to learn from your videos! Amazing content!
Great work.
Exactly what I was thinking!
I'm turning 55 and just starting this too! I bought a beautiful banjo for my adult son and he left it here. It's mine now!
Just picked up my first banjo today and stumbled across these videos!! Very excited to watch all these over the next 30 days!!
Guitar player for 15 years. Just got a banjo and this lesson seems like a great way to start. See you for 29 more days. Thanks for doing this!
It's been month, how'd you do?
@@CanadianCatastrophes unfortunately, life got in the way and I haven’t been practicing as much. Your comment will get me started again!
@@neilbrodsky2035 update?
It’s so pretty and I’m having so much fun with it, and I already have big dreams for songs I wanna play when my skill level gets there (mainly Rainbow Connection and Staring at the Stars since they’re my mom and I’s favorites)
This has already been such a major help and I can’t wait to keep learning this amazing instrument with this series :)
Thank you for this series, I have always enjoyed the sound of bluegrass banjo, and my family gave me a five string for Christmas. This is my first string instrument to learn, previous instruments were percussion. I hope to be playing on a novice level by my 55th birthday in March
Amazingly played my brother I pray I can learn it as well as you played it I ain't played a banjo since I was 16 I'm 36 now and I'm hoping to get back into it I got a new one yet my dad ordered one for me it's supposed to be here Friday I bribed my nephew to find out what the surprise was I am excited and you make the best videos I've seen yet to help refresh or teach someone you amazing brother thank you
Impression from the first 3 seconds: Man, I'd LOVE to learn Banjo from Harry Potter!
Just starting to learn on my great grandfather's banjo. Thank you for your wonderful lessons!
Thank you Mark!
@@EliGilbertBanjo Thank YOU ☺️
Thank you so much for this series! I've been having trouble finding lessons to start out with since November and this is already so clear and helpful!! What a great way to go into the new year!!
Glad to hear that!
I am so happy I have found these lessons I have had my banjo for 3 days and these lessons are amazing !!! ❤
Thank you! My grandpa just gave me his banjo but I have NO idea how to play! This helped me so much 😅 thanks a bunch!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
I've had this banjo for over 30 years. My brother-in-law won it in a card game and gave it to me since I play guitar. Always meant to try to play. So here I am starting now! Hoping to be able to accomplish this in 30 days!
I AM GETTING A BANJO AND HEARING THIS INTRO MADE ME SO EXCITED THANK YOU FOR MAKING THESE VIDEOS IT IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!😊
This course sounds perfect for me. I bought my first banjo three months ago. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Very good of you!! Cheers, Jon
Glad to hear it!
Glad to hear it!
Eli can i learn banjo in your style as i am missing the top of my picking fingers your method sounds great
Should be fine as long as you can reach the strings!
This series alone taught me how to play the banjo. Thank you Eli.
Thank you Eli!! I've been playing the guitar & piano for over a decade now, but I need to come back to the basics for banjo. I appreciate you taking time to explain everything
OK, Day one. Got my Banjo. It's cold outside, and by spring I should have it. Let's GO !!!!!!
Thank you. Bought a banjo today on a bit of a whim, and found your lessons and loving it. Brilliant
im on day 13 now and i cant believe how fast im learning very good videos
So chill and so well explained! I was just able to afford my first banjo after years of wanting to learn how to play music. I'm very thankful for this resource!
I just bought a banjo and am so happy to have found these lessons! I learned guitar back in high school but I can already feel that this instrument might turn out to be my true love. 💗 Thanks for making these available! Off to practice! 🪕
Thanks so much for taking the time to walk us through banjo lessons. I can't imagine how much work you put into this so teaching it for free really amazes me. It's much appreciated.
