KUDOS to Chevy! Like the design theme & the fact that your creating your own path(with respect to designs) & not jumping on Hyundai' s wagon like "Bored" I mean Ford & Chrysler! I thought the out going Malibu was nice to look at actually but this Is very unexpected.Keep up the great work. And remember "Lead Not Follow"....

Chevy's have Forced Lighting. This means that on a hot, sunny day you are running lights unnecessarily, and burning additional gasoline. Unlike other cars, they cannot be switched off on a Malibu.
Toyota has chosen the proper approach. ALL 2016 Toyota's have "DRL OFF" on the light switch. If you want to drive with lights on during the daytime, you can, if you don't want to, you can turn them off. Makes everyone happy. These are true, Daytime Running Lights. What Chevy has, and some others have, is actually called, Forced Lighting. With Forced Lighting, the driver has NO control, and is at the total mercy of the programmers in Detroit.
Far from being considered primarily as a 'safety feature', manufacturers and the motoring press are treating DRLs as a 'stylish addition' to a car, concentrating on the look of DRLs as adding character to a car rather than contributing to its safety.
If waiting for someone outside at night I may not want my lights on. I also like to go to drive-in movies, people react badly when you're shining lights in their eyes.

+KrellLab So, how much "additional gasoline" does a LED DRL require? I doubt if it's even measurable. And I, for one, would much rather all cars have "forced lighting", for the very reason manufactures opt to go in that direction. Forced Lighting assures that your vehicle will be more visible during daylight hours, regardless of whether or not the operator decided or remembered to turn on the DRLs.

Toyota has chosen the proper approach. If you want to drive with lights on during the daytime, you can, if you don't want to, you can turn them off. Makes everyone happy. These are true, Daytime Running Lights. What Chevy now has, and some others have, is actually called, Forced Lighting. With Forced Lighting, the driver has NO control, and is at the total mercy of the programmers in Japan / Detroit.
Possibly due to buyer dislike, General Motors has petitioned the government on two separate occasions to mandate Forced Lighting (aka DRLs) in the US. In BOTH instances, the government turned General Motors down citing NO safety evidence. Moreover, notice that most law enforcement vehicles have their Daytime Running Lights disconnected. Certainly the cities that do this care about their officer safety. But they know, that it doesn't matter.
A British study said that statistics about DRLs from eight European countries over a 15-year period show that road fatality rates dropped faster in non-DRL countries such as Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands than fatalities in pro-DRL countries such as Finland, Norway and Sweden. Indeed, Austria has gone as far as to BAN Daytime Running Lights.
Finally, far from being considered primarily as a 'safety feature', manufacturers and the motoring press are treating DRLs as a 'stylish addition' to a car, concentrating on the look of DRLs as adding character to a car rather than contributing to its safety. To me, many cars with DRLs look like they are driving around with a Christmas tree on the front of their car.
DRLs only increase the chance of contributing to an accident as they are increasing the chances of dazzling oncoming drivers while traveling.
Avoiding Forced Lighting (aka DRLs) is easy to do. You have to make it a condition of the sale at the time of purchase. The dealer can easily accomplish this. Or buy Toyota, they have DRL OFF on the light switch.

KrellLab -- The new Chevy Malibu does NOT have Forced Lighting. I own a fully loaded 2017 Chevrolet Malibu premier and YES you can manually turn OFF the lights. Do your homework first before criticizing since it seems you’re in love with a foreign car.

It looks like something a Sonata would produce after being knocked up by an Impala.
Why would I buy this when so many other cars are out there doing this particular style better?
    I hate this thing.

The 1.5 Ecotec Turbo with 163 hp and 184 lb-ft is for the LS, RS and LT trims. In this later Premier LTZ, it is the 2.0 Ecotec Turbo with 250 hp and 260 lb-ft with 8-speed automatic transmission.
In the seventh generation, the V6 3.6 VVT in its most powerful version (LY7) generated 252 hp and 251 lb-ft with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Considering the 300 pounds less compared to the previous generation (in turn, the lightest in the D segment), this ninth generation does not need a V6, on the contrary it would be a burden.
As for the total transmission, this represents a fraction of the sales in general brands and even in premium ones; The Audi A4, Volvo S60, Acura TLX (UB1), Buick Regal and MKZ are FWD as standard.
