Damn about time lol. Been watching half assed reviews on this for a few months....I needed this. Now I’ll just wait for the price to drop a bit.... maybe get lucky around the holidays.
im glad that he mentioned that android auto has pinch to zoom capabilities which means Apple CarPlay could support it in the future with this unit. I don't see any cons about this except for price but ill just hold out and wait to see how far it drops for the holidays. I would love to gain the extra din space to put things in my car too.
Took ya long enough to review this! I bought the smaller one and love it. This one was going to be too large for my dash. Like you mentioned, it is packed with every feature.

You know, I'd spend like $2k if someone could make a unit just as responsive as a smart phone. Why can't we just have that?? You'd think Pioneer would team up with Samsung or LG or SOMEONE and give us a good and responsive screen

The response with the screen isn’t too bad I just got mine a couple weeks ago I guess it’s a newer model I don’t know if it makes a difference but I love it
To be fair are you going to scroll on this when your driving no if you have the fast control bluetooth with it. So I can see why they didn't include a feature like this. You eyes should be on the road not on a screen.
Bro just shove an iPad in there and save 1000$ it makes no sense why the entire head unit market is like using an old Nokia with a 1990s touchscreen.

I just bought mine from Cartoys with the wiring and the bracket it was $1500 with free installation and lifetime installation warranty and I love it it’s really great hands-free calling and texting Pandora and everything and it’s set up for a rearview camera but you have to buy the camera separate I love it I’ll put it in my 2014 impala limited and it’s great

Nice thorough review... Best I seen yet. Maybe the Display should of been able to be removed and placed in trunk or in the house for safe keeping overnight. I would be replacing AVH 4200NEX I own an older car

So if you use the vehicle’s built-in GPS (with the idatalinkmaestro SAT adapter cable)... instead of Pioneer’s included GPS cable ... you don't get wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto?

One question, can you assign the camera inputs as favorites? I'd like to access a front camera quickly while parking.
I wouldn't say that this stereo has "favorites" but you can move the camera source to your home screen!

This is just sad Pioneer could have done so much with this. I don't like how they dropped a lot of features from the outgoing flagship model, the 8500NEx. There's no more auto eq, which I liked
Also and this is a biggie for me, but no integrated SD card reader for strorage? Truly a huge oversight. Especially with the ability to have a forward, backward or even a dash cam u can record your driving experience (for accident protection) or dash cam action ( imagine a theif stealing your car only that your car can record him in action with a dash cam??) Truly huge oversights. Remember, our cheapest cell phones can record HD video. Why they didn't let this one is beyond me
But the screen is pretty, crappy but pretty. Nothing a $200 tablet from 2017 can't do.

I have 2015 jeep jk. Just installed this unit. Lots of handshake issues (hotspot, carav, alexa, wifi). Seems each time i get in the jeep nothing connects automatically. Especially frustrating with alexa. Also will the maestro rr work with a 2015 jeep jk? If so, point me to it on your website
My only gripe with this unit is the sound settings pages, they aren’t full scale to the screen it makes it look like they have been pulled of a 7” display model to cut corners.

I know, I just installed it in my truck. I love it with one complaint. It doesn’t have a
“Bass Boost” feature in the audio settings.
I usually keep my bass boost at 2 out of 5. It gives my DD 700 series the BANG it needs that flexes my doors.
Other than that, I love it .
It would be fantastic if changing the track from steering wheel controls actually worked on carplay. So much to ask for in a firmware update.
Not sure what you drive but it works perfectly for me...just make sure they sale you the correct harness
@@mrromerorobinson1982 wiring was fine. I changed some steering wheel controls in the idatalink. I found the seek option changes the songs in carplay. I had preset as press once, seek as hold. Interesting that it still didn’t work that way. But anyway it seems odd, preset should be set as track+ in other sources. I had no issue in my avic-w8400nex, where I could control both radio presets and flip to the next track in carplay on one press. I was using pac steering wheel control at the time. All I’ve read is that this a firmware issue as idatalink doesn’t no what source I’m in, it just sends the commands to the head unit.
@@mrromerorobinson1982 if pioneer updates their firmware to preset +/- to change tracks in carplay or other sources, the problem is fixed. Or have an option for HD Radio, what the seek control does. Cycle thru presets or seek to the next available radio station.

Yes it does. Whatever you see on your phone it will show on the pioneer screen when using hdmi except you have to control it from your phone since the screen will be non responsive
Only thing it looks like it won't take up the whole screen tho. Its a narrow scale picture. It would be cool if you could utilize the whole screen

Do you have to install the gps antenna somewhere fancy or can you just install it hidden in the dash somewhere?
In the older nex units you can place the the antenna on top of the radio metal casing and it worked flawlessly
@@3swyndal I've been having an issue where everytime I start my truck I have to disconnect my phone then reconnect it to get apple carplay to work. It's like it's trying to run USB media instead and causes bluetooth connection issues or something. Maybe it needs an update.
@@KeepinItSteezyy possibly my 8000nex went through a weird phase where Bluetooth intermitting I did a firmwareupdatr and it fix that bug hopefully that will solve your issue as well!!

Some of the audio settings get muted out when you're not in a music source. Select a music source then go into the settings

Does it have a Pioneer built-in navigation (GPS) like other older models in addition to google maps and waze? It helps a lot when the phone loses cell connection.

I do not know of a way to to that.
