Great video! I was in a audio store just a couple days ago and finally settled on the Kenwood. Honestly the volume knob was what won me over.
The knob is super convenient. I have the alpine Ilx-f309 and I hate the up down volume control

I also think the tactile volume knob is a huge benefit, able to adjust the volume in small/large increments quickly without looking. The bonded screen is also amazing for daylight performance, but those bezels! Yikes!

Just installed the JVC. Kenwood was out of stock, I too wanted the volume knob. After acclimating myself with the other forms of volume control, I realized the steering wheel volume controls were my favorite which did not change with new radio. I have not been able to dim the screen at night tho and that is a huge problem.
I have the Kenwood 990hd with WiFi like the Pioneer and it works great. I use my phones hotspot (and home WiFi when there) doesn't skip a beat. I usually only buy Pioneer, but this Double Din has everything I want/needed.

I have a Tundra, was trying to decide between the 1057XR or 1037S, but the Pioneer caught my eye. But after this video. I’m going with Kenwood.
LOL, in the year 2024, I did the same thing in my tundra bought 1wk ago. Never had a toyota but bro, I expect long long term engine and tranny reliability. Ive seen nothing but insane reviews. So far, I love it. Been 25yrs of Fords with my last rocking to 260k miles before tranny slips. This toyota, for the same year and 200k miles with routine engine, differencial, adn trans mission drains, 1 owner, the guy took care of it. I plan to run it with great maintenance for another 200k miles based on what Ive see on forums andf their reliability.

Thanks for the comparison info, love the channel. You mentioned how the Pioneer unit was somewhat laggy. In several different models of digital multimedia receivers, customers reviews have had this complaint. Could the mention of the issue good or bad be part of the reviews on other models. It would also be interesting to have a quick showdown of the most popular units and the pros and cons related to their responsiveness.
Wish there was a 9 inch model of the Kenwood. The pioneer 9” just barely clears my air vents
Kenwood all day long . Better look and dimensions , volume knob major major plus!! Hdmi inputs are better placed rca voltage better, and the 0 screen glare finally . Kenwood has this down just make it single din version.

Just returned pioneer as it was nothing but problems. Crutchfield exchanged for the KENWOOD looking forward to the improvement.

One major difference. Many people have not discovered yet.. I have been using kenwood & found it to be only head unit which played my 2tb external hard disk.. Yes u heard me right... Whereas I installed pioneer in other car & it disappointed me for not been able to play it.
I bought the JVC kw-z1000 I was looking at the the kenwood and I just couldn’t get into the knob 😕. I’m pretty excited tho tomorrow I’ll be getting my JVC installed! Thanks for the shoutout btw I’m really glad I found your channel!

I just got this and love it I stream Netflix TH-cam vudu any of my.subscription services via screen sharing and samsung dex. Just connect the parking brake wire to the black ground wire and drive on.

Just ordered the pioneer mainly cuz well its wireless but for the main reason to make it look close to oem as possible so also won’t block the vents
You forgot to mention that the pioneer has a option to mount the face remotely if you buy the adapter cable. That makes for much more flexibility in mounting. Hopefully kenwood, alpine and sony will start offering that on their floating displays.
I used the two brands Kenwood In my Nissan 200sx Pioneer in My Mitsubishi Mirage. They are good brands.
How do these handle heavy duty trucks and rough interstates? Handle hitting pot holes in a 1 ton truck with a large camper trailer constantly?

I keep my vehicles for a every long time 10yrs + which brand would you recommend for long-term reliability i just had a Kenwood go out at apox.5 yrs my Tundra is out lasting Is my upgraded systems.
I need to keep the size at or below 9” because of my dash design. The pioneer offers a smaller cleaner face. Id like to see these with smaller edge bezel.
Are there any screens that are floating and can tilt up and down and also left to right?
Mate can do a comparison with Atoto s8 ultra 10.1”

Breakers, do you have a photo like a template to show the size of the the 1059? Pioneer has one so I can see how much of the dash it takes over. Would like to have one from Kenwood. I commented on one of their 1059 videos but no reply yet. Disregard. I took a stock photo and printed it out. Not sure if Adobe would print it to scale but using my Mac and the Review app, I set print to 35.5% of scale and it came out pretty darn close. I'm now looking at the Kenwood Excelon DDX9907XR as these floating panels are just too large for this car. I could deal with the Pioneer size, Kenwood is just too big. In a semi, yeah it would be the bomb. Ordered and received the Pioneer unit, currently installing it. Kenwood, maybe next time. They must be selling a ton of them as they are out of stock. Just too dang huge for my application.

I found a right angle micro HDMI cable...It has 1080p and 4k .. would this work as a substitute for the 8600. I haven't found any cables that are only 1080p

What's the actual display area minus the black bezel on the Kenwood?
So basically the Pioneer is the iPhone 3GS and the Kenwood is the iPhone 4. That is what Apple did to the screens back in 2010. Damn didn't realize that car receiver tech is that ancient. At least they are finally using capacitive touch now. Kenwood added a bit of LOCA adhesive to the glass to make it bonded.

What’s the max volume for both ?
Less than 3 minutes in to the review and the double Din mentioned will not work in my motorhome. I really like the knob idea, but the Pioneer with single Din's remote looks easy to navigate in a hurry if you need to hit the mute button. As crazy as it sounds my dash has a perfect spot for me to put some Velcro on it and stick the remote right next to the driver side of the dash, so I'll go that route. Great reviews, BTW.

If you need dj equipment than buy pioneer, but when it comes to car audio kenwood and alpine are the kings.

Back in the 80’s I had all the above for my car stereos but not anymore 😂😂😂😂😂 I will update my factory speakers but thats about it. Like I said, I want a nice unit like the Kenwood you just reviewed here. I have a 2012 Suzuki Equator truck
I will like everything wireless and apple play for sure. My question is, would this unit be too much money just to use factory speakers with no amp? I love the size as I am getting older I can see the screen much better. What would be another option that can give me 8 to 9 inches? i bought a kd-1280 wish i had one of these
I wanted the jvc version, but its too expensive. Then the screen is huge for a 10 in. I went with pioneer. It looks sleek and doesn’t look too bulky. I like it much better. As far as the day driving goes with the screen it looks great. Tbh its not like anyone is mainly focused on the screen while driving. You just glance at it. The pioneers brightness is good. Tbh I like it better than the jvc/kenwood.

My point as well. The Pioneer fits my car but I like the Kenwood specs better. Too bad I no longer live near Oxnard to hook up with Breakers. The extra 1 -1/2" covers up my HVAC controls.

thank you for sharing this video looking at this unit right now, but only thing that confuse me now is the 5V output of the JVC & Pioneer because my DSP3 Helix only have 4v input. reading the car audio forum discussion it will clip on Digital analog converter. that's why i can't decide which way to go..

3 times I have to swab ,still telephone conversations background noise ,blowers etc. picked up for the other side person hearing, please check if Kenwood
does it, noises reduction there,vs pioneer nex 8600, which is better.

I have had the Pioneer WT8600NEX in my 4Runner for about a year now. I like it but the biggest issue I have is it reboots at random and seems to do it once every other time I get in my truck to drive. Also the internal fan is super loud at times (when the music is turned low lol). Not sure what that is about. Definitely a design flaw. Really thinking about getting the Kenwood deck and getting rid of my Pioneer deck.
Have you Tried to reset the radio or have you seen if there is an update for the software yet on pioneers website? If all that is good call Pioneer tech to see if they can help. They may have a solution for you. (800) 832-4227

I have questions, both seem to have every function of a dsp, except per channel equalization (Global on both) how hard would it be to include or modify theses HU in order to have per channel equalization? Would doing that step in too many toes in the 12volt community of manufacturers? Maybe an app, at $10 monthly? That might be easier to swallow than $250+ of hardware and installation expenses?

These radios don’t have a cd/dvd. Look at the Jensen CAR8000 that has a CD/DVD. We made a video comparing it against the JVC screen. Check it out

I have the JVC KW-Z1000W. It works great with Wireless Dex. It turns your stereo into an Android tablet. You can do this with the JVC KW-Z1000W, Kenwood DMX1057XR, and Kenwood DNR1007XR.
Does the Kenwood have navigation and come with a remote?

An optional remote is sold separately for the Kenwood.
There is no built-in NAV. But this unit has wired & Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, so you can use and control your Smartphone's Maps & NAV features through the Large Touchscreen and via Voice Commands thru Siri or Google Assistant.
It works great and IMO Google Maps is better than 95% of the built-in offerings.

No. There is a bracket in the center of the hole. That bracket and part of the flat panel to it needs to be removed/modified. If you need any help or pics HMU.

You should do a comparison between Pioneer and Alpine ILX-F309. I have F309 now and thinking about switching to Pioneer. What do you think about the switch? I like Alpine but they do not update the firmware and I feel like they are very restrictive, can’t do background or watch TH-cam videos
I like the alpine unit. I actually have one in our company van. Now the pioneer is good but I actually like the eq options on the alpine vs the pioneer. But have you tried to use the hdmi input to Mirror your phone for TH-cam?
@@BreakersStereo i have not tried mirroring via HDMI because the port is located in the back of the unit and i have it installed in 2011 Mustang with Metra dash kit that allows top mount and metra controls HVAC on the bottom. Think now, i can run HDMI cable underneath the unit in the cargo pocket.
How good is wireless carplay? Alpine is only wired. I’m just trying to figure out is Pioneer or Kenwood is an upgrade or more of a lateral step?
Also, have you guys ever combined metra dash kit and maestro rr? I miss the maestro rr functions that i had with MUS1 kit, but i could not take how ugly it was.

I'm ready to upgrade the MFT in my F-150, but Alpine isn't exciting me with anything. These two are pretty nice, but thinking it will be either a DDX-9907s or AVH-W4500NEX.

Yes I know. Even the new Alpine ILX-F411 doesn’t have wireless! But either the DDX9907s or AVH-W4500NEX are great. I believe the Kenwood has more features thou. We did a video on the DDX9707s which is very similar in the non-Excelon line. And THANKS glad you like the videos!

Bonded screen means bonded now, separating later possibly. I have seen both of these and the Kenwood screen is incredible, too big for my dash sadly so going with the Pioneer.

You will need a maestro oem integrator for steering wheel controls to work. That will be extra 200 dollars

Does your TL have a double din factory radio/head unit? Of you have the double din head unit from factory it should fit without any problem.
