🤣🤣🤣! This is so funny! In my case I started with the V1 on the flat and kept doing it all the time. I sometime stalled skiing up-hill as I did not know how to be efficient in my off-set. I kept doing the V1 all the ti e as it is a symmetrical movement and I prefer symmetrical movements! I guess the simplest thing would have been to take the time to learn both skating technics which have completely different timing. This season I finally learned the offset wow is it ever fun going up-hill using that technic! 🤣🤣🤣. Thank you for that video which gives some idea on how to learn the V1 as it makes me realize how lucky I am to find that skating technic so easy.

Very interesting. What helped me to master the V1 skate is pretty close to the drill you have shown. I double poled while standing on one foot and I kept double polling alternating the foot on which I was standing.Once I was able to do that without loosing my balance I started doing the leg skating action. It took me a very long time to be able to do it but my balance doing the V2 is now very good and my gliding ski is flat and straight in my direction of travel. WHen skating on the flat I do not go from side to side which seem to indicate that this wide V action when skating on the flat is really due to a lack of balance which cause most skiers to not stay long enough on the ski that is propelling you forward.

Very nice observation and a very nice drill to break the habit of doing off-set on the flat. Thank you for sharing.

    Nice vid, thanks!
I tried for year with all the coach drills in the book. I am a slow student.
What eventually made it happen for me, is figuring out how to not bend the knees on lift-off. Once I understood how to keep the leg straight and aft, in a lazy type of hang-motion, I got the long strokes and balance. The hind leg is an awesome stabilizer. It aids getting the long glide needed to recover the poles in time, without having to rush it just to make it a V2. My V1 is still a mess.

thanks for your video! in trying to learn how to V2 i've watched many videos on youtube. your "pizza" technique made sense to me in a way other descriptions did not. i was able to V2 successfully for the first time this weekend.

I think it is because most skiers have trouble gliding for very far and hence the quick V1 timing works better. Also note that the 1 skate is tiring for the average person since it is using a double pole and leg push with each part of the technique. So you are right the extra strain on the arms with 1 skate does mean that it is more work. I suggest doing the 1 skate slowly -trying to emphasis glide and this will help you move across the snow with less energy.

thanks! 1:00 I tried the pizza drill on my roller-skis. I actually double-pushed on one leg .. then pushed with the leg .. and then let it run while on 2 skis (instead of one)... and lifted the inner-ski again .. double-push.. - angle the inner-ski - and push with the outer leg.

I'm very sure this video's gonna help me, because I try to do v2 skate exactly like it's shown in the beginning of the video - I've tried the v2 skate since almost a year now but I know why it still doesn't work. Great work, thank you!

Greetings! Thank you for the videos, they are so helpful. One thing I find useful in my practice is the "unweighting up and forward" in my glide phase, just before and to facilitate the poling action. I.e., in glide we have flexion, extension (unweighting), flexion (to load ski) and finally extension on push-off. However, I dont see any accent on up and forward unweighting element in your videos... But why? : D
