Revisiting my touhou phase, I can see why I loved this so much. The fan base has a lot of passion, and there are incredible fan made animes and products. Touhou and its fandom has a charm that no other franchise can replicate, and for that I’m grateful. I really hope that this fanbase stays the same forever and never dies. Thank you, Zun, for this masterpiece of a franchise (no matter how soul-sucking your character art is)
Also, ZUN said that Yuugi fighting without spilling her sake is a reference to Jonathan fighting Jack the Ripper without spilling his wine. Sakuya has several Spellcards referencing Jack the Ripper. So Yuugi fighting Sakuya not only references Jonathan vs Dio or Jotaro vs Dio, but also Jonathan vs Jack the Ripper.
I know it's been a year since this comment, but it likely IS made by a studio. The creator of Touhou allows people to create and sell any fanmade content of Touhou is the assets are original. So, there isn't an official Touhou anime because the creator doesn't allow it as it would distract from fanmade works. So, all Touhou anime are fanmade, done typically by a group of people

There isn't a Touhou anime partially because ZUN doesn't want to go into that medium and because he has other dilemmas such as not wanting official voice actors. He's answered the question many times in different ways such that it's more like a bunch of small reasons rather than one big reason. Some of those reasons were also given a long while back as to why he didn't want to make an official manga, yet here we are now with a large number of official manga. The voice actor problem is something that's changed with time as well, as he originally had a problem back when Summer's Day Dream came out with any professional voice actors even in fan content, but changed his policy not long after, and then last year endorsed a game with professional voice actors. Essentially, there are a number of reasons he's given, but none of them are sure to stay the same. While unlikely, an official anime could come at some point.

Came back almost 3 years later, I still remember how I just got into the Touhou pit, and didn't recognize most of the characters besides Reimu & Marisa, also how I actually hyped for this fanime.
Ive rewatched this so many times,yet this is the first time ive noticed that the other character in the car at the beginning with Koishi is actually Kokoro whom I thought was Satori,because the character right next to her was Koishi and both characters also had pink hair and that shes also either playing with a PSP or a Playstation Vita.I cant tell because Im pretty sure I've never had owned either.But I was kinda suprised when I saw her,also shes wearing a Stone Mask,guess ill also point that out,and also the fact that Yuuka has a Threepeater instead of,something that fits her like,yknow,a Sunflower?or a Twin Sunflower at best.Irony.
So I found this opening three years ago, and only _just_ figured out that the badass biker woman is _Byakuren_ of all people, the all-loving hardcore Buddhist.

Honesly, if I keep falling into Touhou phases every few months for about 10 years now, it's proof enough that it's a golden franchise.
I relate, this was so nostalgic. Best thing is Touhou never lost it's charm. A true classic even in the modern era.
