G'day, Thought I'd mess about and experiment with some old saw blades. Turns out it works flawlessly as a tungsten tipped parting off blade. Very happy !
I have been making part off blades for some years now, i get good quality saw blades worn ones from flee markets, its cutting them out of the saw blade as accurate as posible then trim with a sharp file i made my own holder you get a lot of blades out of a saw blade, i part off upto 50mm (2inch) bar, keep them sharp & one will last a long time, 🇬🇧👍from Coventry in UK.

Well done sir. Way back, (early 1990's) I worked for a sharpening service. The braze on the carbide is extremely robust. Remember, those blades turn at 3000 plus rpm. Worst case, the carbide will break before the braze lets go. Keep up the great work!
Hey mate, thanks for the info… Yeah I probably should have realized this. Especially with the panel saw blades from work. They spin quick! I think I was just more concerned at the fact that it was going from timber to cutting steel… But then again, braze is braze and carbide is carbide, right !? Oh absolutely someone else’s idea. I’ve had a heap of feedback (on different groups) how they’ve been doing it for years etc. I’m not trying to claim it by any means. you do know blowing air on grinding tools can play havoc on the ways with the grinding dust? you ultimately have a sand blaster in your hand. great use of the old saw blade though.
Well aware. That’s why I clean stuff during and afterwards. Typically don’t aim the air towards ways etc as well if I can help it. My ways are always covered in leather as well. The Vise I don’t give a shit about because it’s rubbish anyway. 👍

It’s like everything really… someone has already done it somewhere 😆 As for speeds… a few guys have made different suggestions on a fb group I’m on. I used to run slow… it’d jam up and scare the shit out of me. Then switched to fast… had good results but was to scared to power feed. So I bit the bullet (manned up 😆) and tried all different combos while power feeding. Mid speed and upped the feed rate a smidge is the outcome. Speed is somewhere between 350 & 450rpm. Not sure cause it seems off a bit. Yet to test it properly.
super idea and fast to do. can’t be any worse than those crappy import tools and it’s a great way to use up those old blades everybody keeps around “just in case” and never actually get used. i also like that if i screw up the first one(or three) i’ve got plenty of “extras”! keep up the work. great post

Well… this is how lucky I got, I didn’t even get a chance to measure the width of the blade… I just ground the crappy edge off… and it fit 😆 True story. Dead set fluke. The sort of fluke that will never happen again in my next 10 lifetimes 😆👍
maybe you can build one of those camera rigs like what inheritance machining made, might come in handy. instead of missed shots or a camera in your chest/face. he's on youtube
Hi mate. I actually have. I have a rack running along the entire wall, with like a boom. The problem is the camera mount itself. I need to make something better. If I do it up by hand it slips. So I crank it with pliers now 😬 Yeh I’ve been subbed to inheritance for a while. He does great work.

Feed rate I know is one up from my slowest… which is useless to you 😆 I don’t know that my speeds are accurate though. Unfortunately I’ve already broke the tip off. I had a piece of steel that gave me real grief and I thought I’d try the new one on it. Knackered it. Partly my fault I think. Went a bit hard and a little too much stick out. Anyway… I’m still learning too with it. I’ll make another. Probably grind it a little different also.
