    Thought welded safety chains was not the go now.

      Things may have changed since the video, but at the time welding the chains pointing forward was legal (not pointing down)

    You don't think showing the making of the draw bar was more important than showing how rusty the old one was? Would have been handy

      Yes, I would agree, however being such a critical part of the structure I wouldnt recommend it being a DIY type job. I had a pro measure up and weld it all in place for me.

      It’s been a while but generally I use what I can find at a hardware store, in most cases White Knight metal shield.

    Great video mate. How did you check that drawbar & hitch dead centre when
    fitting it ? I'm about to do something similar. Well done & good luck with it. Cheers Rod...

      I had a specialist (welder) do the job, but how he measured it up was to use the front spring hanger that's welded to the chassis as the guide. So we positioned the draw bar to the same location as the original and tacked it on one side only, then measured from the spring hanger to the hitch ball, then measure the other side spring hanger to the hitch again. Both measurements should be spot on, then you know that the draw bar is true to the chassis spring hangers. There may be another way, but this was the best option for us. Cheers.

    hi rover. did you get the it passed ok? looking to do mine too. Also did you get a engineering cert.? looks great

    • @rovertasmania7033
      @rovertasmania7033  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      All passed fine and no cert needed. I had a certified welder do the job anyway. Very happy with it, better than new back then.

    • @rovertasmania7033
      @rovertasmania7033  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on what tradesman you get, but it cost around $400 for materials (including new hitch and jockey wheel) and another $400 to weld it all up in place.

      Total price of replacing the draw bar?

    • @rovertasmania7033
      @rovertasmania7033  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      From memory it ended up being about $400 all up, but thats from people I know. I suspect it could of been more like $600.
