  • Jason Christie has 10 FLW wins and 8 Bassmaster wins. He is a 10 time Bassmaster Classic Qualifier and the 2022 Bassmaster Classic Champion. Christie has accumulated an incredible 4 million dollars in winnings, making him one of the most feared names in professional bass fishing. But what scares him? That question, as well as many other awkwardly honest questions are answered on this week’s Mercer Podcast.
    Please help me thank Jason Christie for doing this week’s show by following his TH-cam channel youtube.com/@C...

      That whole grow the sport thing is SO STUPID. You want to grow the sport?!? Grow it where?!? There aren't any more lake being built. There's a finite amount of water out there. There's no room to grow the sport unless we're gunna start building more lakes and have more places to fish

    I was talking with my dad who I fish team derby’s with about how livescope has changed things and he said something that I’ve never thought of. He said TH-cam (social media in general) has changed bass fishing more than anything else in the history of the sport. You can go from not having any idea of how to catch a bass to pretty proficient in fishing quicker than you ever have before. You don’t need a mentor or father figure to teach you how to do something all the info you need to be a stick is out there online at the push of a button. Way easier for kids to learn now than ever before.

    Jason came along after I stopped fishing pro level events so I’ve never met him. He is a really great interview and has a good UTube channel. Let Jason know that in Lake Erie the smallies don't like snakes either. In early summer there is a snake pattern. Find the snakes close to the islands you will find big smallies. The key is to make the snake go under water. Then you will see what happens lol. Also thanks for great show every week Dave. Always look forward to Wednesday!!

    Dave your lucky to get the fisherman that taught me a lot of juice since I retired, I’m 69 yrs old and got a knee replacement and started watching u tube and found Jason Christie. I thought I knew a lot, but boy was I wrong! LOL I absolutely love my spinnerbait more than I love my ex wife, well that didn’t sound right, but I taught myself how to slow roll it right of the bottom and caught the silly out of them. And a single Colorado right under the surface shallow over big rocks dang man that’s as good as my buzz bait! Next time get him to talk about technique with his frog please? I still have to check my hooks on that dang frog every time I loose one, to see if I got hooks one it! LMAO!!! Keep the faith! And remember Jesus was a hell of a fisherman too!!!👍🥸🙏

    Being in the boat with Jason several times…when he was smashing them and when he was struggling. He has the same demeanor either way…straight up steely focused on every cast and a first class Pro. I can confirm his feeling about snakes…seen it first hand…lol. The real concern with ffs is not in bass fishing. Its in crappie, walleye fishing. Fish that people harvest. On a local lake its already has a big impact on the crappie population, this according to the DNR. Theres a guy locally who posts on a crappie fb page, he fishes almost everyday and limits it out most of the time. 15 crappie a day. Lets say he limits out 15 days a month. 15 fish a day. Multiply that over a year and thats just one guy. I dont believe its gonna hurt bass fishing in the long run but i believe its gonna devestat the crappie fisheries

    These companies that sponsor anglers should stop putting these quotas or minimums for what the anglers need to do because it puts limits on what they'll get. I believe anglers like Jason are the minority who go above and beyond. Drop the quotas and find the guys that want to bust there butt to push there product and get rid of the ones who don't want to work.

    • @factsoffishing

    The reason you cant advance in other sports in as little as one year is because theyre regulated to the point only your talent/performance allows you to advance. Now in bass fishing with FFS anglers with no foundation in the sport can compete with tour veterans and beat them consistently with FFS. People can deny this but its fact. From Florida to Canada 95% of tournaments are dominated with FFS. This will and has forever changed to sport no matter a persons opinion about it..

  • @cjr4497
    @cjr4497 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I have been trying to watch the MLF on Toledo. It is unwatchable. FFS is ruining the spectator aspect of the sport. It is miserable. The only good part of yesterday was when Ott caught some on the bank with a buzzbait.

  • @garrettsmith6886
    @garrettsmith6886 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I like Jason, but I disagree. The guys who came on the elites this year had to prove themselves in 9 events, smallmouth and largemouth at diverse fisheries. Compared to guys like him who only had to qualify through 3 events fishing basically the same way. I think these 9 open qualifiers will be better than the guys who came in after doing well at 3 opens that were all 2 hours from their house. And it’s not like there hasn’t been a long list of guys who qualified for the elites through the 3 open system and fell off immediately and didn’t re-qualify.
    We asked for the sport to grow, and it did. Now you have people under 25 cleaning house. It’s naturally going to attract better talent the bigger the sport gets.

    • @factsoffishing
      @factsoffishing  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for watching Garrett, Not sure where Jason said the guys this year were less talented. Maybe I missed it but it sure does not sound like something Jason would say

    • @garrettsmith6886
      @garrettsmith6886 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@factsoffishing he didn’t say less talented and I want to be clear I’m not putting words in his mouth. I have a lot of respect for Jason, but from around 13:00 to 17:18 he was alluding to the path people take now just qualifying through the opens is easier which he questioned their “longevity” potential. I was simply saying if these new qualifiers can fish against the best field of opens and have to do it on 9 separate diverse fisheries to qualify for the elites then I would hedge my bets on their longevity versus someone who qualified through 3 events in the same region.
      Again nothing negative against Jason or you, just my armchair quarterback opinion.
