I live in the Sonoran desert in Arizona and adore Dixon's work. Its how he stylizes his images that I love the most. Painting in the desert has its bonuses as well as its hazards. The plants are all so sculptural.

I grew up in New Mexico (USA) where Dixon lived and painted for part of his life. I have never thought he got the recognition he deserved for his genius outside of the western U.S. Thanks for highlighting his work. By the way, although it looks like oil and gouache, I think he worked exclusively in oils. Some of his canvases are extremely large.
Hi Darla...I live in Tucson and there are lots of Dixon works here. There aren't many watercolors, you're right, but there are a few, mainly studies for larger oil paintings. Dixon is one of my very favorite painters here in the southwest.
Wow! Love those paintings! Good video to see as I get set to paint a scene from the Atacama Desert in Chile. The Teepeea are made from buffalo skins. The flat tops mountains, found in the southwestern part of the US are called “mesas” (Spanish for tables).
I really like this guy's work. I love the Southwest themes/the desert. He really captures the brilliant sun and the open space, as well as the sharp shadows. The warm and cool contrasts have been so well executed. By the way, the triangular structure is called a tepee. Thanks for showing these paintings, Liron! :)

Watercolor Andy Evasen similar style. It always amazed me how simple and I find it difficult to take my eyes away from it
You might be interested in Logan Maxwell Hagege. He is influenced a lot by Maynard Dixon, but has a more realistic style.
I'm not a big fan of the scenes in the American west. However, that last painting was amazing. Thanks for sharing these.
