At 8:09 I think the word you were trying to pronounce is pasture(Pass chur-it sounds the pas sounds the same as the mas in the word master) Apologies if that wasn't what you were trying to say but I assumed so because the picture shows a pasture/meadow land. Great video btw!
The last painting is, The Bridle Path, White Mountains, 1868 which he painted in the White Mountains. I have been there many times. This is a stunning painting. His work is marvellous. I would never have thought he was largely self taught.
A stile is the old fashioned way for getting over a fence or wall by a series of steps that humans are capable of doing but cattle and sheep are not. You can still find them in Britain. Then in the 16th century the "kissing gate" was introduced. This is a gate within a sort of wooden box allowing one person through at a time. I had imagined lovers leaving with a kiss as each headed to their respective homes but it seems the kissing occurs when the gate contacts the post on each side. Oh, well. Older people found it difficult to get over the stile which is why I guess the gate was introduced.
I haven't used a tube green in a couple years. Quin gold and Paynes grey makes a lovely, warm green...I adore Homer and so glad you featured him. Cheers from Arizona.
That is beautiful stuff. The last painting, of the woman on horseback, is stunning. All of my own learning can be summed up as trying to get away from too much detail - it's been more difficult than giving up smoking. Lol. I've watched an hour long, or two hour long, video of Isaac Levitan's paintings - several times over. The suggestion of detail, and the subtlety of colour and tone, that this artist and Isaac Levitan demonstrate is awe inspiring.
good video. The group of palm trees are Cabbage Palms. Homer visited Homosassa, FL during winters to fish and paint. I imagine he traveled by boat and train to get there from Maine. The bird is an Osprey. He seems to have loved that bird and I just finished a copy of The Osprey Nest, a painting probably done in the Adirondacks. I've copied several Homer watercolors...for my own enjoyment with credit to him.
Nice! Homer is one of my favorite painters! I can’t explain it but I find his use of Prussian blue is very special. I just like that color and use it as my main blue
Enjoyed seeing these and hearing your comments on them. I like the time period,,, of course it’s easy to romanticize about the past especially when you see it captured in a great painting. Still, I’m drawn to a desire to reproduce the time period and style. Thanks for sharing with us.
That was neat. I like this series of artist. I love history so I guess I liked the old artist. Like you said no cameras back then. Thanks for the video.
Boys sailing. A replica was in my parent's family room. So it is etched into my brain. My father did sailing as a kid in the Choptank River, had his sailboat at the end of Oakley Street where Annie Oakley had a pier. He lived on Oakley Street.
It makes me wonder if Winslow had Monet's "Impressionist" painting as his guide that he used while he painted his "Eastern Point Light" painting. Notice the Red/Orange color of the light house light in the distant hill-line "vibrating" against the blue sky and hills? That just screams Monet! I will have to look at when both artists painted their paintings. Very Interesting... Who got what from whom... Edit/Update: Monet painted his Impressionist Sunrise in 1874, six years before (1880) Homer painted his Eastern Point Light painting. I wonder... :)
Tell Me about Crossing the Pasture. The stick to find water. "Water dowsing" refers in general to the practice of using a forked stick, rod, pendulum, or similar device to locate underground water, minerals, or other hidden or lost. Watt are they carrying. He is standing still she is walking????his hat is sidewards, Dumb. The Hill slopes intersect his head. Watt is in the bucket he has waders on so they were in the creek over the hill behind them. Why are two of them carrying the bucket???? It must be very heavy. He must have needed the dowsing stick to find the creek.
I believe there's a story here, as often the case with Homer. The boys have to cross the pasture with bucket, probably part of their family chores. The stick is held by the older brother is to protect themselves from the dangerous bull, who is looking at them. Not how tense and guardedly cautious they are.
One of my favorite artists! Thanks!

Thank you, Liron..for celebrating this great man and artist. One of the very best..one of my very Favs❣️
I’m a descendant of Winslow and I feel like I share so many qualities in my art. It blows my mind 🖤
Amazing! 😮
very nice video. the more i mature as an artist, the greater my appreciation for Homer.
He's indeed fantastic, I always notice new things about his work, thank you for watching 😊🙏🏼

Stile is a wooden fence crossing usually on a pathway.
Maybe the greatest painting ever - the Sail Boat.
Love Homer. Great analysis!

Enjoyed that. Helped me see what you see.
Very nice review, Liron. Thank you for pointing out the special features of the paintings. Always learn a lot from your videos. Thank you!

That is REALLY cool! Thank you for sharing all of these interesting experiences and observations 😊🙏🏼
Yes the old man is the center of the painting.
Homer’s watercolors of canoes are b great
Really known. I am not familiar with the classics. So I appreciate the recap.
Good review. I saw him in DC gallery.

Wonderful presentation. How about John Singer Sergeant?
Got one here! 😉

what about reviewing Norman Rockwell. Also Christine Lashley
That is indeed a stile, a step stile, once very common in Northeast USA and the Middle West.
You should do one on John Singer Sargent.
Thanks ! Who is the artist of that paintings that you are sharing with us
Pasture is at Amon Carter Museum
Another great video, I love these Master spotlights. I don’t think that you’ve done Arthur Melville, his Middle East studies were awesome.
How about some Renoir?
Who else is fan of Prussian blue? Let’s see guys
The cows are brown, not always the case. Spent many summers on a milking farm.
Why the waders??? He was in the Crik obviously.
Tell Me about Crossing the Pasture. The stick to find water. "Water dowsing" refers in general to the practice of using a forked stick, rod, pendulum, or similar device to locate underground water, minerals, or other hidden or lost.

What you think about James gurney....
🤣
The artist "sketching" is clearly Homer. You can see, "hom..." on the artists bag.
U have to look twice to see the old man steering.
Please do reaction on artist prafull Sawant
