I was listening to this video without watching it and waiting for him to start discussing his different setups and settings. I hadn’t even noticed he was switching guitars the whole time and thought he was playing the acoustic through all of it. Your eyes can play tricks on you. Trust your ears.
Thanks a lot for this nice profile. It's my number 1. I did only rise the preamp section a little an lower the sparkle, now it's perfect for me and my strat
You have to adjust the pickup section for single coils and Humbucker. All the way to the left is for single coils all the the way to right is for Humbucker
Difference is minimal. You can fix most of it with a graphical EQ behind the simulator. However you need to adust your playing alittle, you hit strings so hard its detuned allready, which didnt happen to you on the acoustiq due to higher string gauge. Little less power is needed for a good sound.
The Taylor pickup sounds like a magnetic pickup so it helps it compete. I’m not sure if I would say the same if you were comparing it to something like a Cole Clark but maybe that is not a fair comparison...
I agree with you. The vast majority of workhorse acoustic pickup systems probably aren't far off this ageing ES-1 though, so it's a relevant test. To my ears, the Taylor ES-3 system is also much more natural and would highlight the shortfall in the simulated sounds further. That said, this was attempt one, and currently some match EQ processing in Logic is working wonders for a new profile I'm fettling - I just need to figure out how to get the Kemper to do it too.
Cotswold Pro Audio I’m working on a comparison with a real mic’ed acoustic right now. Whether that’s fair or not I don’t know but it is the ultimate goal for many people.
@@aaronshortmusic I think plenty of people will be interested, myself included, if you can help move us towards the sound of a couple of condensers on there! Are you on the Kemper forums? You'll find me as EdwardArnold, and there's an 'epic thread' brewing regarding the AS that you should get stuck into. I went with the 'live gig' approach as it's the Kemper's primary stomping ground, which rules out using condenser mics on acoustics except in some very niche circumstances.
Cotswold Pro Audio I am not on the forum but I’ll take a look. I actually feel that the AS is closer to the mic than the pickup in a way (with some EQ). It’s very well done!
What I realized was how important the strings are. I think I could hear the thicker strings on the acoustic guitar adding more bass and “feel”. Would be interesting to hear what strings/different sets you used.
Interesting, thanks. I put the string gauges used for each guitar in the pop-out titles when they come on-screen, as I thought the question might come up. Taylor is 12-53, Eggle and Tele 10.5-48 and Strat 10-46. I *think* what happens is that a change in string gauge creates a change in feel that makes you play differently, which impacts the sound more so than just the string itself being different. Being a heavier gauge with more tension, and with a higher action, the Taylor lets me dig in more when picking. This could be why the bass frequencies are excited more. Conversely, picking hard on the Tele, which has a very low action, causes strings to slap against the fretboard, so I think I was more gentle. It's a giant melting pot of variables...!
alienlovesecrets The signal chain is kept simple - just the AcSim, then Pure Boost (only to bring the level up) into the Legacy Reverb and lastly some main output EQ. I found that filtering off the bottom end below 110 Hz permitted plenty of the Body control while taking the low end. No amp, no cab.
None sound as good as the actual acoustic unfortunately... Patrick was extremely dull sounding Tele sounded best IMO Acoustic was the best best. Had great chime/ring to it
Thanks very much. I'm about to post some complete rigs on Rig Exchange, and via the Kemper forums' Acoustic Simulator thread - might be easier if you head on over there - I can be found as 'EdwardArnold'.
A number us have been discussing the reported ‘hiss’ on the forums, but so far it seems limited to those trying to combine AS with a stack profile or using a piezo pickup system with it. It wasn’t designed for either of these things, and I’ve not had the issue, unless you can hear it in the audio and I’ve tuned it out?
Eddie Nomoney yes, search for ‘EA Single Coil Acoustic Sim’ on Rig Exchange, by Edward Arnold. Fine tune the rig volume and clean sense settings as required; Kemper have released another beta with some changes to the AcSim since posted that resolve the general low volume reports.
The high strings on the electric guitars through the Acoustic Simulator have a tinny, metallic sound to them. I don’t hear that at all with the real acoustic. I heard the same thing when first testing out the Acoustic Simulator with my own Kemper. I dislike it.
Cotswold Pro Audio I haven’t. I actually don’t tend to mess with those much. I did more with Helix, but I typically like what I’m hearing more with my Kemper and can simply EQ our anything I don’t like with the tone knobs. What would you set it at?
Dan Zdziarski I would start with a Low Pass filter in Studio EQ to work out where the problematic frequencies are. Bring the cut off frequency down slowly until the sound you dislike goes away. You’ll lose everything above the cut-off completely (e.g. 8kHz) so just make a note of the value then undo the low pass filter. Now you can target those specific frequencies with one of the mid EQ bands, and make a cut around e.g. 8kHz that sorts the problem without losing everything above. .

Great to hear. Thanks.
Thank you for producing this comparison!
Good job, the Tele sounded best to me

Excellent!
So, in the studio mic up that acoustic; onstage: what acoustic, I don't need no stinking acoustic

great job.....
Also use the delay widener
Still very nice imo. Is there a chain that is recommended (pre/post/accompanying fx etc)? Thanks.

What settings in the kemper acoustic simulator did you have them set to? Thanks great job on video.

‘EA Single Coil Acoustic Sim’ now on RE
Big hiss hours in the kemper apparently.

The Patrick was the closest!
Is the profile available?

Dan Zdziarski have you tried using a low pass filter or one of the parametric bands in Studio EQ to reduce it?

forget your Taylor sound, the Tele sounds very cool (-:
Kemp Man Thanks, I’ve gotten a fair bit further with the profile now and will share it on Rig Exchange soon.
Look for ‘EA Single Coil Acoustic Sim’ by Edward Arnold on Rig Exchange
Sounds better in the front of the house then a real acoustic
