I think what everyone forgets is that love is a choice you make- not a feeling. You choose to love someone every day. Choose to pursue them. Choose to pour into your relationship. I think people relying on feelings instead of love (choice) is why divorce rates are so high. (Also selfishness/ self centered ness) I do also think that shared values needs to be pursued higher than feelings/attraction. People often times have priorities mixed up in that way. Obviously feelings and attraction is important but without shared values the relationship is pretty close to doomed. Honestly in my marriage I feel like I’m more attracted to my husband every passing day based on the dedication we have to each other. Seeing a man choose me and our children every day is so incredible. Knowing we always have each others back no matter what and that through our shared faith we won’t break our vows has honestly made our feelings grow instead of having that typical “honeymoon phase/ relationship high.” It’s a stable pure kind of love. And the attraction keeps getting better and better as we know and trust eachother deeper.
Straight facts, friend. There’s also the reality that the best relationships are not devoid of struggle, hard times, and conflict. Learning with my husband how to have constructive and growth-centric conflict is my favorite part of our relationship, and learning how to take ownership of my own flaws and my husband doing the same was such a beautiful experience. There were moments that were hard, but when we really leaned in the expressing ourselves and really trying to understand each other it transformed into healing parts of myself that I didn’t even know needed healing.

True love is choosing each other even during the mundane times and the tough times. I mean yes you can feel love as well, but we should base our relationship of choosing each other first and let the feelings be an extra benefit. My husband and I choose each other every day and it’s through choosing to love that we feel so passionately for one another. Married for years and I still get excited to see him every day after work.

Similar to your discussion I’ve lived with a 3 rule philosophy for most of my life to what I believe is to live a life content and tackling new social quandaries. 1) make yourself happy/ follow your passions 2) make others happy you care about 3) don’t hurt or interrupt anybody doing step 1 or 2. Then repeat and they are numbered sequentially purposefully. It’s simple but applies to just about all actions I consider

I think there is a huge difference between infatuation and chemistry and love. Like love implies a deeper connection, being vulnerable, open, working through your own challenges and the ones life and the relationship brings and at the end of the day...chosing that other person and sharing projects and goals, but algo having a partner that supports your and encourages to work and achieve your own individual goals.

We were able to really get to know each other first. I guess the problem with that tho is usually one person has feelings for the other person and they have to decide to go for it and try or don't. Either way the friendship is ultimately ruined because the one who has feelings doesn't want to be just friends and has to remove themselves or you try and it doesn't work out and your friendship isn't the same after. But when it does work out I would say it's one of the healthiest relationships because you have such a solid foundation from the friendship. That's just my opinion 🤗
