I love pennies. The 1945 union penny features King George VI on the obverse and the Dromedaris ship on the reverse. A total of 4,809,723 were minted of which 150 were proof. 95% copper. It's fairly common. An uncirculated specimen could reach about R500, but if their value drops quickly in poorer condition (well worn specimens would go for about R20). I own a graded MS63 and in that condition it's worth around R1000. So the condition of the coin is critical.

Very nice! There were 290,593 minted (so not very much) and in uncirculated worth around R500-R1000. If it's well worn around R100 at least.
