I grew up in LA for 25 years and I totally agree with you so much. I recently moved to Washington in a medium/small town but about 20 mins from a big city. Would highly recommend getting out of LA it did wonders for my mental health

I think we can experience little bouts of happiness throughout the day: feeling we are at the good place, being thankful, helping patients and their appreciation. And on the long term, as you say, we are all going ultimately at the same place. But if our hope is only in this world, we are miserable. Only God the creator can make our life meaningful both here and after.

Life isn’t about searching for happiness. In fact that is a counterintuitive way to live, if you are seeking happiness, you won’t be happy. The way to live your life is to seek meaning and strive for strength and resilience. Basically you are trying to self inflict struggle so that you can appreciate the small things in life by contrast. Laying in bed is boring to most but if you’re laying in bed after a long day of purposeful hardship then laying in bed is a treat. Your life is determined through contrast. If you seek happiness you are going to find it and when you over indulge in that happiness, you lose contrast and that happiness loses all meaning. Without pain there is no pleasure. My personal mantra in life is “happiness can ONLY be maintained through disciplined acts of selflessness.” It’s simple but if everyone understood that sentence the world would be full of people with meaningful lives.
I’ve lived a thousand lifetimes of pain that I inflicted on myself by not understanding what I laid out in this comment. If you aren’t happy with your life, understand that if you follow what I’ve told you here, you will overcome that. If you feel your life sucks, realize that you aren’t getting what life is about, all you need to do is listen to what I’ve said and only then will you get what you want out of life.
