@@meganvbriggs Raw is not a love story like haunting adeline if that is why you’re recommending it! You won’t like the main guy the way you like Zade he is genuinely an awful individual yes that’s my personal opinion but he is portrayed to be that way he doesn’t get redemption like Zade does, just a warning for if you though Raw was a romance it’s definitely not
I did not know these kinds of books existed for a long time. I thought I was a total weirdo when I would stumble across effed up themes and just want them to be darker, worse, violent....it feels so much more real to me than tepid romance with swooning maidens. I love these suggestions and will check them out!
Why can't more reviewers be like this one? She's very well prepared. She gets straight to the point and breezes through the reviews without pausing. Giving us succinct reasons why we would or wouldn't enjoy the book. She doesn't let her dress strap or necklaces distract from her presentation either. So it doesn't distract us either. This is SO refreshing! There are literally dozens of other reviewers who would have stopped in the middle of their presentation to give us a 10 minute rant on how they wished they'd worn a different outfit or suddenly feel the need to tell us about their favorite jewelry. Instead, this young lady comes off as truly enthusiastic about her book recommendations. And it's contagious. She comes off as genuine and authentic. Well done, keep up the good work. Insta sub!
Interesting ranking! I would have put Adeline higher due to lack of consent. I’m still learning what my tastes are for dark romance, it’s such an interesting sub genre
I’m so glad you made this! I like dark romance novels but I like consent and things still so this is a really good resource. It makes me happy to see others that read these things and aren’t shaming! I hate being accused of being a bad feminist for liking problematic love interests. Tom Riddle started it for me lol.
Hunting Adeline was the first dark romance I’ve head, still beating the second and men, was that fun, is just dark for dark sake and so much chock value but that kept me reading and that good cause I need to keep reading and escape so is great
I'm so glad you made this video! This year I read Still Beating and it's one of the best romance books I've read in such a long time. I've always read the usual cute contemporary romances and now I'm looking for something different, like dark or slow burn where the characters go through a lot of stuff before getting together and I enjoy this so much. Also, I started reading Dark Notes because of you, love your recommendations!! Hugs from Spain 🤗💖
Absolutely love Dark Notes!!! One of my favs! Just wanna let you know in case you didn’t know there is a scene involving animal violence towards the end of the book during a big confrontation…just wanted to let you know in case you didn’t!
I love that you actually go there! I love dark romances, but I usually lean toward a 3 or 4. I usually say that the darker the book is, the more "innocent" the hero has to be - in the sense of, if the book is very very dark, to me it's not ok that the hero is actually doing the dark stuff. Whereas if it's a lighter dark book, I'm ok with a moraly skewed hero.
loved still beating and the cat & mouse duet! agree that hunting adeline got pretty dark. one of the darker ones i've read was the swan & the jackal, but hunting adeline felt darker in some parts
Great list! Another dark romance that I love is the Dirty Broken Savages series! It's a really great reverse harem, mafia-ish romance that's pretty dark (murder, torture etc), but the connection and the character development all the main characters have is really great.
Tillie Cole’s books are very dark! I recently read the Lord of London Town and the Deadly Virtues series (3 books so far) and all of them are 5/5!!!!! I adore TC writing style!!! Kisses from Europe 💐🦋
So I want to start by telling you that you make my day better every time you post. Almost all the books you recommended were 5 stars for me, and for that I want to thank you. By the way, you're super pretty. Greetings from Romania.💜
Such a great list. I have been reading a lot of dark romances lately. I would add 2 of my personal favorites if you haven’t read them yet. Mercy by Debra Anastasia and Monster in His Eyes by JM Darhower.
I loved Hooked. I have no idea what it is about a handsome villain with no guilty conscience; a psychopath/killer that gets graphic and then his plan being derailed by his attraction to Wendy made me appreciate him so much. It’s like he was almost confused when he started caring about her. The mix of content was PERFECTION to me. A lot of references to Peter Pan had me in shock because someone gave me this book and I had no idea it was dark, romance, graphic, rated R, or even mentioning my CHILDHOOD fairytales in so many references ?? . Absolutely loved the amount of crazy in this piece . !
Sylvia Day’s Crossfire series is great dark romance with the emphasis on ROMANCE and not just the heroine getting traumatized all the time. I would give it a level 3 for intensity and the traumas both main characters have to deal with. 👍
The thing with Pepper Winters is I would recommend her more grey books like The Ribbon Duet and The Luna Duet because while both of those have dark themes it's not the whole book and the couples in both are them (Ren and Della and Nerida and Aslan) are true soulmates.
It's interesting, I've read "Still Beating" and "Haunting Adeline", and even though those are dark romances, neither of those made me feel as uncomfortable as I did when I read "My Dark Vanessa". And I don't even think that was meant to be a dark book, but that's the darkest book I've ever read....maybe because it felt a little TOO close to reality 🤔 I'm excited to read the other ones you recommended. I genuinely WANT a book to make me feel uncomfortable, because that's what I'm looking for out of a dark romance.
Stupid question but wherecan i find the risk and other from the mindfuck series in physical form? Can't find it anywhere and i really love the serialkiller aspect from it.
Ok, yes please! My first ""dark"" romance was Brutal Prince, and even within the Sophie Lark I think that was the most tame, and then went to Pam Godwin and it was too much for me heheh
Im finishing up Hunting Adeline and I will start Does it hurt by HD Carlton. I love reading the works of same author on a loop and I dont like interruptions. So I will read all books by a particular author and finish it and then start another author, rather than, just starting a random book.
I like dark but only if the darkness isn’t between the MCs. Does that make sense? Like nothing that the MMC is doing to the FMC or vice versa. Then it’s hard for me to buy in to the romance after that. Still Beating is one of my all time faves.

I just started The Life of Anna and I'm...intrigued? One thing you didn't mention is that there is a supernatural/paranormal element to it. Anna seems to have psychic abilities and sees visions (not a spoiler, this is revealed literally in the first page), however she doesn't know she's psychic and thinks her visions are just recurring dreams.
Loved this video. I’m laughing cause when I started Dark Romance I went full head to level 4-5 🤣 but loved it SO much I think I have issues lol I also think that Hunting Adeline (book 2) its level 5 that was very dark, and Hooked I felt like it was a 3 BUT maybe it’s cause I read it after Hunting Adeline so maybe that’s why I felt it was a lot less darker. I haven’t read Deliver yet but I do have the first book I’ll read it eventually! And I would probably put Sicko at a 4 or 5 I feel like it kinda falls between those two for me😅
Hopefully in the future we will have more clearly defended sub-genres or tags in dark romance listings, as I am sick of reading an interesting story, only for the every sex scene to turn into BDSM. BADSM, Kidnapped, Mafia, slavery etc, could have a tag or listing somewhere much like we see with reverse harem, LGBTQ, books.
I mostly agree with your list but I found Still Beating not that dark. And Hooked was kinda boring tbh... But the other ones were perfect choices for the different dark levels of romance.
Lmao, your poor friend! I remember someone started me off with a Kitty Thomas book and 🥲🙃 that... traumatized me for a long while. But then I eased back into dark romance & now I can't go back 💖 this is why I just send people rec videos instead because my tolerance for the genre is skewed; I have few triggers & can handle reading about some pretty messed up stuff, so I'm afraid to scare someone off from this genre by giving them something i think isnt that dark but might be for a newbie to Dark Romance 😅 but this video was great & your rankings were accurate (and I love the system you had for why you ranked them the way you did) 👌
"Dub con" is dubious consent, as in it's questionable. Not exactly non consent, because in some ways it's there, or the MC desires it or there is, at least, a doubt. In "non con" there's no consent, at all, so basically rape, although it's usually worked troughout the book
Found this video interesting but I am the opposite: I've been reading dark romances but am now choosing to go to the lighter side. I really, REALLY prefer substance over smut and I'm struggling to find books like that.
