GJ, this was my build in the Beta, makes fun. But: i Play with reaper with cd reduce, i sacrify golem for life and put decrepify with cd reduction in. With all passive effects you can reduce the CD from Army of the death enormous, and in boss fights you will need this
Thank you very much. As a necro main since D2 I was about to change my character because I got tired of "Not enough essence", beeing stunlocked and twoshot and overall feeling underwhelmingly weak. This build gave me the fun in playing necro back.
Just wanted to put some things in here with the recent changes. With the reduced cooldown on Army of the Dead, it is now more viable to use Decrepify with the cooldown reduction node to be able to reset Army cd fully. All you need for this is to get a single legendary affix, the army of the dead affix that grants massive attack speed to your minions during army. This is a very solid method of dealing with troublesome boss fights since Army can resummon your minions and the affix also reduces the damage they would take, making them immune when it's slotted onto a necklace or virtually immune elsewhere. All you need is a single skill slot, and how I manage this is by forgoing decompose and using reaper skeletons for corpse generation. A very nice way to augment this particular build too, letting you essentially have near constant uses of army on boss fights.
Hey, thanks for the in depth comment. I am currently struggling with this build since i don't know wich skills i should invest in anymore. I have all the skills listed in the top section of the build but i am lvl 34 and have plenty of points to spend.
@@yorshka6955 It's awkward at lower levels and the grind a bit because what you can get the best mileage out of might not line up with what a guide can offer. Sometimes what your gear supports is generally better than what guides are suggesting. With that said, summon builds can be pretty gear agnostic and work in most situations from general gear points and you just rotate your spenders based on your gear bonuses. I'd do an inventory of what you have access to, and focus on that instead of using blight/corpse explosion. I had a lot of success early using corpse tendrils + vulnerability skill into Sever spam getting +2% per minion when I had 13 minions. That did a lot of burst damage and worked wonders early on. Now that I am level 60, and have a lot more minion damage gear, I have moved to blight instead since I got the pull affix for it. When in doubt, go for passives. They can offer a good boost to just about anything you are doing and there's tons of them to dump points into. It's very cheap to respec early on and even later on it's not bad either compared to the gold I generate.
I went quite a ways with the blight build also and liked it at very early levels. However, I discovered that you don't need blight because your minions can pretty much handle trash mobs already, and elites as well as bosses don't hold still obediently on the blight. Your core damage skill can't even be applied much of the time, making it useless. Now my necro is like 43 right now. The legendaries I've gotten are quickly replaced by higher armor gear I don't bother to transfer the aspect over - since I am continuously leveling and finding better stuff every dungeon. So, basically, no legendary gear to speak of. I like a lazy build, with minions and golem taking care of the trash while I help out from the back with spells. Thus, to me, decompose and sever work well. Those 2 slots, plus raise skeletons and golem for 4 slots taken. The last 2 I like corpse explosion and blood mist. Blood mist is only used to either generate corpses on the boss fight or to reposition myself. Now sever is pretty good on just about anything, and I'll essence dump the boss with it. But decompose is what gives me corpses on the boss or tougher elites for my main skill, which is corpse explosion - 2 or 3 of them - at the bosses feet, This basic skill isn't bad at all, and it even buffs the damage he takes from shadow damage and your minions. Or you can slow him with it instead. I have 5 points in sever and corpse explosion (with the trait that creates the shadow damage pool - it is very big and usually the mobs are in it. Blight pools are too small) I have all three of the minion health/damage passives, and the rest of the passives like gloom, ect. just a point or so and I spread those points to take all the useful ones. I use just one point in the passive that gets me essence for consuming corpses, and frost mages generate some essence too. Decompose fills my essence after I dump it all on severing the boss or elites. No mana starvation at all, really. As I level, I went down the tree getting the skills I wanted with just a point, including the upgrades to them, then started to fill in the damage skills and passives a point at a time. Priority to sever/corpse explosion of course. Try to get them at 5 by 40. Playstyle can't be simpler - my minions charge on sight, but i sever a couple times to the back rank - hitting a bunch of them, then trigger some corpse explosions. I'll look for the leader and sever dump my essence - you can hold the button down and take the boss to half or quarter of his life - then decompose him (hmm?), triggering a few corpse explosions all over the place. Good for open world, good for any dungeon. I tried bone, without legendaries and paragons it feels useless to me. Blood is unkillable, true, but I don't like the playstyle of being in the middle of a pack. Both take huge essence dumps just to kill stray trash mobs in the open world too, they are way too inefficient and I was always essence starved. I've been fooling around just doing dungeons and open world and trying out a build a day or so for the last couple weeks. This build of mine, naked character (no legend/paragon needed) is what works for me. All those videos I watched, with trying them out, and I finally found the build for me. Yes I know, it will last at least until the later levels with good legendary aspects and some paragon nodes to change it up. You can replace blood mist with decripify, that would also work if you think you won't need the unstoppable escape at need.
I'm doing the same build but with Decrepify instead of corpse explosion, reapers in place of warriors, shadow mages in place of ice mages, and maxed out points in the shadow damage tree.
This build is so much better then the outdated (or at least it feels like that) Summoner build (same principles different approach) on Maxroll. Which runs Sever and Reap, which has me be closer then I would prefer and the overall build is way more reliant on corpses to spawn any ground aoes, which are hard to get on boss fights, this build is also less boring and slower.

I have been hearing a lot of talk about minions not being viable at higher levels, and dying very easily. Can you clarify your experience with this? I was really excited to command an army of undead but if its not viable end game I am hesitant.
Nobody seems to know some say they are fine at end game if correct talents are picked others say the opposite. Seems nobody actually knows or can prove it with any evidence anyway.
most people talk a lot of bullshit based on almost no experience. generally any build that has synergy is viable. almost nothing is actually not end game viable in an ARPG. on the rare chance something like that happens, they hotfix it. Play what you want to.
@@lekkai7473 some of us aren't smart enough to put something decent together. I, for one, am terrible coming up with something that works well. So my end game build would be pretty shit.

I've only at 30 and I can already tell that it's going to be fine. Even if minions died quickly, which they won't you have a full Rez on ult and the amount of corpse generation is crazy, you can't run out.

Just finished quest to unlock world tier 3 at level 44 solo... not sure if its big deal but few hours before we couldn do it in party with 4 players and i had different build... even though my build is different from yours, but main weapon is also blight corpse explosion and looks like its best for necro )
Decompose is only used to fill some essence, giving you a couple corpses too. Try some burst damage. The build presented here is really good, I really only change up blight for sever. Maybe a point different here and there. Sever is amazing burst damage, and very cheap essence cost. And it is still shadow damage, taking advantage of the passives the video presented. Sever is also very fast. You can hold the button down, and it will dump all your essence into several severs. Then corpse explosion on the boss's feet, then decompose him while your minions are whaling on him. If he charges you, then kite him across the tainted pools for a few seconds and give him another few severs. Blow up some more corpses. The butcher was like that for me - he totally ignored my minions.
I'm enjoying necro, but its frustrating playing with my friends on sorc and rogue. They tend to get so far ahead of me I'm just running behind looting lol. I'm more or less running this build but with reap/sever. Would really like to see decompose reworked to cause minions to prioritize that target. I would take that over the 10% damage personally.
I just hit lvl 30. Act 2. I’m having a rough time keeping my minions alive. They are getting wrecked. I have 3 Skeletal Warrior mastery. Not sure what I’m doing wrong but it’s tough sledding
Yeah, while you're in a fight, you can use raise skelly you know. there is no "cooldown" for that spell, but on the button you see a little bar on it which takes 5 seconds or so to clear. You can "summon a cleric" every 5 seconds or so that heals your skellies. Doing it more often than that will have no effect.
Why use skeletal warriors and not skeletal reapers tho? Cus couldn’t the reapers cleave and create more corpses that you can then convert into blight puddles? Or did I miss something
Don't you pick a Key Passive? Can't find anything about it in the written Guide. Shadowblight sounds pretty powerful, or do i miss something important here?
Is there any thing we should change since todays patch? a lot of things were nerfed and very few things were buffed. Ive been using your build and i love it but after the patch i notice im using more health pots than normal.
I been using this build myself and I don't think it got nerfed other than corpse explosion which got a slight nerf damage wise other than that maybe mess around with different passives for skills
That's why I wouldn't use corpse explosion, and the summons should be tankier with that talent or w/e that makes it so they take significantly less AOE damage.
I think thematically it's an aoe dot build with minions, which is why he went for blight. Honestly, you can use whatever you like as long as you're clearing content and having fun.
then bone spear becomes your core skill, which has to be supported by the appropriate passives further down the tree. If you're taking gloom, and the other 3 passives, you don't have enough points for the 4 bone passives too.
my man i saw the video but i havent seen what dungeon passive to use. U know those dungeon abbilities u bound on weapons where u have to clear those dungeons to get. pretty big dungeons. anyway please tell me witch on of necromancer class we should pick with this build. thanks.
So this is like, identical to the build I ran in Beta #2 and Slam with only a single difference, why go with an extra Skeleton Warrior over the corps generating Reapers?
I have everything but 1 and it is the golem skill that you mentioned earlier. I look through all my skill sets and I do not see it, But I do see golem mastery, There must be an update after you post this video Assuming.

Do you ever go back and max decompose? In my 50s and havent respecced yet, hah. Its a pretty active build. I got all of the energy and minion buffing perks. With gear that increases mages and skeletal warriors and minion life/attack speed I just sit back generating tons of corpses and blowing them up and throwing blight. Also have an item that boosts minion atk speed while army of dead is active.
I was originally going for a similar build to this but I have issues with blight on elite/boss fights. They’re always jumping all over the place and I’m wasting essence making puddles on the floor that they don’t touch. Also is corpse explosion still viable after the nerf? It was great in beta but I thought it was greatly reduced damage now?
Dude there is always so many corpses on the ground that just spamming corpse explode is pretty damn awesome. You can just mash your button over the corpses and it’s just aoe damage everywhere. Absolutely melts at least during the leveling process.
@@Matt-ft7zr yeah I get that for the majority of the game. The bigger fights are where I have trouble. Not many corpses to turn into warriors or explode and I’m constantly missing with my blight puddles. Or at least I was in Beta. Most of yesterday I was staring at a “not valid license” thing when I was trying to play and then had to work today. It’s possible I’m just playing wrong, this is my first Necro 😂
I am in the same boat. I am running a rogue with another player (druid) and everything melts away. For solo I was thinking a necro is more relaxed, letting my minions run to the front and me being in the background... nope. Boss fights are super hard. My Minions melt and the boss jumps out of the puddles. Exactly as you said (added to that i am not very practiced yet and blight doesn't always land where I want it to... ; ) ) I feel that at least in the beginning this build is pretty harsh in boss fights. Maybe that changes with time and practice : /
@@GabdeVue well I am playing right now and my dumb ass was using decompose all wrong. I usually play physical damage and didn’t know wtf “channeling” was. If I can generate essence at 8 per sec and get a few corpses in a boss fight, this should go a lot smoother. Corpse every 2,5 seconds would be helpful. I just thought it was something you shot like blight, never occurred me to hold the button down 😜 Update: so I just ran the first Druid aspect dungeon with a friend. Blight/ decompose does make the big guy drop corpses and fills essence pretty quick. Plus I took vulnerable options in both bone spear and splinters cuz I need that extra 20% as a squishy. Then again this fight was not so jumpy ;)
I have less reliance on corpse explosions in boss battles, I just focus on keeping my minions buffed with the skeletal priest, have at least one blight under the boss and channel decompose. Sometimes I get a huge amount of corpses from my traits or reaper skeletons, and if the boss is standing still I just unload all the corpses. I also include tendrils to snap mobs closer together, which you don't see in this video. I prefer it over the ultimate because I get more value out of it.
Decompose doesn't form corpses from Bosses? I tried fighting a single story Boss mob and I can't get past it with this build. Without corpses, you can't win. Your skeletons die and cannot be recreated and you can't use Corpse Explosion. My Decompose never generates a corpse while the mob I'm fighting is still living. While fighting large groups of mobs it's great -- not so much against single, powerful enemies.
He did cover it. Bone golem with first specialization, frost mages with first for the essence generation. I prefer skelly defenders myself, with the first option for more survivability.

This is one of the most awesome and fun to play builds with Necro. So much sinergy and variety. Blightmaster became even good after the buffs.

I’m on WT4 lvl72 with this build. I threw in a some of my own touches with aspects but this build is super solid!

Nice build!!!! Since you can only have 1 aspect per piece of gear what is all on the armor? You don't explain that in the blightlord build.

Is there any thing we should change since todays patch? a lot of things were nerfed and very few things were buffed. Ive been using your build and i love it but after the patch i notice im using more health pots than normal.
I been using this build myself and I don't think it got nerfed other than corpse explosion which got a slight nerf damage wise other than that maybe mess around with different passives for skills

Why not use reapers to increase the number of corpses generated more?
Having your summons die during boss fights and not being able to create new summons because there are no corpses SUCKS!!!!
That's why I wouldn't use corpse explosion, and the summons should be tankier with that talent or w/e that makes it so they take significantly less AOE damage.
It does, but it brings some balancing and a counter for the Necro

I save my army, because if you get all the nodes it will resummon your skeletons. So good way to quickly restock mid fight.

Can you use bone spear instead of blight for this to work. Think making enemies vulnerable is better then just 15% in blight puddles.
I think thematically it's an aoe dot build with minions, which is why he went for blight. Honestly, you can use whatever you like as long as you're clearing content and having fun.
then bone spear becomes your core skill, which has to be supported by the appropriate passives further down the tree. If you're taking gloom, and the other 3 passives, you don't have enough points for the 4 bone passives too.

my man i saw the video but i havent seen what dungeon passive to use. U know those dungeon abbilities u bound on weapons where u have to clear those dungeons to get. pretty big dungeons. anyway please tell me witch on of necromancer class we should pick with this build. thanks.
This build has gotten more effective with the buffs to minion by the way.

So this is like, identical to the build I ran in Beta #2 and Slam with only a single difference, why go with an extra Skeleton Warrior over the corps generating Reapers?
Probably for early game before you get aspects to increase the amount of them. i'm guessing you'd swap it out later, same with the golem.

I have everything but 1 and it is the golem skill that you mentioned earlier. I look through all my skill sets and I do not see it, But I do see golem mastery, There must be an update after you post this video Assuming.

In my 50s and havent respecced yet, hah.
Its a pretty active build. I got all of the energy and minion buffing perks.
With gear that increases mages and skeletal warriors and minion life/attack speed I just sit back generating tons of corpses and blowing them up and throwing blight.
Also have an item that boosts minion atk speed while army of dead is active.
What skill is that rnext to corpse explosion on the right side

I was originally going for a similar build to this but I have issues with blight on elite/boss fights. They’re always jumping all over the place and I’m wasting essence making puddles on the floor that they don’t touch. Also is corpse explosion still viable after the nerf? It was great in beta but I thought it was greatly reduced damage now?
Dude there is always so many corpses on the ground that just spamming corpse explode is pretty damn awesome. You can just mash your button over the corpses and it’s just aoe damage everywhere. Absolutely melts at least during the leveling process.
@@Matt-ft7zr yeah I get that for the majority of the game. The bigger fights are where I have trouble. Not many corpses to turn into warriors or explode and I’m constantly missing with my blight puddles. Or at least I was in Beta. Most of yesterday I was staring at a “not valid license” thing when I was trying to play and then had to work today. It’s possible I’m just playing wrong, this is my first Necro 😂
I am in the same boat. I am running a rogue with another player (druid) and everything melts away. For solo I was thinking a necro is more relaxed, letting my minions run to the front and me being in the background... nope. Boss fights are super hard. My Minions melt and the boss jumps out of the puddles. Exactly as you said (added to that i am not very practiced yet and blight doesn't always land where I want it to... ; ) ) I feel that at least in the beginning this build is pretty harsh in boss fights. Maybe that changes with time and practice : /
@@GabdeVue well I am playing right now and my dumb ass was using decompose all wrong. I usually play physical damage and didn’t know wtf “channeling” was. If I can generate essence at 8 per sec and get a few corpses in a boss fight, this should go a lot smoother. Corpse every 2,5 seconds would be helpful. I just thought it was something you shot like blight, never occurred me to hold the button down 😜
Update: so I just ran the first Druid aspect dungeon with a friend. Blight/ decompose does make the big guy drop corpses and fills essence pretty quick. Plus I took vulnerable options in both bone spear and splinters cuz I need that extra 20% as a squishy. Then again this fight was not so jumpy ;)
I have less reliance on corpse explosions in boss battles, I just focus on keeping my minions buffed with the skeletal priest, have at least one blight under the boss and channel decompose.
Sometimes I get a huge amount of corpses from my traits or reaper skeletons, and if the boss is standing still I just unload all the corpses.
I also include tendrils to snap mobs closer together, which you don't see in this video. I prefer it over the ultimate because I get more value out of it.
This is a TOUGH ASS BUILD! would you suggest a replacement for the skirmishers to the reapers to have more corpses over damage from minons?

Decompose doesn't form corpses from Bosses? I tried fighting a single story Boss mob and I can't get past it with this build. Without corpses, you can't win. Your skeletons die and cannot be recreated and you can't use Corpse Explosion. My Decompose never generates a corpse while the mob I'm fighting is still living. While fighting large groups of mobs it's great -- not so much against single, powerful enemies.

He did cover it. Bone golem with first specialization, frost mages with first for the essence generation. I prefer skelly defenders myself, with the first option for more survivability.
