@@tofu_golemyeah I like to have some bezelage. But even still was a little surprised at big those side bezels are. Not a deal breaker for me or anything but a bit jarring.
Good to see another detachable. Havent seen anything new since duet 5. And with snapdragon partnership over and Chromebook plus not including ARM I was starting to worry
Loving the 2-in-1 life! The CM30 transforms from laptop to tablet so easily, perfect for studying or lounging. And I'm surprised by the performance of the Mediatek processor.
Why isn't there a sub 11" Chromebook with a laptop form-factor? I really don't like the type cover approach with kickstand. Basically unusable as a laptop when away from a flat surface and you end up with all these extra pieces (type cover & back) if you use it as a tablet. What I really would love to see is a small light Chromebook but if you get below 11.6", all you can find is tablets with removable covers.
Hear me out, oled (or display tech with near true blacks) that adjusts when undocked to create 'bezels' for which the darkened area is then touch disabled
Ah man, you guys aren't at CES that's too bad. I hope it is not for a lack of Chromebooks coming this year. This Asus on the other hand looks like a big winner. That 8gb of RAM is a big win in my book. That's a deal breaker for me and a loss for the Duet 3 at Best Buy. Can't wait to see what else you got to show us!
This Chromebook looks amazing! The detachable keyboard is exactly what I've been looking for. Along with the Kompanio chipset I think this one is a right one for the performance!!
I was super excited to get to see this, I'd already thought this would likely be my next Chrome convertible. But... nooooo.. those bezels. It's giving iPad Air gen 1 vibes. The screen size is just too small for a desktop workflow. Thanks for the video!
I still don't understand how tablet and phone makers are routinely putting better speakers in smaller devices. I remember the CM3, almost kept it but it was super underwhelming. We either need full desktop browsers in premium Android tablets or full app support and equal speakers/battery life in chrome tablets.
If there'll be a new Chrome OS tablet with detachable keyboard, performance at least of the Duet 3 and an integrated pen for occasional hand written notes, I'd jump right after it upgrading from my original Lenovo Chromebook Duet.
Yeah i tested the lg IdeaPad 3 with the kompannio 520 the performance was very mid but that was on a device you can get for 120€ and below. Shouldn't the kompannio 528 be more common by now?
I thought this would be a good replacement for my 1st gen Duet (especially when hearing it has 8GB ram) but then I see the bezel... I would wait and see what Lenovo has to offer simply because of that
I really wish chromebook could be more focused in Indonesia. I want to try chromebook but the only chromebook available in here is the cheapest one that came with 64gb internal memory. Like how am I going to use 64 gb internal memory
I'm considering a purchase. Unfortunately, all videos show the version with a stand. Then there is a variant with a protective cover and no one (including ASUS service) can tell me whether the cover is removable and whether it comes with the same stand as in the first case. In my country (Czechia) both versions have the same price and they tell me that the content is either a stand or only the cover. Do you know anything more about it? Thank you.
Tbh, I hateeee tablets with small bezels, extremely uncomfortable during extended usage, speaking from experience of course. If the price is reasonable, I'll definitely go down on this bad boy 💦
I have been reading all the comments complaining about the bezel size thinking "These people have no idea how difficult it is to work with tiny bezels. For me, it's function over beauty. I don't care how pretty the thing is if I won't use it because it's uncomfortable.
After using the Duet 5 and trying out the Duet 3 I'd like to see someone come out with a 12 inch Chrome tablet with Microsoft Surface kickstand and thick bumpers at the corners. I was using my Duet 5 on my lap on a bus when the driver accelerated. The tablet portion flew to the ground and two corners got cracked. That kickstand added weight but no protection.
how is the minimum brightness ? one thing (the only thing actually) I hate from my Duet 3 is that the minimum brightness is still way to bright at night. My ChromeTab 10 can go so low on brightness compared to the Duet 3
Owned a duet 5, great screen, but that was about it. The detachable keyboard tablet is not terribly practical to use unless you have it on a nice, flat and sturdy surface, and is a giant pain to use on your lap. I’d much rather use a tablet for tablet stuff and an actual laptop for laptop stuff!
You really ought to learn to focus your thoughts on the product and reviewing the same with less mindless babble. I think you must like the sound of your own voice and have an inability to prepare what you're going to say beforehand. KNOW your product before you film.
Yeah never again, I have an Asus 2-1 Chromebook that's so slow, laggy and has issues running apps that it's collecting dust. These devices are a waste of money and precious natural resources. To think that small children in the Congo are dying while digging minerals for Asus to come up with this?
It's nice seeing new detachable Chromebooks and depending on the price this could be worth it, but I wish we would get something a little better than this one. It kind of sounds like the Lenovo Duet 3 or 5 would still be the way to go to however since they go on sale pretty often.
Except that they make detachables that suddenly stop charging and get bricked, and at the certain point it became such a huge issue that they had to stop issuing updates for this Chromebooks to figure out what's going on. My original duet died 1.5 year after I purchased it. I'm not buying Lenovo again. Lenovo laptops at my previous job all came with random keys getting stuck and typing the same letter until you reboot them. They also were randomly freezing. For the whole team of 100+ employees. Lenovo has very low standards for quality control.
Thanks for this video. Now I know I won't bother with this iteration of the Chrome OS tablet. It's obvious that like the Windows ecosystem, the Chrome OS ecosystem's demands on hardware are just too great for good, high-performance Chrome OS tablets that come anywhere close to the iPad to be showing up any time soon. Sad - I much prefer the Chrome user interface - but it looks like we're going to have to wait at least another 5 years before the required CPU's appear on the scene... if they ever do.
I have an expensive i7 Pixelbook Go, which has yet to age well. It is slow and poorly optimised compared to my M1 MB Pro from the same time with the same RAM. It sits around, barely used, as I can easily use the Mac for my browser and office work. I am not sure the steep decline in Chromebook sales is just the market saturation; it may have more to do with people like me, just not having an excellent long-term experience and now realising that a reasonable premium Mac or Windows device is a much better choice. This product is cheaper, and I cannot be too critical. But it doesn't look very good, and an Android or iPadOS tablet is a better investment, even if you need to pay more.
This shit gives me 2016 vibes 😅 why's so outdated? Bezel the size of 50 years old lad with the thickness of a double cheeseburger 🍔 I think Asus should just give on these right away 😂
Those are big bezels. I don't hate bezels but those are way bigger than other detachable Chromebooks
Very reminiscent of the first Pixelbook's bezels. I agree it's not a huge deal but an odd choice by Asus.
Yeah they are freaking huge
Big bezels are good when you use a tablet.
I Love Bezels!!! 😃👍🏻

Bobby being nice when he clearly wants to throw it against a wall. If this comes in at even 350 it's going to die on a shelf.
Seems like a nice device, my Duet 5 has been really good. Looking to see what future ChromeOS tablets will realease
I have the Duet 3 and so far I love it!
I wouldn't pay more than 300 for this and thats with all included. I would recommend the duet 3 instead or a ipad 9

I think the large bezels is a great idea
That is such a nice design! I love the magnetic back cover/stand & that it has a slot for the stylus
I just got one of these and its perfect for uploading and managing my TH-cam channels 😊
How's it still working for you? Had a Duet 3 and loved it, but gave it to my niece for school. Thinking of getting another 2 in 1. 6:02

I'm not very up on the Chromebook scene at the moment, are you saying Android app support is still bad?
@@nonesuch27 it’s not as good as Android tablets.
My goal is to use my duet 5 for all of my masters program. This is tempting though.
Very nice device. The look is very much like the surfaces as you said.
Yup! those Bezels kinda did me in. deal breaker.

I just want a chromebook with 16-32 gb of ram and a ryzen 7 processor.....that i can actually get in australia
I'm using a Duet right now, and I'm not seeing a big difference.

Amazing bezels!!!
2010 ipad called, wants its bezels back 🤣
Oh my God the bezels are huge.
Intrigued by the Mediatek processor. Anyone have experience with it? Does it handle multitasking well on the CM30?

@@gregoryscott5780 the best solution would be making one of the side extra thick and the others could be slimmer

Thinking about getting this for college would it be good? Only need it for that and to Handel Roblox can anyone tell me
I want one of these.
I think they are available in Taiwan or other Asian country??

This reminds me of my old Surface 3 (non pro). Good tablet at the time but did not age well. This tablet should not be more than $349 MSRP at launch.
is the stylus have different levels of pressure ? like a graphic tablet
Does it have HEVC HW decode?
Dem Bezels tho!
Si this the CM3001 announced in Nov?

2015 is it. They want its design back. 😅
bezels are too thick for me. Also not a mediatek fan after the gen 1 lenovo duet and the Helios P90t. Skip
The bezels are huge, like what is this? 2012? C'mon Asus, they could've put more effort in the display design.
My 2018 Dell Latitude 5290 2 in 1 has more or less the same bezzles and it's kinda fun
😭😭😭 are we ever going to get a new x86 detachable?
The bezel of this one is unacceptable, its 2024 not 2014 already!
That will need to be sub $300 to be attractive. But, even then, doesn't look like a Duet killer.
Do people really use their laptop / tablet speakers when there are bluetooth or wired headphones that sound awesome and disturb no one?

Much bigger bezels to the Duet 3 :(
Your reviews are 1st rate. Very pleasant presentation.
I use Amazon Tablets just for streaming..HD8 and HD10 when in bed.Is this Chrome a better replacement?
should i buy the duet 5 in 2024? i dont know if they will release a new one this year
Great to see it's 8GB. Hated how the Duet 3 was 4GB only and then months later the 8GB model came. Cheeky business practice.
Dear Asus........stop being soooooooo cheap.......it only costs a cpl $ to make the keyboard backlit and a cpl magnets to lift the keyboard a lil
Design looks like a Surface 8 pro, but i liked it.. looking forward for Europe to get it :D
Looks like some UK B2B suppliers have this in stock now.
5mp cameras?? Is this 2010??
2024, still selling 128gb storage without SD card slot...
It has one its just covered like cellphones
5:11 wow those bezels are huge! 🤢 What is this 2013!? This instantly kills it for me.
The iPad 1.

A lil bit of a bummer pricing info isn't out yet even in FEB..
Bugs they do fix, but price 300 is correct. But I will bet my car it will be more than that for what the amenities are.

It seems like a nice device but didn't blow me away. I feel like Robby thinks this also. lol
Why did they use the Kompanio? It's not a great chip!
It looks like the options screen from a commercial printer.
From what ice seen the chrome tablets. Are just not thier yet
