2 things really played an impact on Lindros. 1) When his brother's career was ended by concussions. Lindros played so differently after that. 2) And of course this hit as you mentioned.
Even with those debilitating concussions that Lindros suffered, he was twice the player that Stevens was when healthy. And *anyone* who say’s & or think’s any differently in that regard, is a certified numbskull.

@Puckman637 Stevens was better in that era than Lindros? In what aspect? In the couple of times when they dropped the gloves in this video, who looked like they usually got the better of who? You've got one player who is scoring goals and the other is trying to take them out heading into the boards after the puck is already in the back of the net. That just comes off as jealous or bitter or a cheapshot artist. If someone is trying to be an agitator and get him off his game, being 6'4", do you think the team is going to send a goon after them, he had to fight his own battles. He wasn't someone who was just going to skate around headbutting random people either, everybody wanted to poke the bear. He should have had a *prime* enforcer instead of leaving everything for Lindros to do. Bud, those were clean hits back in the day. Can't take it out of context. Get off your high horse anyway, who the hell doesn't like big hits? Lindros your kid or something?
In the 2001 Finals, karma really bit Stevens. As if it were a sign of how that game would end, Mr. Cheap Shot went to deliver a hit on Rob Blake, only to have Blake send HIM flying to the ice! As a Rangers fan, that was a sweet as it got in those days! I remember Lindros's first game as a Ranger against NJ - that was the night I became a fan of his, when, late in the game, he and Stevens were driving near the boards and Lindros nailed him into the boards with a hard hit! His first bit of payback for that cheap hit that effectively ended his career in Philly.

Bad blood gets to the point where Stevens just decides to end Lindros' career. If Lindros had let him win a couple fights, he might not have done this....then again, what did Kariya or Ron Francis ever do to Stevens...
Charlie Kozlov too in '95 I think. Kozlov came back from it and won two Cups. I guess getting blindsided by Stevens was nothing compared to the horrific automobile crash he had also survived.
1:27 Stevens gives Lindros a cheap shot after Lindros scores. That's what made Stevens a POS hockey player. He reminds me of Bill Laimbeer of the Pistons in the way he plays the game.

Also, to those people who think Stevens was a dirty player....Gordie Howe ( MR. Hockey ) was the DIRTIEST player that ever played the game!!
Stevens could never handle talented players when he “played” so had to resort to elbows to the head. A shame to see a guy who couldn’t skate, fight, or do anything with the puck, ruin careers with head shots. Lindros definitely wasn’t a saint but Stevens was just a cheap shot artist.
I was never a Lindros fan, but absolutely despise Stevens......so it's nice to see Lindros destroy him in a one on one fight. Stevens was one of the dirtiest players in NHL.
Ulf Samuelsson sticks his knee into Cam Neely’s thigh and everyone calls it a cheap shot. Scott Stevens sticks his shoulder into Eric Lindros’ head and people celebrate and say that’s hockey Eric shouldn’t have had his head down. It’s high level hypocrisy at its worst. Stevens was dirtier than Samuelsson.
I agree if this hit happened today it’s easily 5 games for a first time offender. Scott Stevens playing today would have a far worse reputation than a Tom Wilson currently does. Different era for sure but Stevens was praised and made a career out of dirty hits deemed in today’s nhl!!!
Lol...but the headbutt was within the rules right? Eric cheated as well. Funnier when the bigger guys do it and then bitch when it occurs to them...lmmfao!
I have little to no sympathy for how Lindros had to retire or how his career was ended rather short.... He was a victim of his own creation in a way. Tried to be a bully so players targeted him right back. He did lots of dirty shit himself in his career. I loved this time and era in hockey. It’s kinda all speed and talent in today’s game.

No doubt about it, Stevens was a pos, but an effective one. A bunch of late hits and high ones, BUT at the time those where hockey plays. Nobody cared about the effects it had on players, and I'm pretty sure not that many knew how dangerous they were. Lindros got a lot of shit for being soft when refused to play for having head aches. Thank god the game has changed since then. There's a player here in sweden who hits pretty good. He says that he wants to hurt other players but not wound them. I think that's a good attitude to the game.
Lindros beat his azz so many times I can kind of understand why Stevens cheap shorted him every single chance he got. As an enforcer you're supposed to win these battles but Stevens lost every single time unless he cheap shorted him or tried to kill him. I'm happy lindros destroyed him, Stevens is a coward, sad it would've been better if Stevens got his brain smashed so many times he couldn't play instead of the opposite.
People love to hate on Scott Stevens for beating up and stifling their players and teams and being the main reason their teams didn’t win a Stanley Cup but never mention or appreciate that he was under the tutelage of Larry Robinson the Montreal great defenseman in the 70s and 80s who helped the Canadiens win like 6 to 8 Cups back then and Larry is the one who made Stevens great and brought the discipline out of him cause before that Stevens was a hot head loose cannon head with no real goal or direction just hitting bodies left and right 😂
Lindros was a douchebag, but Stevens was mean, he meant to go out there and hurt you the same way Denis Potvin did and this is coming from an old Islander fan.

Basically Stevens gets ragdolled by Lindros unless he catches Lindros with his head down. Straight up, man to man he gets pummeled.

Puckman637 played it better doesn’t mean playing it cheap
Also in that "era" between the 2, one of them hovered around 4th all time in points per game and the other not so much, i'll give you 2 guesses who and the first one doesn't count.
The sad thing is his team didn't get Stevens for the hit. They were the broad street ladies when Lindros played there
I totally agree. Bob Clarke did nothing to help him from taking any shots. There was no retaliation for it
They had a bunch of tough dudes who finished fights rather than start them. The only instigator they had, ironically, was Snow. And he wasn’t about to start nothin with Stevens.
It’s cause Lindros was a dick.
He should have had a *prime* enforcer instead of leaving everything for Lindros to do. Yeah Kevin Dineen and others were tough players in their own right, but always seemed to be on the downslide when they were sent to the Flyers. I'm not a big Philly fan, just watched a lot of their games during this period and I would have done it a bit different if I was Clarke...

Stevens is a joke compared to Lindros
People love to hate on Scott Stevens for beating up and stifling their players and teams and being the main reason their teams didn’t win a Stanley Cup but never mention or appreciate that he was under the tutelage of Larry Robinson the Montreal great defenseman in the 70s and 80s who helped the Canadiens win like 6 to 8 Cups back then and Larry is the one who made Stevens great and brought the discipline out of him cause before that Stevens was a hot head loose cannon head with no real goal or direction just hitting bodies left and right 😂
