      Arquette protested, but Russo was adamant for him to win the title. After that Russo denied he had anything to do with it, then after he thought it died down, he indirectly admitted it was his idea about getting as much attention as possible and claimed success. What a dummy.

      christian winning the whc by dq is one of my favourite moments in 'modern' wwe. i love how you can see a point in the match where he realises he's out of his depth, so just starts being a shit to push orton over the edge. it was brilliant and unexpected.

    Considering the importance and history of the title HHH being handed the title might be the worst.
    David Arquette didn’t want to win the championship and didn’t even really want to get involved in matches but was contractually obligated to listen to WCW.
    We all know that HHH’s pull backstage helped him get the title.
    Of all of his title reigns this one is an absolute joke.

    • @Lakeshow11
      @Lakeshow11 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If there’s history to the title, then arquette is the worst for being a non-wrestler and pinning someone who isn’t a full time wrestler.

    • @user-kq7rf6uq4m
      @user-kq7rf6uq4m ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Lakeshow11 difference being tights Arquette didn’t want to do it, the reign lasted a really short period of time and even WCW didn’t take it seriously. The entire company was a joke at that point. HHH was presented as legitimately being the single greatest performer in the industry but was just handed the belt.
      Don’t get me wrong, everything with Arquette is ridiculous, but WCW pretty much acknowledged it as being ridiculous.
      Either way, tomato or tomato they both hurt the credibility of the titles.

      @@TheCCNetworkThis actually started in 2001, with wcw folding there was no company to dog on anymore, so as soon as wwe did something imperfect (the invasion) horrible people started asserting ownership over how we're allowed to talk about wrestling, and when wwe didn't bow to their negativity, they just went after more of it. These weirdos man, I'm telling ya. They eventually made their way to triple h and stuck their claws in hard. They're all very jealous that a man called Vince McMahon exists and produces a show they would like to produce. When Triple H was warned about dating Steph, they implicitly had the locker room in mind. They never expected there to be a large portion of fans who would act more betrayed than any actual co workers that were betrayed, but here we are. To be fair with Triple H being handled the belt, this was after summerslam where Brock won the belt. He was planning in defending it on both shows ubtil he made a deal with Stephanie to where he was only going defend it on Smackdown. Triple H was the number 1 contender at the time, so it made sense for Hunter to be given the belt since the Raw brand had none.

    Fun fact: Randy Orton competed in 2 championship matches with the stipulation in place that if the champ was disqualified, the opponent becomes the new champion. Two matches of that type that come to mind are the WWE Title match at Survivor Series 2007 between champion Randy Orton & Shawn Michaels(during Randy Orton's 2nd & LONGEST WWE Title run dubbed "The Age Of Orton") & the other being the WWE Title Main Event at Wrestlemania 25 between champion Triple H & Randy Orton. Randy Orton vs Christian at Money In The Bank 2011 was the third time that Randy Orton competed in a championship match with that stipulation, with the only difference being that it was for the World Heavyweight Championship instead of the WWE Title & the second time in which Randy competed as the defending champion.

    The most messed up thing about Arquette winning the title off of DDP is that Jarrett had just lost it to DDP... ONE DAY EARLIER. Arquette taking the belt off Jarrett could have actually made some sort of sense storyline wise since Russo had Jarrett win it back 12 days later but Russo couldnt book 24 hours into the future. Absolutely Unbelievable.

    TBF, Buddy Rogers was the NWA Champuion whilst signed with Vince SR up North when Rogers lost the title to Lou Thesz after just 1 fall in what was understood to be 2/3 falls so as a result, the WWWF left the NWA to establish its own territory led by Vince McMahon Sr & The Gold Dust Trio. All they did was not recognise Thesz's NWA Title win and kept Rogers as World Champion in their own Territory.
    The fictional tournament was simply a quick fix (no pun intended) as to explain how he became Champion without mentioning the NWA, Thesz or the match & title change that McMahon SR did not recognise.

    I remember when Mideon (not yet Naked Mideon) walked to the ring with a graphic saying he was the European Champion and thinking “When and how the hell did that happen?” Just claiming it from someone’s bag was a measure of the prestige of that belt back then I guess - even AEW’s FTW belt held by Hook has more credibility than that…..

    Have to admit, I don’t think the TNA Knockouts idea was a million miles off the mark of being something pretty cool.
    I like the idea being something like a Fatal 4 Way, and every time there’s a Pinfall/Submission, someone gets a chance to open 1 of X amount of mystery boxes.
    Keep going until someone wins the title. All other boxes can just be empty.
