I spoke to a 21 year old who was addicted to crack, and his friend came soon who he was waiting for and that friend was addicted to fentanyl. They lost a friend the day prior to me meeting them... overdose.
I spoke with them for 45 minutes and I sense that I had a profound impact on them, even though I myself am an alcoholic and on the verge of homelessness. I've been on that verge for months now. Being Canadian is NOT fun anymore...

There is a strong temptation to just stay home, I personally barely ever leave. Just to go out for booze and food, that's just about it. I work from home online. My 'daily commune' to 'work' is trudging in the morning from where I sleep to where my computer is.
But almost every time I leave home, I find an opportunity to try a conversation with someone, and it is common for it to go on for a half-hour or up to two hours.
Frankly, I am unkempt, I LOOK homeless even though I am not homeless even though I HAVE been homeless in the past, but people shake my hand and smile and thank me.
There is an epidemic of loneliness, I see the struggle on people's faces and they light up just for someone giving the time of day to LISTEN and to reply thoughtfully and honestly.
