Who doesn't love a good BEFORE and AFTER, especially when the before is PAINTED & PAPERED!
Don't forget to watch until the very end for the reveal of some very GORGEOUS, walnut woodgrain that had been suffocating under all that grey paint! A true mid century classic is revealed !

You must be biased! 🤣🤣🤣
All those people out there fascinated with chalk paint saying "what's the big deal... you can always just take the paint off if you don't like it..." have never sat with a dental pick pulling paint out of wood grain at ten o'clock at night...
This is beautiful. I am so happy you saved it. It's not just a lovely piece, it is so much more than pretty when it's saved from a landfill ❤
Thank you! I am more of a "6am" tedious task person!🤣
Me more 4 o*clock in the Morning, usind needles in the wood Pores!😂
If you must chalk paint, please spray a coat of shellac first…😮
Your restoration is beautiful. I especially appreciate that you include the restoration/refreshing of the back, bottom, and inside of the piece.
Thanks, I sometimes leave the back "as is" if it has a maker's mark on back. At the very least I will oil the dried out wood.
Just subscribed, we have a lot of mcm furniture is the surfpreps much better than a normal orbital. Great show thanx
@@BGCB261 Thanks for Subscribing! The surf prep is really great for getting into tight spots, and for anything rounded as well. But I used (and still do) a regular 'ol orbital sander all the time!
Great save! Beauteous!!!
A great restore...I love the fact that you didn't tone the handles and base. The contrasting wood tones makes the piece seem more modern while keeping its character intact. The matching grain on the door panels is especially nice.
Your father-in-law must really love it!
Thanks, it’s always the little decisions that bring a vintage piece back to modern day while still retaining its original charm. Thanks for noticing! 🙂
Stunning! You do beautiful work.
Thanks! Believe it or not I find it very relaxing!
Love a side of the road rescue! Like a sad puppy!
😂
Painting wood grey has been a fad since COVID. It's already dated, so it's lovely to see you bring the natural wood beauty back! 💕
covid grey. it's gotta have a Pantone number. lol
I am old enough to know that is was also a fad in the early 80's. I bought a house from then that was covered in pink and grey!😩
@@more5347 I worked in graphic design for years so your reference hit home!🤣🤣🤣
It’s stunning! I’m so glad that you stained it, rather than natural or the new “white washed” look.
Thanks, I love walnut too much to white wash it!
White wash is just another trend that dates things…
You restored her Beauty! What a phenomenal job!!!!
Thanks!
This is one gorgeous piece of furniture! You did a fantastic job on it!
Haddon Hall made some great mcm pieces. I've refinished quite a few. Thanks!
Lucky father in law! Looks so beautiful, now!
It fit his apartment wall perfectly!
Great job of not neglecting the back and bottom👍🏻
thanks!
YES!!!! Thank you for rescuing that poor piece and actually restoring its true splendor! I immediately subbed! You remind me much of Angie from Transcend Furniture Gallery. You show how much you love the piece through the careful details, just as Angie does. Thanks again. 😊
Thanks for appreciating a good piece of furniture! And thanks for comparing me to Transcend Furniture Gallery, I love her work! Refinishing is a Process and if you don't have the patience for it, it usually shows!
The inside of the doors hinted at beauty, but WOW! I really like the stain you used on this piece, because it really brings out that gorgeous wood grain.
Thanks, I thought so too, General Finishes "Nutmeg" never disappoints!
“ It was a real buggar to sand……..” CDN eh! You did an amazing job!
Ha! I debated taking that out! Thanks for the kind words!
Wowwww…. You have commendable patience. What a beautiful thorough job. It turned out glorious.
Thank you 🙂
Супер классная реставрация.Вы чудесный рестовратор.Получилась прекрасная вещь
Просто восхитительна работа
Thank You!
Wow! Laurie! What an outstanding transformation! Beautiful!
I think you are a little biased! But thank you! 😂😂😂
That looks great! And with those chairs!! Wow, awesome job.
My father-in-law was downsizing to a much smaller place so having a small buffet to go with his existing furniture was important. I think it worked out wonderfully!
Who in their right mind paints over wood grain that beautiful??!! Bless you for restoring her! Howdy from a new subscriber in Texas! 🤠🤠
Greetings for Ajax, Ontario! Thanks for subscribing!
Very lovely wood. Good restoration.
Walnut is a favourite of mine....and thanks!
Meticulous work. Very nice. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the kind words!
You deserve it. It's nice to see really good work and learn something in the process and that's exactly what you are doing.@@mcmredo
Very cool to see you sharing your knowledge.
Thanks!
Absolutely beautiful meticulous work. My heart is happy that you were able to gift 🎁 to your Dad. ❤
Thanks!
OMG! What a transformation! Talk about a Cinderella story. :-)
Ha! Or Ugly Duckling!
Love it Laur!
Thanks!
What a very lucky Buffet! Poor thing… if it had feelings it would have jumped with joy from getting that paint off! That was a lot of work you did and what a beautiful result. Must have invested a ton of time into this piece! But wow what wonderful result!
Thanks, it was a ton of work but well worth it and I tackled a little bit at a time...so not so bad! 😂
Wow,that’s the most stunning transformation I’ve seen. Thank you for sharing, amazing work
Thanks, it was definitely a challenge!
I cant imagine this piece looking any better even when brand new. Beautiful restoration!
I was trying to get it back to its original state. I think on the original the legs would have been toned to match the rest but I liked the difference!
Very beautiful. I’m glad you decided to save this piece. 👍🏼
Thanks!
Who on earth would cover up that stunning grain, with paint??? I honestly thank you, for putting in the effort to bring this piece back to its true glory.
Thank you very much 😀
The whole chalk paint and faux paint techniques that folks did thinking they could flip it. I am so happy to see the beautiful wood grain! Thank you
Absolutely beautiful, yep they take ALOT OF WORK, but definitely worth it.
Thanks 🙏
Wow stunning ❤
It even surprised me!
Just gorgeous transformation. I appreciate you doing all the extra work. Great job!
Thanks! 😊
Lucky Father in law !
Lovely finish. Can you imagine putting "faux marble " mactac on this beautiful piece? Oh well..gone with the grey paint and now look at it 😍
Oh my. It's absolutely gorgeous.
I thought so too! 😄
Fantastic. Thank you for sharing this video. I am also very happy that you didn’t chalk paint this piece.
I could never cover up nice walnut grain! It would have to be in pretty bad "unrecoverable" shape for me to paint it.😊
Better than new.
I really enjoyed watching the process and it turned out gorgeous! I also like your voiceover! Thanks for sharing this!
Thanks! The voiceover was the hardest part, I am so "not used-to" speaking on video!
🤩🤩
Man, another gorgeous piece. I really can’t wait for your next project… thanks for sharing your work!!!
Thanks, I will be putting up another trash to treasure video next week of a teak desk! Stay tuned !
This is such a fantastic piece. I got a bit giddy when I saw those drawer handes covered in paint. You brought it back to beautiful!!! ❤❤❤
Thanks! I am glad I was able to rescue it!
Wow, it lasted three days and nobody else wanted it?? Lovely salvage job.
I know...weird huh? Thanks.
wow such patience and care a truly wonderful restoration😊
Thank you!😊
That came up so beautifully 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 v glad u saved it!
So am I! Thanks.😆
A lovely transformation ~ you have skill and patience and produced a really absorbing vid! 👌
Thanks. Part of what I love about refinishing furniture is the time I have with each piece. It's not like most our lives, rush, rush rush!
That is absolutely gorgeous. Great job. Why would anyone paint over that.
I am thinking they seriously liked the colour GREY! 🤣
What a beautiful restoration, I liked your choice of music also!😊
Thanks for the kind words!
Very nice. Lots of hard work to make this beautiful again.
Thanks, it's not hard work when you love what you are doing!😂
Such a beautiful restoration and explanation of the process. Thx for sharing. 😊
My pleasure 😊
Hi,
You're doing God's work rescuing this piece. Really really nice job. It looks terrific! Helpful hint if you put a piece of painters tape over the missing veneer then trace the shape it will give you a near perfect template.
Thanks
Thanks! And that's a great tip, I used the painters tape as a template many times!
You did a fantastic job restoring this piece of furniture! I can’t believe someone painted it and stuck paper on the beautiful wood. I absolutely love that you finished the back as it really compliments the way you finished it. Wow you did such a good thing! Thank you for sharing your work.
Thank-you, I was kinda glad they did cover the top in sticky paper, it helped with keeping water rings off the finish! 🤣
Wow! When you coming to do my table?!🤗🙏🏻
Ha! Why do you live so far?!
People love that gray and marble 😂😂 thank you for bringing back this piece's beauty.
On the plus side it helped save the wood underneath it!
This turned out gorgeous!!!! I LOVE IT!!
Thanks 🙏
Stunning! I think I'm drooling...
Thanks! 😊
A beautiful piece of furniture. You did a wonderful job 😊
Thanks🤩
It's absolutely stunning!
I think it's ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! You did amazing prep work! It would have been such a shame to have this piece send to the garbage... So good you saved it! Thanks so much for sharing. I just subscribed. Watching from Greece
Thanks for subscribing!
That looks really beautiful after all your work.

Amazing job well done you!! you should be proud of your self it's tured out stunning!!
Thanks! I had my doubts at the beginning but I pretty much knew it was going to be a stunner after I scraped off the paint!
Gorgeous redo! Just found you and subscribed!
Thanks! I am brand new to "This TH-cam thing" so bear with me! I have been into furniture restoration/refinishing for years tho!
Mid century is very popular, that pieces only risk to refinish was what was under the paint. One layer and with minor imperfections it turned out great. Something like that does not usually sit on the tree lawn for more than an hour. Free makes it worth the effort particularly for what is a popular style today. Haden Hall on the lawn is not something to walk by, that piece sells for close to a grand as it is a highly desirable mid century name of vintage Danish Modern.
I agree, it doesn’t usually stay at the curb for long. But I think most people just couldn’t see past the paint!
Так приятно, что есть возможность снова увидеть прекрасный со вкусом подобранный шпон и возвращение этой консоли МСМ к новой и долгой жизни. И такая кропотливая и тщательная работа восхищает.
Thank-you, I just read your comment via Google Translate! 😃
Watching from Belgium ❤️ this, it's so beautifull now
I am new to recording my work so thanks for the kind words!
@@mcmredo i like the way you're doing this, i have seen other channels, i love wood color, understand that some need to ben painted, in Europa less furniture painting, white wash sometimes
Hi there, new to your channel, watching from Ontario, Canada. Wow, what a transformation, I'm glad you rescued it from the side of the road, it turned out beautiful...Take care...cheers !!!
Cheers from Ajax! Thanks for watching, my next video should be out this Wednesday....I tackle a mcm teak desk! It's a good one!
@@mcmredo Looking forward to it. I didn't know you're Canadian, I'm from Mattawa, small town east of North Bay...
Enjoyed your work very much hope you keep posting ❤❤
Thanks, When you work alone in a garage or basement you literally don't think anyone has a remote interest in what you are doing so it's nice to hear people enjoy watching!
Fabulous!
Thanks 😃
