You can add diced potatoes to sub for the lack of split peas. And, yes, pea soup does get quite thick after a while. I use chicken broth in place of the water. Love your earrings 🥰❄☃💗✝🌞
I just made a pea soup exactly the same way, only I had a pound of split peas. Jennifer you need to get a stove top diffuser, you put it under the pot and it helps regulate the heat, I have electric but my neighbor has a gas stove and neither one of us could live without it, you put the heat at a low setting and it helps keep it low so you can simmer all day, another option that is helpful is to put on a smaller burner, with or without a difffuser. I love them so much I have 2. They are also known as a simmermat,
Pea soup makes my ❤ so happy. I grew up in SW MN and my mom made it a lot when I was growing up. I usually make it once a year now and share with my in-laws but my hubby won’t touch it.
I have found that if you use a defuser on a gas stove top, it helps with dispersing the heat. This helps with simmering. This is what I use. Cast Iron Heat Diffuser for Gas Stove - 2 Sizes Included - 8.25 and 6.75 Inch Heat Diffusers for Electric Stove - Gas Heat Plate - Cast Iron Simmer Plate for Gas Burners, it can be found on Amazon. Also if you have a cast iron pan larger than the pot that also works.

Hi Jennifer... I never thought about using just a 1/2 bag of dried split peas for the soup... It makes sense in the consistency difference. Also, just an opinion... if you had wanted to add the red lentils to make up for the other missing peas... they would have worked fine. They're all related... and none of them have a really strong flavor profile. Usually they just take on whatever you are cooking them with. Wonderful video in spite of whatever glitches you think you may have encountered. It helps to keep it real. Great job! Hugs, Penny Sue

We always processed our own game and years ago wrapped everything in butcher paper. Now we freeze back strap and round steak in food saver. Using the LEM bags for ground venison this year, saved so much time and didn't take as much room in the freezers.

A read that a chefs 2 favorite tools are chef’s knife and tongs as they are multipurpose. I can get cranky in the kitchen when my husband starts dirtying up extra knives etc, lol.

My gas stove is like that as well. I can turn it to 2 and it still simmers a little hotter than I want. I discovered pushing the pot over to one side or the other more can help with that.

I add lots of carrot and celery and onion like 2 cups of each to my pea soup and it bulks it up and is so very good.

My gas stove is like that as well. I can turn it to 2 and it still simmers a little hotter than I want. I discovered pushing the pot over to one side or the other more can help with that.

I think the lentils would be just good as split pea soup. I have used them in soups many times. It's delicious.
My gram taught me to use marjoram in pea and bean soups. If you don't care for thyme, try marjoram next time.
